Today I felt like putting the lovely LORAC Silver Screen palette to work, specifically the warm eyeshadows from the first row, the matte rose blush and the Lip Polish, and I even followed the convenient tutorial on the back of the box (with some minor adjustments for added punch). 🙂
To the recipe on the back, I added a base of MAC Paint Pot in Painterly beneath the shadows and black liquid liner on my upper lash line.
A few things about the warm shadows…
- All four contain a whisper of shimmer; it was actually subtler than I expected
- No. 3, the warmest of the bunch, shimmers in brown with strong orange undertones
- The rest of the shadows (1, 2 and 4) kinda lean toward neutral
I’m mostly happy with the way the look turned out, but I think I could’ve done a better job blending the darkest brown… Something to work on next time.
Whaddaya think of the palette?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Time for a late lunch. I’m craving PB&J, BIG TIME! 🙂
cady says
i like it!! its very natural but very pretty too. it seems to suit your skin tone really well!
Karen says
Hi Cady,
Thanks! Are you more of a subtle shimmer kinda girl? Or do you like lots of bling?
Patty says
You are having an awesome hair day, Karen! Work it outttt! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Patty,
LOL, those good hair days come by so rarely these days.

Hi Shy,
What’s going on? Anything new to report on this lovely Monday?
amy says
This looks very soft and pretty. Perfect for everyday because the shimmer is so subtle. Would this be your new staple day look? I like your hair today btw, the waves and volume are working for you.

What foundation are you using because your skin looks amazing! And that wavy hair… I’m so jealous!
Karen says
Hi Angela,
That’s Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation with MAC Select Sheer Loose power applied with a puff. This combo covers EVERYTHING and photographs really well.

Ooh, this is a good look for you! Actually…I think it’s my favorite look for you that you’ve done so far!

How are you? Is the new kitty adjusting well?
Patti says
The colors look really nice, I think it is something I can wear everyday. Unfortunately, I already spent way too much money and with Christmas coming up I definitely need to start saving!!
Karen says
Hi Patti,
Yeah, I hear ya. That reminds me, I need to start hounding my family for their wish lists!
Tatiana says
Hey Karen! It’s my first comment here, but I’ve been lurking around your blog for some time now, and I love it 🙂 Just felt like telling you that that color palette really suits your skin tone and looks really good on you 🙂 I think it might be my favorite look face you’ve done!
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
It’s nice to meet you!
Are you new to makeup or are you already addicted? 🙂
mishel says
karen! u look gorgeous in these pics =)
Karen says
Hi Mishel,
What’s going on, girl? Are you having a good Tuesday so far?
Megan **** says
The look came out great! It really does give your face a “warm look” 🙂 Blending dark shadows can sometimes be tricky; it will look a lot more blended in front of the bathroom mirror than it looks in photography.. Occasionally a problem for me when it comes to dark colors.. Hmph! 🙁
Overall, did you enjoy your Monday? Did you take that trip to Sephora after all? (Saw that tweet you posted this afternoon..) Btw – I need to go take care of business there asap! (AKA, spend the MAC & Sephora giftcards I got for my 20th Bday last Tuesday! My mama & sister know exactly what I like! Ha!) Isnt it so much more fun to spend somebody else’s hard earned money on pricey cosmetics? Haha! Have a goodnight & I hope your Tuesday goes smoooothly tomorrow.
Karen says
Hi Megan ****,
Lucky girl! I will be with you in spirit when you break into your gift cards. 🙂
I didn’t end up going yesterday. I figured I needed to work out more (ugh) so I did some cardio and about a billion situps.
How’s your day going so far?
christina says
karen! your blog tempts me too much!!! 🙂
anyway, i always LOOOOVE the way your hair looks!
can you show us how you style it everyday?
because i have naturally wavy-ish hair so i have been perming it for the last 4 years or so but my hair is getting really damaged so after this perm fades, i want to live with my natural hair!
thank you soo much!!!
Karen says
Hi Christina and Inday,
Honestly it usually looks like a bird’s next; yesterday was one of those rare exceptions. I curled sections with a large barrel curling iron, let the curls cool, and then worked some styling product through it to smooth out the frizzies (this stuff by wella… review coming soon!).
Another thing could you try is doing a loose French braid at night before bed. Rub some styling product in (like a gel), do a loose braid and then go to sleep. In the morning you’ll have loose waves!

but what really caught my eye is your hair! gurrrrrrrl, hella gorge!! i’ve been having hair issues lately (fighting with my naturally curly texture – boo!) and would truly appreciate some tips on how to get the lovely look you are rockin’ today.
thank you for always making me smile!

Wow Karen, that’s one of your best looks yet!
Please don’t take this the wrong way because you always look pretty, but I think that first shade is a much more flattering brow highlighter on you. I know that’s totally a matter of personal preference though 😀
You did a fantastic job blending that dark color btw, so I’m not sure what that crazy talk was all about! heh he
Loving that lip color too. I bet this set would look like crap on a ghostly pale girl like me though. Guess I will keep playing with my Tarte Treasure Chest (and am eagerly awaiting my Coastal Scents 88 palette!). You’ve turned me into an eyeshadow wearer LOL
Have a good evening all!
Anastasia.
Tatiana says
I’m already addicted Karen! hahaha 😛
christina says
thanks for the tips!
and i never think your hair looks like a bird’s nest!
i always love the way it looks! <3
Karen says
Hi Christina,
LOL, I dunno… if you saw it IRL you’d probably change your tune. It can get pretty out of control sometimes. 🙂
Sarah says
Hey, Just wanted to say that based simply on this FOTD, I went out and bought the palette yesterday! I just finished trying it for the first time (I’m glad you had a photo of the back – I left the box at home) and I love it!
I used the pink blush and it worked well (I’m extremely pale with cool skintone). The dark color is definitely harder to blend but it was relatively easy to do even though I’m actually sitting at my desk (thank god for tall cubicle walls)! It only took a couple minutes and it was way easier to quickly shove back into my purse when I finished versus putting numerous pans away.

absolutely love ur long hair in this pic! wish I had that kinda hair 🙂
