From Runway to Realway: Red Hot Lips and Shimmery Teal Eyes
Thu, 09/17/2009 by Karen | Posted in: Face of the Day (FOTD)

New York Fashion Week is just about over, but I’m not ready to let go quite yet.
Today I had some time during my lunch break to play, so I tried to re-create the makeup from last week’s Agent Provocateur runway show.
Inspired by a 70s fetish club, this sultry look features red lips and teal eyes. MEOW!

I’d never think to pair these colors together, but this look turned out surprisingly wearable. I might actually rock this someplace other than my living room, ha!
If ya want a tutorial, gimme a holler in the comments.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That looks great! Could you do a tutorial on smokey eyes (and variations like this teal one) if you haven’t already? That would be lovely.

That’s an awesome look Karen. I’ve been trying to pair unexpected combos of eyes and lips. It keeps it interesting. Why should there really be boundaries as long as it’s well done?
9. Kate & Zena said, on September 17th, 2009:
Oh, this is stunning! Yes, Kate would love a tutorial.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I do have a HiP liner in teal that I could…
Did you get my link, by any chance? It’s an idea page for your living room that I did for you based off that picture you linked me to. My internet has been on ze fritz. It’s driving me batty!
Zena decided she was a cheetah today on her walk and practically dragged me on the route. I swear that dog is going to be the end of my feet.

I am not sure if I can rock the teal and red together like you do, but I think I would try a indigo eye and red lip or maybe violet or hot pink lip.

Karen, that looks great! I never would have thought to try that color combo. I would love to know what products you used. I have been looking into getting some teal colored eye shadow and I have been on the lookout for the perfect red lipstick.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Toni,
Happy Friday!
I ended up using a bunch of MAC. Some of it is limited edition (boo!), but I’ll find equivalent colors from the permanent line for ya.
Do you ever do any unexpected color combos? This is my first venture, and so far I’m really liking it!
19. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Tavia,
Before going to bed, I put in some leave-in conditioner and then braided my hair into a thick, loose braid. In the morning I took the braid out and then curled the bangs and the front pieces with a large-barreled curling iron. After letting the hair cool for about 20 minutes, I ran my fingers through the curls to break them up and then sprayed them with flexible hairspray to set. That’s it!
20. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Vonvon,
Yay, another teal girl! What are your favorite teal shadows? Do you have a cream one you can recommend? I’m still on the hunt…
21. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Sandra,
Thank you! And happy Friday, WOOT!
22. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Dimpy,
LOL, I wish it was some sort of magical youth-inducing fruit, but alas, it’s just concealer. It helps a lot!
As for the violet lips, here’s the tutorial on how to get a similar look.
23. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Blovet Beauty,
Happy Friday! Are you a fan of red lips, too?
24. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Amy,
Aww, you gotta try it at least once! Just rock it in your living room and then see how you feel.
BTW, I’m loving the idea of a violet eye and hot pink matte lip. Must try that ASAP!
Got any plans for the weekend?
25. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Hafsa,
Thanks babe!
Have you been wearing your new blush this week?
26. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Kate & Zena,
Zena is a pup with many sides. At least she gives you a workout, right?
Okay, I am either blind or a little bit crazy from the lack of sleep, but I can’t seem to find the link you sent!! I would love to see it.
How is school going? Do you have a lot of studying to do this weekend?
27. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Shontay,
Thanks! These unexpected combos are kinda fun. What lip/eye shades have you been pairing together?
Happy Friday, btw!
28. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Pinksoysauce,
Yup yup! I’ll try to knock one out in the next few days.

How’s your Friday going?
33. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Maggie,
I used a mix of MAC permanent and LE products. I’ll list ‘em all soon!
How is your Friday going so far?
34. Karen said, on September 18th, 2009:
Hi Meaghan,
Thanks hon!
How are things on your end? Got any plans for the weekend?

36. Michelle said, on September 18th, 2009:
Love the teal eyes! So hot. I bought some teal pigment, it is sitting in my drawer — I have been to afraid to wear it LOL I need to break it out because I love that look!
37. Jenna said, on September 18th, 2009:
That looks great, I’d love to see a tutorial!!! I think the looks would be completely identical if you added in fake eyelashes and some black eyeliner, but I also love it the way you did it!

Karen, I haven’t done any unexpected color combos in a long time. I really want to do some of the trendy stuff without looking like I am trying to hard to regain my youth! LOL! I just stopped by Ulta today and picked up 2 shadows by NYX in Pacific and Lime Green. Since they are on sale, I might stop in again and look for a teal colored one.
Thanks for all you do and have a fabulous weekend!

You look fierce with that look! You should definitely wear it somewhere other than your living room, LOL! Personally I think it’d look a little bit better with some black liquid liner, but it’s damn near close to perfection as it is
And yes, I would love a tutorial!

Hi Lina,
Thanks hon!
50. Karen said, on September 19th, 2009:
Hi Toni,
I hear ya. I have that issue often — especially when it comes to clothes. I need to really stop shopping in the juniors section, LOL!
Pacific and Lime Green sound so pretty! Hmm, maybe do a conservative slice of either color on the lid and then add some thick liner? That might look sassy without being too Hot Topic.
51. Karen said, on September 19th, 2009:
Hi Jenna,
I’ll add those in when I do the tut!
52. Vonvon said, on September 20th, 2009:
Hi Karen,
Well, I don’t really have a fav teal shadow. I just love the color and everything in that color would appeal to me.
How about the Estee Lauder Double Wear ShadowCreme in Sea Mist? How’s that?
