Oh, for the love of Frodo, thank the Lord of the Rings for Chanel!
Coco was exactly what I needed today to change my point of view.
Despite my best efforts to auto-correct, all week long I felt disheveled, disorganized and undisciplined (company visiting from out of town plus the trip last weekend = completely overwhelmed). I think I’m finally getting my sh*t together again, thanks in no small part to Chanel.
This morning I took Coco’s Holiday 2011 collection out for a spin, and where did we go?
Here’s a hint: it’s where Mango Bars and Baked Cheese Crunchies come from. 🙂 Some folks call it Trader Joe’s.
Help yourself
One of the three holiday tutorials up now on Chanel’s website inspired me, but since I didn’t have Ligne Extreme in Or (the liquid golden eyeliner) or the Poudre Universelle Libre setting powder, I improvised with some of the other pieces from the holiday collection and incorporated a couple of other things from MAC and NARS.
Eyes
- NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (primer)
- Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo in Noir-Ivoire (lid)
- Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Blazing Gold (lower lash line)
- Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Beige Lame (crease)
- Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara (upper and lower lashes)
- MAC Concrete Eyeshadow (brows)
Cheeks
- Chanel Les Tissages de Chanel in Tweed Rose (apples)
- Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel Highlighting Powder (upper cheek bones)
Lips
- Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Triomphal
Now I’m off to Petco covered in Chanel! You-know-who wants me to get him a second backup costume for Halloween, just in case his primary costume, which I’m still under instructions (and a non-disclosure agreement) not to share, and his backup costume (last year’s yellow submarine) don’t work out.
BIG sigh… An assistant’s work is never done.
Before I jet, what did you think of the Project Runway finale? Holy crap, right? Now THAT was something I did not expect. If you care to cheer or vent, hit me up in the comments. I’ll be right back.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Yay Petco! You should put Tabs on his leash and let him walk around there. That would be so cute! He could pick out is own costume!
Your eyes makeup looks awesome! I can’t affor dChanel right now, but I want everything just so I can copy your look. Trader Joe’s and Petco won’t know what hit ’em!

I love your eye makeup Karen! 😀

KAREN.
This look is just so classic and fabulous! Chanel reference inserted 🙂 I adore the eye look, and the lips are to. die. for. Could you one day do a tutorial on the eyes? It’s so beautiful. One of those eye looks you could gaze at for a long time. Thank you for posting! LOVE this. And love that you went all out in Chanel to Petco and TJ’s. Why save the good silver for special occasions?! IT SHOULD BE USED.

I can’t wait to see Tabs’s costume!

You know, it is really mean of you to always rub your trips to Trader Joe’s in the faces of us sad folk who live in Joe’s-less communities! 😉

I love to occasionally glam it up before running errands — fun!
As for Project Runway — I really wanted Victor to win, but by last night I was on the “anyone but Joshua” train, so it’s all good!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this look! Great job! WERK! 🙂
Amanda says
Ha! I do heavy eye make up only to go somewhere like Target all the time. Makes me happy, especially when it’s been a lazy, boring day. Glad I’m not the only crazy person out there. 🙂
Ava says
Wow! You look so elegant! May I copy?
Marian says
Oh my! You look stunning! Hubs should take you out for a drink tonight!
Kim says
Such a pretty look. As for Project Runway, I was totally bummed. I think Kimberly deserved to win. Anya is a one trick pony, and the only pants she ever creates are part of a flowy jumpsuit. I think technically, she isn’t up to par, even if she has a good eye for prints.
Alicia says
Anya has been designing for a while now but she only learnt to sew in the few months leading up to Project Runway so her designs were probably limited to what she was able to sew at that point. And while most of her designs can be classified as resort wear because she is accustomed to designing for Trinidadians who live in a tropical climate, I think she is up to the challenge to create seasonal collections. After all there must be a reason why she has won the most challenges ever on Project Runway. If you’re interested in seeing what she has designed previously, google Pilar by Anya, keeping in mind that her market is the Caribbean woman.
Alicia says
Just wanted to share some thoughts on Anya winning Project Runway…
I am a Trinidadian like Anya and you wouldn’t believe the support she had all the way from our little twin island republic. We are a very patriotic people and you have no idea how proud we were to have one of our own make it all the way to the finals and eventually win Project Runway. Facebook and Twitter were going crazy with updates. Trinidadians all over the world were anxiously awaiting to hear the outcome. We’re really proud of her and it’s a little extra special as we both attended the same high school. 🙂

Love that look on you, Karen! And the red lips is so hot!

You look stunning, love it!

No way, I saw that coming a few eps ago. Plus you KNOW they ALWAYS edit the footage to keep people guessing about the winner. I bet a lot of comments from the judges about how much they loved her stuff were left on the floor.
I also happen to think she has the most real talent, just needs some more professional training. Her stuff is innovative without being weird. Just IMO.

WOW I love this look, it looks amazing on you! It makes me want to buy all the shadows from the collection. Any chance you can recommend some less expensive alternatives to get a similar eye?

Wonderful look!
And I can´t wait to see Tab´s costume! 😉 hihi 🙂
And I love Chanel stuff so much!

Oooh, I especially love the lip color (oh, I am SO predictable with lip color).
Unfortunately, I agree with just about everything Tom and Lorenzo said in their post on Friday :/. The show (and the talent pool) has really gone downhill over the years. Luckily, at least some of the greats of early seasons (Austin! Yayyy!) will be on All Stars. I thought it should’ve been Viktor and Kimberly on the runway at the end, with Viktor winning (although I like Kim better as a person). I really wasn’t fond of Josh’s collection. It was like he raided DJ’s closet from Full House or something! I plan on billing him for the ophthalmologist trips I’ll inevitably need due to his neon green lace-up shorts causing retinal scarring, lol.
Anya for the most part seems like a sweet girl and has a great eye for prints. I just think that, considering her skill level, she should’ve tried out for, say, Project Runway season 14, and not season 9. While I don’t dislike her (and it seems like some opposed to her win do), I think the bar for acceptance onto the show — let alone winning — should be set higher than her current skill level. I have no doubt that, with time, Anya will become a fantastic designer. However, in past seasons, needing time to grow/mature precluded a designer from winning the big prize (quintessential example = Daniel Vosovic in S2). If you compare Anya to past winners Jay McCarroll, Chloe Dao, Christian Siriano, Leanne Marshall, and Seth Aaron Henderson, it’s clear that she needs another few years to better her skills and develop her voice (while her instincts lead to beautiful dresses, the scope of her design is incredibly narrow).
I wish Anya nothing but the best, but I don’t think think she was the right choice (and I think the right choice was frankly pretty obvious). Honestly, after last year’s insanity of Gretchen winning over Mondo, I couldn’t get too worked up about it: when that happened, the show lost a good amount of legitimacy in my eyes. Anyway, I’m going to stop ranting, lol. I’m so rambly!

Oh Chanel! So beautiful.
As for the Project Runway finale — I was cheering for Anya. I can’t say why, she just seemed to have the best attitude throughout. I didn’t like her collection more than Victors or Kim’s, but I think Micheal Kors said it the best in the episode — I can’t wait to see Anya Jewelry, Anya handbags — and I agree with him. Yes, not everyone can wear flowy dresses all the time, but if you look back at the season, that’s not all she made. I think she had the most natural talent and taste. Victor lost it because he didn’t keep his original collection. Kim’s collection was beautiful, but she didn’t deserve to be the winner — she didn’t have many standout moments. Josh, while on the way to getting better, just has too much to say, and doesn’t know how to get past that. I liked the final four, and I can see why Anya won– I will look up her collection when it comes out. I don’t think I’d say that for any of the other contestants.
