A Monday Face of the Day with the New Laura Mercier Luxe Colour Portfolio for Holiday 2011

Okay, so I haven’t figured out why the new $98 Laura Mercier Limited Edition Luxe Colour Portfolio palette comes in a faux snakeskin box, but I do think there’s something mysteriously luxurious about it.

Part of Laura’s new holiday collection, it combines the… Yeah, I’m drawing a blank on the snakeskin holiday thing, but nonetheless, here’s a super quick face of the day. :)

The palette comes with six non-venomous powder eyeshadows, three cake liners, three powder blushes and three eye brushes, and it’s available now at Laura Mercier counters and also online.

Review/swatches, and perhaps a decent holiday snake reference, coming soon!

Oooh, this looks so pretty on you, it’s perfect! Also you skin looks extra amazing, is this a new foundation?

I’ve decided I’m allowed one holiday pallette/set/splurge, and I’m thinking it’ll be a Mac brush set ( I only own one MAC brush, and im in the need for brushes anyways, plus I like travel size brushes). So I probably won’t be splurging for this, but I loooove the colors!

    • Fieran says:

The full sized ones are more durable though, I’ve been buying a brush every couple of months to slowly grow my collection. They last for years.

    • trayceeee says:

I agree with Fieran. The brush sets that come out in collections are machine made and not hand-made like the full sized ones. They are not the good Mac quality you’re thinking. The brush sets are how much? $50? If you’re located in the US you’re better off getting two full-sized brushes that you know will last you years and you will use everyday.

Or, how about a sigma travel sized set for $50? I got one of them in black and the brushes are all pretty good. Use them equally as much as my Mac full-sized.

      • Adrienne says:

Thanks for the advice! Would you say sigma is better than MAC travel sets, ignoring price point? I checked out the sigma sets, and I’ve been looking t sigma for some time now, But the MAC set just had more of what I need in it. Also I work at Macy’s and if I buy on the right day I can get 30% off bringing it to like $35, but now I’m not so sure.
Maybe I’ll get just the sigma brushes I want (crease blending brush, blush brush/powder brush, domed synthetic skunk brush, etc) and get a set of MAC pigments instead!

    Mornin’ Karen !

    Awesome that you’re back !

You seem to be positively glowing to say the least ! Skin is looking fresh and rested and that lip color suits you so well.

    Have a good day ma’am !

  3. Anna says:

I love this look! To be honest, your complexion stole the show for me, it’s stunning! Which foundation are you wearing here?

  4. Molly says:

Pretty. I think the lip color really flatters you! :D

  5. Christy says:

Laura, you never disappoint :) Everything she comes out with is polished and classy (and a win!). However, I am not particularly a fan of big palettes like this because I find them clunky and taking up too much space. Plus I get sticker shock even though sometimes it’s a better value…. :/

  6. Gummy says:

I have to agree! Your complexion is gorgeous! =D Did you wear a different foundation? Is it PInkberry’s, or slewing the vomiting triceratops that gave you that special, inner glow? Hee hee…

And I also like this look on you – it’s probably my favorite in the past few weeks (not that you weren’t ravishing in the other ones, hee hee, just this one I liked more!). ^_^

  7. Karen says:

Thanks for the nice comments on the foundation, guys!

I’m wearing good ol’ MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42 w/Careblends Pressed on top.

It’s been a while since I’ve taken it out for a spin… now I remember why I love it so much.

What foundation did you wear today?

  8. Jessi says:

I have to agree with everyone else, your skin is looking exceptionally fabulous in the these pictures. I like these colors on you, too. they’re really flattering.

In other news, good to have you back! I bet Tabs is happy, too. Is he still in his extra lovey phase of when you return from trips?

  11. Let says:

The Merlot eyeshadow looks very pretty! Is it the one you wear? The color suits you so much! :-)

    The pallette looks amazing, and it includes 3 brushes… but so expensive ;___;

  12. Vonvon says:

I have always ogled at the beautiful holiday palettes of Laura Mercier but never bought one. I only ever bought one of the Signature Toolbox when it went on half price after the holiday season. And one eye kohl set. Reason….no matter how pretty, I just cannot justify the price, the High price tag!

But I have always loved the African Violet eyeshadow shade!

One of your best looks of late! We’re skin tone twins! I bought the Chanel Mat Lumiere in 100 Soft Honey upon reading your review! I’d love to know which shade of the new Chanel foundation would suit us best!

  18. Chryztyners says:

    You look stunning, Karen!
I like the palette, especially the cake liners. Are those cake liners available separately? I love the burgundy wine shade…I think I’ll look for a good dupe for that. haha.

    • Nora says:

As someone who went on a burgundy liner kick recently, I can definitely tell you – no, that color is not available separately. MAC just released a burgundy fluidline, but it sold out quickly (maybe try eBay). The best you can do is use a burgundy eyeshadow as liner, such as MAC Sketch.

You look stunning! At first I couldn’t figure out why you looked so much younger and just so fresh (for lack of a more appropriate word). I read the other comments and I concur, AMAZING skin! :D The palette colors flatter you wonderfully as well. I think the thicker eyeliner also makes your eyes just pop. Very pretty, Karen! :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Chris,

I’ve worn them in the past and like them a lot. They wear really well along both the last and waterline.

How’s your week going? Good, I hope!

      Hi Monika,

I think you could pull these shades off. One great thing about Laura’s palettes is that she usually includes colors that are flexible enough for light and dark skin. :)
