On the one hand, I love wearing Urban Decay’s new $18 Easy Baked Eyeshadow. The slight semblance of cantaloupe that peeks through when the light hits it just right keeps it from ending up in the run-of-the-mill bronze eye shadow pile.
And when I wear it, thanks to the soft shimmer, which works like DOPE-@ss mood lighting, I swear I don’t look half as tired as I usually feel.
But on the other hand, I hate it.
HATE IT!
No, not because it two-timed or double crossed me, Don Draper-style. I actually think it’s a great little eye shadow. Worn with a primer, this bronzed peach lasts all day long on my lids (although without one, I start to see creases after two), blends like it was born for gradients, and I just know it’ll rock the Casbah with the corals, browns and teals I plan to wear on my eyes this summer.
It’s just that every time I wear Easy Baked…I think of the Easy Bake Oven I always wanted as a kid but never got.
Wasn’t the Easy Bake Oven the coolest??
I was so jealous of those girls in the commercial baking brownies in their bedroom (I mean, baking brownies in your bedroom? How cool is that!?). My mom never baked because cooking wasn’t really her thing. It wasn’t until I left for college that I realized that cooked meat didn’t have to have the texture of an old leathery shoe (sorry, Mom!).
Heck, I’m considering getting an Easy Bake Oven now and keeping it by my bed (beside the emergency jar of Nutella).
But I don’t know… Urban Decay Easy Baked is probably safer. 🙂
If you get a chance, give it a try with something like Urban Decay Smog or Bourbon on your lash lines and your favorite bronzer swept in the crease. It’s so summery and effortless…
PRICE: $18
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Urban Decay counters and also online

Speaking of baked goods
Holy crap! I had a life-changing loaf of bread from Trader Joe’s yesterday, their Whole Clove Garlic Artisan Bread.
El Hub wanted to make us spaghetti with garlic bread last night, and he only grabbed a loaf because TJ’s was out of their regular French bread.
It has whole cloves of buttery, mild garlic baked into it.
WHOLE CLOVES!
It’s still very garlic-y, but not like you’re eating raw garlic or anything.
OMG, so good! — especially with loads of butter smothered on top…
Just don’t make out with your vampire boyfriend right after eating it.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. On a more serious note, what’s the world coming to, babe? I was taking a break this afternoon and pulled up cnn.com, and there it was: 3 dead in Boston Terror Attack.
It just makes me so sad… There’s no way to explain something like this. I like to think of myself as an optimist, but sometimes it’s hard.
If you were affected in any way today, directly or indirectly, please know that I’m thinking of you.

speaking of nutella, did you hear about the nutella heist in germany? 5.5 tons of nutella gone!!
or that students at columbia university stole nutella and cost the university thousands of dollars per week?
Karen says
Hi Jenna,
That’s a LOT of Nutella. I wonder what happened to it? And why would one want to steal all that Nutella?!

Mmmmm bread 🙂 Karen I have a question, since your RSS feed has changed I cannot read your blog via flipboard! It misses bits out and no matter what I do to try and change the link to the one you have put – http://www.makeupandbeautyblod.com/feed/ it does not work 🙁 it says that feed doesn’t exist 🙁 can anyone help?? Thank you! Xxx
Karen says
Hi Izzy,
I’m sorry. I just don’t know, but I’ll ask the company I use for my feeds now. I changed it because most people feel that after Google discontinued Reader, they would discontinue Feedburner soon, their old feed service and the one I was using.
I think it’s probably something to do with somehow getting Flipboard to properly resync with the new feed. Adding this one might work for you: https://feeds.feedblitz.com/makeupandbeautyblog
If that one doesn’t, this one may: https://feeds.feedblitz.com/makeupandbeautyblog&x=1
The first one is the link without a redirect, but it’s the same feed, and the second one is the XML version, which may also work. Let me know if they don’t work, and I’ll try to think of something else.
Sunny says
Whoa this one is definitely calling my name! Love how fresh and easy it is! Also, that bread looks soooo delicious 🙂
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Hope you try it!

I sympathize with the Easy Bake Oven. I never had one either and they looked so awesome.
Our local supermarket has a bakery and makes a similar artisan bread with whole cloves and one with whole cloves and cheese baked in (also delish).
The Hubs had the news on when I got home and they were still running live footage from Boston. It’s a terrible thing and I can’t imagine being there or having a loved one who was there. I think this kind of tragedy is also made worse by the non-stop media “coverage” which was basically showing the same horrific footage over and over while speculating on the who, why and how. This is why I despise 24 hour “news” channels. 🙁
Karen says
Hi Kim,
What was the deal with parents dissing toys with heating elements? LOL My mom and dad also resisted Lite Brite for years, but eventually they gave in. Easy Bake was always a no-go, though.
That whole clove bread with the cheese sounds like my bread dream come true.
I feel the same way about the news channels. 🙁
Lorraine says
I’ll tell you the deal, they were scared you were gonna burn your little fingers or get a nasty electric shock! Some of the easy bake models were recalled because of safety problems. I’m with your mom on this one. and on the no cooking thing, too.
Kim says
I’m not kidding when I tell you that I only remember a few Christmas presents from my youth (we didn’t get much but I wasn’t a kid who pined for a lot of toys) but I distinctly remember getting Lite Brite. I was the happiest kid ever. Other winners? Etch-a-Sketch and… wait for it…Fashion Plates. So not like me now but I spent hours designing outfits with colored pencils and re-arranging those 3 plates! In related news, I’m incredibly old. HAHA!
Kim says
Oh fashion plates!!!! They were the best. My absolute favorite for years!

I LOVE this eye shadow. I’m so glad I got it in time for Spring & Summer.
Karen says
Hi Danielle,
Nice. What’ve you been wearing it with?
Painted Lady says
This is so gorgeous! It would look gorgeous with Half Baked and Baked as well! It’s definitely going to be by in my bag by summer :]
Karen says
Hi Painted Lady,
Yup! Love those colors too. Have you ever tried them with teal liner? So great.
megan says
Looks beautiful! I had an Easy Bake Oven as a kid….loved that thing and my Barbie Fold n’ Fun house LOL
Monica P says
I did have an easy bake oven as a kid. Who knew you could bake a cake with a light bulb?
Monica.

I never had an easybake either and I wanted one so bad too!
Is this color in the Naked II palette? It looks familiar but I don’t think I have a single of it…
The founder and CTO of the company I work for was running in the Boston Marathon and even though I’ve only known him for 4 months I was terrified when I got the CNN alert yesterday. I texted him right away, he’s one of my managers and he had crossed the finish line 10 min. before. He was so lucky. What happened there was tragic. The pictures and stories are horrifying but I’m with you Karen, let’s try to remain optimistic and hope for better days.
Savannah says
This is my favorite look on you!!! You look awesome!!
kristen @ glambunctious says
It’s a shock and a heartbreak what happened in Boston. My heart goes out to anyone affected. It’s unreal the kind of evil that lurks in the world, and when events like this happen, it is very hard to be an optimist. I think the only thing you can do is pause and mourn, and, when you’re ready, look for any glimmer of positivity that came out of the tragedy, like the runners who immediately ran to area hospitals to donate blood, or those who ran TOWARD the explosions to help anyone they could, risking their lives in the process. It’s a hell of a world we live in, but you gotta stay positive and thankful for everything good in it and all the things that haven’t gone wrong. Much love!
Kim says
Oh my gosh! I never got an Easy Bake Oven either! I asked for one for three years, and wondered why Santa never procured one for me. I had been such a good girl (ha ha). My mom later confessed that they were always sold out and that she spent lots of time trying to hunt one down (these were pre-internet and ebay days!). But you know, I think it is good to remember something that as a child, you really wanted, but never got. Character building and all…and I had the best parents a girl could ask for.
Izzy says
Thanks Karen 🙂 I think the second one has worked….. Fingers crossed….. If I have any problems I’ll let you know, thank you for helping! p.s. love the blog 🙂
