I panic a little when I can’t find my stick of Bobbi Brown Jet.
Okay, a lot. I panic a lot. And based on the fact that Jet is almost always out of stock when I stop by a Bobbi counter, I’m probably not the only one.
Jet, a deep, true black long-wearing gel liner in pencil form, has a flat matte finish and sells for $24 as part of Bobbi’s permanent line.
That may sound like a lot for a basic black eye liner, but seriously — Jet is anything but basic. I think it’s easily the best black pencil liner available on any counter now.
The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorite permanent collection products from a variety of bodacious beauty brands. 🙂
Why do I like it so much?
Because it gets great, great mileage. Like a Prius times 12. We’re talkin’ crazy good wear time on my lash and water lines.
Over the years, I’ve worn (and stockpiled) dozens of black liners, and Jet is the only one that consistently lasts 16 or more hours for me (yes, some days are REALLY long) without getting patchy or breaking up throughout those infernal, eternal days. When it’s on, it’s on like Donkey Kong.
Whenever some cruel twist of fate/scheduling forces me to start my day well before dawn (when even the chickens are still snoring) I grab Jet.
Sometimes I’ll see some very minor smudging around hour 12 (!), but still — hour 12? That’s impressive.
And it’s super easy to apply. Jet’s silky, soft formula coasts along my lash and water lines like a private jet at 30,000 feet, and one swipe delivers a dark, dramatic black line.
For smudgier looks, I’ll buff out the edges before Jet sets, which usually takes around 3-4 minutes.
Where Jet doesn’t rock my boat is in super blended looks with powder eye shadows; for instance, when I use an eye pencil as a base for smokey eyes. In those cases, when I need maybe 10-15 minutes to manipulate my products, Jet simply sets too fast.
As with any product, Jet has its limitations, but it sure pushes the envelope.
More movie fun: Chalet Girl
I have a soft spot for movies in which the heroine overcomes all odds to become the superstar athlete/dancer/singer/surfer/knitter/cat lady/butter sculptor, and Chalet Girl is one of the better ones from the genre I’ve seen in a while (bet it was heavily influenced by Blue Crush).
Little cheesy? Abso-smurfly. Predictable at times? You betcha. But it’s still a hoot. 🙂 Good one to watch with your girlfriends on a rainy Saturday afternoon with a behemoth bowl of popcorn.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Jet was out of stock whenever I went by the counter, so I picked up Smoke. Its a dark matte smokey grey. I absolutely love it 🙂

SEE! They can’t seem to keep Jet at the counter! Okay, it sounds like I need Smoke in my life ASAP. Have you tried it on your water line yet?
Appu says
Yes! It doesn’t irritate and most long-wear liners I try seem to irritate me 😀

Good to know! I’ve been looking for a good long-wear liner that I can wear on my inner rim for a sexy smoky look. I’ll have to see if they have it in stock here in Denver. I may go for smoke though since I’m so pale black can look a bit harsh.

That is one hell of an eye pencil indeed!
And about that movie, I would watch it. If only for the male lead in it 🙂

What about the little flakes that come off of some eyeliners and plop into your eyes and stick to your contacts like little demons? Does this have any issues of that sort?

Jet sounds awesome. If I’m in the market for a new black, I will check it out. My current fave liners are the Laura Mercier ones (lately been rocking Stormy Grey and Black Violet – they look awesome with my green-hazel eyes), and UD 24/7 in Zero or Perversion. If I’m going to wear makeup for working out (which is starting to become my norm, as with martial arts I can easily put in 2 to 3 workouts a day), the Laura Mercier ones work ok with primer, but my UD 24/7 ones won’t smudge or come off easily.

You should try the bareminerals round the clock eyeliners – they sound very similar to this (although I haven’t tried this). I have really oily eyelids and the bareminerals last all day!! They’re really soft and have lovely colours..

I’ve used Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in the little “pots” for a long time and thought they were the best, but this outwears even those. I have it in Black Plum and the only issue I have is that it shows more black than plum, but it lasts so long that the very long wear time overrides that. I wear contacts and have NO problems with any little flecks or fall out. This is really the best eye pencil I’ve ever used.

Has anyone compared the Bobbi Brown to the Giorgio Armani ‘Eyes to Kill Acqua’ Waterproof Eyeliner on the waterline?

I love Bobby Brown

I don’t believe I’ve tried this one, but now I’m curious! Before the long-wearing formulas were really around/started to take off, I used to be a loyal user of Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Eye Pencil. But once I discovered MUFE’s Aqua Eyes liners, I never looked back. I know the Creamy Eye Pencil has long since been replaced by the Long-Wearing ones but I was so scared to stray from the MUFE ones for fear that I would be disappointd, I haven’t given any of the other brands’ longwearing pencils a shot. I am VERY curious about this one now though. 12 hours is a LONG time!

You’re giving Netflix a workout, too, I see. 🙂 I just finished the first season of Homeland and now I’ll be waiting for Season 2 to become available. Sadly, we don’t have Showtime. I think you said you liked it, too. Have you seen Season 2 yet?
