Ringing in the New Year With the Tarte Tartelette in Bloom Palette

The Tartelette in Bloom palette ($45)

Good morning, my wonderful, amazing, glorious, sweet friend, and…

I’m so happy to be spending another year with you, and this is gonna be a good one, too. I can feel it! — and no, this time the feeling isn’t gas, LOL! πŸ™‚

There’s a lot of stuff going on in the world, but… Well, no buts. There is. Life is scary sometimes and complicated, but it’s also great.

I wish you health, happiness, fun, laughter, compassion, kindness, sweetness, beauty and love in 2016. That would make me the happiest girl in the world. May the universe bless you with health, happiness and love, my friend, because what else is there, really?

Now…we have swatches. πŸ™‚

OK, seeing as how I pretty much wore Tarte’s $45 Tartelette In Bloom clay palette for, oh, almost the entire month of December, I figure that it’s probably time I give it a quick swatchy-poo.

The 12-pan 2015/16 Tartelette in Bloom palette ($45, limited edition, available now)

Yeah, I can’t remember the last time I wore the same palette for almost an entire month, both because I haven’t been wanting to wear a lot of eyeshadow lately, and also because I have a short makeup attention span.

Basically, Tartelette in Bloom is the latest version of the last Tartelette palette (that one was $44, and this year’s is $45), but I think it’s even better.

Like last year’s, it has 12 neutral powder eyeshadows; contains Tarte’s trademark super ingredient, Amazonian Clay; lasts all day long on my lids with very minimal creasing; and it’s cruelty free (like all of Tarte’s products).

This time around, though, the shadows are richer, more pigmented, and I think they’re also more interesting.

“Introducing our tartelette 2 in bloom palette – featuring 12 brand new, never-before-seen shades. With 9 mattes and 3 lusters, these lid liner and crease pairings allow you to create stunning, smoldering looks without the guesswork.”

Tartelette in Bloom…

I definitely don’t have to layer as much as I do with the O.G. Tartelette, and I think there’s more variation among the color temps — like cool tones, warm tones and neutral tones — as opposed to the original Tartelette, which I feel has an overall cooler color temp.

There are also a few shimmers in the mix, so it isn’t entirely mattes.

I think it’s a great palette if you happen to be going through a lazy makeup phase like I am because you pretty much get everything in it. So many mattes, along with some beautiful shimmery accent shades to break up the matte-ness.

There are also good shades for brow bones, crease colors, lid colors and darker shades you can use as liners or for smoky eyes.

Flower Child, Smarty Pants, Firecracker and Activist

Um…it’s also good for travel, by the way. I took it with me on a short trip over the holidays to see my parents and then up to Redding to visit my in-laws, and I didn’t want for any other shadows the whole time. I just used this palette. Like the O.G. version, it’s good for hanging with family or just doing chill things where you seriously don’t need to be wearing, like, five shadows up in your crease. If you just want to wear one or two shadows on your lids with a little liner or mascara, it’s lovely for that.

Funny Girl, Sweetheart, Rebel and Leader

You probably will have to contend with some fallout, though, so don’t forget to tap the excess off your brush first.

On the flip side, the fluffy powders blend smoothly, which means less time spent blending.

All in all, big ups for this palette, especially if you have a medium or darker skin tone. I love it (says the girl who’s been wearing it almost daily for the past month!)

Happy New Year, Karen & family (2- and 4-legged)!!

Wow, these are luscious, wearable, adaptable neutrals! Thank you for the swatches, even though my current NY’s resolution is to not buy any more makeup until I actually run out of something (I know, what am I thinking?!).

Have to also say I appreciate your beauty blog bc it never occurred to me before (and probably why I avoided beauty blogs in the past) to refer to a beauty blogger with same skin tone. Thank you!

    Best & brightest 2016 wishes!

  2. Laure says:

Happy New Year to you, Tabs, the Bub and the Hub!
    Hope you’ve had a great start to 2016! β™₯

  3. Holly says:

Happiest of New Year’s to you, Karen! I spent last night babysitting, so no hangover headache but I do have a sinus one as it’s been quite cold & dry here.

I’ve been leaning towards buying a Tarte palette & I think you may have just convinced me! And at $3.75 per shadow, it’s a good deal. I’m traveling to Arizona in a month to see family & have been thinking about creating a capsule collection of makeup (inspired by a post by Lulle of Beaumiroir). The palette would definitely give me myriad options while taking up minimal space.

Thanks for your great posts & reviews & photos & all your encouragement; reading your blog is one of the highlights of my day!

  4. Sandy P says:

Wow Karen!! Love it but I am not, am not, am not buying another eye palette until late spring!! I just found a nude palette that I have never used. My New Year promise to myself is to organize my makeup in clear containers so I can actually see what I have. Problem is our bathrooms in our condo are so darn small that I have no room on the counter or in the drawers. May look into an over the door hanging organizer. What do you think? Anybody? Anybody?

    • Holly says:

I haven’t tried a hanging organizer although I’ve seen in magazines that some people use the ones designed for shoes for their makeup storage. Maybe that would work for you? Good luck!

    • Carolyn says:

Hi Sandy, I live in a small condo too with a non-existent bathroom counter. I have one of those shoe organizers for the back of the door and it’s great for organizing all my palettes (and a little embarrassing to see how many I have). I also use those clear plastic drawers in my cupboard. I have one that’s just for my everyday stuff so I pull the entire drawer out and balance it on my itty bitty counter. The rest of my makeup stash is in my linen closet so I regularly shop my stash and switch things up. It all seems to be working really well.

  5. Bonnie Clyne says:

Cheers to all! This is a lovely looking palette and looks like it was custom made for you, Karen. So pretty.

  6. Erin says:

Yeah, if you are warm toned this palette is pretty much a no brainer. I wish it was a touch more neutral undertoned but then I’d have to buy it!

I wish you a new year full of joy Karen! This is going to be so busy and exciting for you… I can’t wait to see Baby Girl!

As for this palette, I wasn’t interested but you made me crave it! These swatches look amazing, and there are many, many days when I want to wear easy neutrals rather than peacock blue and mustard yellow…

  10. Stephanie says:

I recently picked up this palette and I agree, I love it. If you tap your brush the fallout is minimal. I love how buttery soft the eyeshadows are and how easy they blend. Everything just works really well together.

Happy New Year, soon to be Mommy!! The beginning of this post made me cry…yes I’m an emotional roller coaster lately, but it was true and beautiful!

Amazing pigments! I must get this pallette!! I get to take a trip home to Chicago very soon, and I’m literally going with an empty suitcase!! I can not wait to load this pallette into it!!

Happy New Year to all from New Jersey! I really love the Tarte palette and wish I had a need for 12 shadows (as pretty as they are), but I know that it would be a waste of money for me. I haven’t been doing much eyeshadow lately, mybeyes are just so dry.
So jusrvgot back from seeing Star Wars and I have to say that it was good, but no where near as good as the original which I did see in 1977 when it opened. Anyway, so much to look forward to this year!

I still like the first one a little better, but I like this one a lot. It is nice that Tarte threw in some shimmers and rosy shades so it wasn’t too much like the original.

Happy new year! I like this new palette’s colours better than the original. This’ll be added on a to buy list for me. πŸ™‚

Love these swatches! I already bought this palette using Ulta’s 20% off holiday coupon, but I’ve been battling a cold and the lovely was lost in my stash. (Lost, but not forgotten.) Now I can’t wait to get my hands on it and start playing!

  22. Agata says:

    Happy New Year, Karen!

The palette is really nice but I am looking forward to some new palettes with more unusual colors. I am tempted to get the new Too Faced Bon Bon palette.

    Happy New Year!

I’ve been reading beauty blogs like yours this past month as guide for makeup (I’m sorry I didn’t leave a comment, though)

This palette has been in my Sephora cart for so long because the packaging is so pretty and I feel like it’s that one palette that an eyeshadow beginner could fully use. (I wanted to buy Naked Basics palette, but it doesn’t ship to Japan.) But if the packaging isn’t an issue, I think that I would’ve shifted to Too Faced’s Natural Eyes palette.

I would definitely buy it this month or the next. Thank you for the review!

Hau’oli Makahiki Hou to you, Tabs, el Hub and baby girl! Here’s to a fabulous year for us all! Aloooooooooha!

  31. Carolyn says:

I picked up this palette right before Christmas but being away with the family for the past couple weeks I only got to play with it yesterday and already I’m loving it. I also picked up a couple of the eye shadows from Mac’s Faerie collection and have been using those and the Tarte palette and love the looks.
