Mine must be Sally Hansen’s Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit ($7). Without it my upper lip would look just like this guy’s!
It’s easy to use and vanquishes upper lip hair faster than you can belt Beyonce’s Halo (love ya, B!). Plus, each box (a three-month supply) costs barely *half* as much as one sesh at the wax salon. 🙂

Hi Anonymous,
Cetaphil soap rocks! I use it on my legs when they are extra dry.

I love the Maybelline Age Rewind Double-ended concealer. It’s really portable, brightens up my undereyes when I mix the concealer side with the highlighter side, does a great job covering blemishes or anything else with the concealer side.
Karen says
Hi Jenna,
I haven’t used a drugstore concealer in awhile so I’ll have to look into this one. 🙂
YadiQ says
my favorite drugstore product is almay bright eyes concealer
works magic on my horrendous dark under eye circles
Karen says
Hi Yadi,
You are my concealer hero… I will have to try it. Do you set it with powder? Or does it stay on its own?
Martha says
Maybelline whipped blush. Blends easy and sheer color.
HIP L’Oreal Jelly balm. It’s non sticky, you get a hint of color, and of course it’s glossy without looking greasy.
Almay eye makeup remover. Gentle, non irritating, in other words gets the job done on the cheap.
Alba toner. All natural toner (I use it as an Aveda dupe) for sensitive skin.
Karen says
Hi Martha,
Which Alba toner do you use? The one with the Hawaiian print bottle?
Martha says
Hi Karen, I use the sea kelp one in the green bottle.
CC says
I trust Allure magazine’s annual Best of Beauty awards and Reader’s Choice Awards. The first one tests products at all price points. They get TONS of products sent to them, and I’m pretty sure they aren’t biased about the results (at least as bias-free as a magazine publication with cosmetics sponsors can get). This year’s entire master list can be found on their website at allure.com.
CC says
Oh yeah, and my favorite drugstore buy is Physicians Formula mosaic compact bronzing powder!
Glosslizard says
I love Jergen’s Shea Butter body lotion for a yummy-smelling post-shower skin treat! I also buy sunscreens (Aveeno, Coppertone Nutrishield or Neutrogena) and waterproof mascaras (Max Factor Lash Perfection or CoverGirl Lash Blast) since I only use them very occasionally and can’t stand spending high prices on them when they expire before I use them up!
YadiQ says
it stays pretty good on its own but i always set it with powder just out of habit from using other concealers in the past
i was loyal to mac’s concealer for years till they changed the formula with more moisture and it just didn’t conceal enough, i moved on to chanel which is fab but just too much $$ and i pretty much drink this stuff, i tried lancome photogenic it was great in terms of coverage but i found it hard to work it cause i just don’t have the time to play with dry-ish concealers but this almay bright eyes fits my needs pretty darn good – try it for the price i think its pretty awesome and you know my undereye issues !

I am a huge believer that every woman can find some AMAZING products at their local drugstore & not have to break the bank. These are some of all-time faves:
– Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation for Combo/Oily Skin (some call it the drugstore version of MAC SFF, full coverage, matte finish, doesn’t budge/transfer, $10-$12)
– Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner (I use the twist-up pencil & liquid versions, these liners stay on ALL day & have a fantastic smooth application, $6-$8)
– Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara (it gives me super long & voluminous lashes w/ no clumping or spider effect,$6-$8)
– Almay Oil-Free Makeup Remover Pads (no greasy feeling, takes off everything incl. waterproof mascara/liner, $6)
– Maybelline Mineral Power Blush in Gentle Pink (gorgeous buildable color, the perfect pink flush, $8)
– Maybelline Mineral Power Translucent Finishing Veil (awesome drugstore equivalent to BE mineral veil, $10)
– Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Soft Plum (same idea as a cream blush but better, smooth/blendable application, great colors, $7)
– Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara (this mascara curls your lashes as it lengthens & thickens, $5)
– Rimmel Spark It Up Eyeliner in Black Gold (NEW for summer, comes in an array of colors, nice & smooth w/ beautiful metallic pigmentation, $5)
– Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent (a great inexpensive version of MAC Blot Powder, $4)
– Sally Hansen Nail Growth Miracle (makes my nails grow super fast, super long & super strong, $6)
– Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat (makes polish last forever, can’t live without it, $6)
– Love’s Baby Soft Cologne Mist (light powdery scent, when all else fails, I reach for this, will be my standby fragrance probably forever, $6)
Vampy Varnish says
I think I’m gonna have to say Cetaphil. Been using it as a makeup remover for about 10 years and I just love it. Never makes me break out, doesn’t make my skin greasy or dry, no scent. It’s perfect!

I switched over to Cerave cleanser & lotion in the wintertime to soothe my dry face and haven’t looked back. At CVS, they’re on the shelf, but in some places, they’re kept behind the pharmacy counter. At about $9 for 12oz, this stuff is a bargain and works better than any of the high-end products I’ve used in the past.
Sejal says
The Olay Regenerist Products, I have been using the eye serum for a couple months now and I love it for fading dark circles and improving the appearance of the eye area. I also can never do without my Aveeno lotion!

I love my Carmindy foundation (that’s not the whole name, but I can’t bear to type out the full Sally Hansen name – it’s horrendously long!). It applies like a dream, lasts well, and you can’t really tell I’m wearing it. Love, love love!
Elle says
I love anything by L’Oreal (those Juicy Gloss tubes are awesome), Nivea lotions, Neutrogena hand lotion and sunscreen, and the Freeman sugar scrubs–the pomegranate one smells amazing and is around $5.

Two things I love —
1. Carmindy for Sally Hansen’s Fast Fix Concealer in All-Over Brightener is a moist yet decently thick pink concealer that helps camouflage my dark circles when I don’t get enough sleep. It’s really light, so you have to use something over it, but it’s great and I could see it working on a range of skin tones from very fair, to light like me, to at least medium.
2. Neutrogena’s Clean Lash Tint does not last long (unless you put a clear waterproofer on it) but it is the perfect not-quite mascara for me when I want to look like I’m not wearing any, which is often during the day. This has NO volumizing, lengthening or curling products — this is when you want to look like you have nothing on. My eyelashes are already very long, pretty thick, and curly; my problem is that the tips are lighter than the rest of my lashes so I like to at least wear this to make them stand out more. For the first month or so of application, literally no clumps (and I mean that in the strictest way — it looks like your own lashes but darker), and afterwards, it only takes a comb through or two to get them out for the exact same effect. I love this stuff and I always make sure that I have a tube in my mascara drawer (yeah, uh, I have too many mascaras…I’ve put myself on a mascara quarantine for the next month or two while I use them).

by farrrr, Almay’s Liquid Liner.
That is the only liner i use! I refuse to spend more on eye liner … because Almay’s liner is the BEST!!!
Etherealprey says
Nivea body lotion, stuff is awesome, moisturizes and you don’t need a whole lot of it either! Gotta love your skin!
Witch hazel, tones skin, cleans cuts and first aid stuff, i use it to disinfect my phone, earphones after the gym.
St Ives apricot scrub – cause it feels like a new layer of skin, and a great body scrub.
.-= Etherealprey’s last blog post… My busy foodie weekend! =-.

I had been using Philosophy HIAJ, but I’m going to switch back to my Aveeno Ultra-Calming Night Cream and Day Lotion. HIAJ is too expensive, and I really saw the difference in my skin with their face washes, not the moisturizers!
I also love the Aveeno DML, CoverGirl LashBlast, and something that I can’t even FIND listed online: L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome eyeliners! I got 4 of them last night . . . They are as creamy and easy to apply as UD 24/7 liners, and the colors are good too! I got the silver, olive green, blue, and violet colors last night. I don’t know how much they’ll cost, as all HIP products last night were $7. Definitely worth checking out!
sarahPUFFY! says
Rimmel’s brow pencil (they’re the only ones I’ve found to make a pigmented, TRUE black brow pencil), and L’oreal Voluminous mascara. Oh, and Maybelline’s Full n Soft. Drugstore HGs for the win!

I really like L’Oreal’s line of Wear Infinite shadows. They’re all SO pretty, and live up to everything L’Oreal claims! Their twist-up Wear Infinite liner SUCKS, though 😉 Neutrogena’s Pore Refining Cleanser ROCKS too, because it deep cleanses, tones, gently exfoliates *and* wards off zits. Love! 😀
Beth says
Here’s some good face and body stuff. Don’t have time to go through the makeup stuff – maybe later!
Clean and Clear SOFT In Shower Facial – this is truly the BEST thing ever to help me wake-up in the morning. I love the Night face cream from the same line.
Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Butter lotion or gel after a day in the sun – moisturizes great, feels and smells wonderful. Also like the Aloe Fresh line for when you are going to be out and about in the heat and humidity – keeps you feeling clean and fresh.

#1, EVER. Johnson’s Melt-Away Stress lotion and Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel. Omigod.. I am in love big time and simply cannot live without them. It’s by far the best lotion of any brand I’ve gotten my hands on- literally melts into your skin. And the baby oil gel? I get wicked bad rashes in the dry winters and one quick application on my legs after showering fixed the awful break outs permanently.
#2, Clean & Clear oil absorbing wipes. I carry them everywhere.

It’s hard to pick one, but I’d have to go with Revlon Colorstay pencil e/l in Black. This is the only eyeliner I have ever totally finished, and then repurchased (mutliple times, lol). I love everything about it. The color (true black), the finish (more like a cream e/l), texture (velvety), application (smooth with no tugging at all), staying power (at least 8 hours), and even removal (comes off super easily with a cream based cleanser or removing oil). There’s even a sharpener on the other end of the pencil. It makes tightlining a lot easier. I think I would cry if Revlon ever dc’ed this.
Karen says
Hi Infinite Kitty,
Holy crap! I think I need that liner. Every one I wear always turns BLUE, so it sounds like a godsend! WANT!

Well, I presume that drugstores sell very different items in the US and here in Europe, but every time I go to US (or who ever I know is going/coming back from there) I stock up on one thing- Burt Bees pomegranate lip balm- I’m totally addicted to it, carry it everywhere with me, and wear it all the time. I’ve tried a lot of balms but this one works magic for me, and although I can understand that it might look silly ordering 7 or 8 tubes at once, I swear I’d pay gold for it!
Oh and since I’ve seen that some drug stores sell O.P.I nail polishes I’d say those too (they cost like crazy here, more than double the price).
cloudburst says
My favourite is Clean & Clear blotting sheets or Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof. I’m going to have to try those wax strips you recommended Karen – I usually use Parissa Sugaring system but those strips sound really convenient!
