These pics are kinda old. They’re from my trip to Kauai last year, aka the vacation where I walked around with cat food in my pockets.
Anyway, I read a story recently about a lost tortie named Holly who walked 200 miles to return to her family, and lately I’ve been obsessed with getting Tabs a tortie sister.
It’s probably not gonna happen (#wishfulthinking), but a cat lady can dream.

It’s such an amazing story! My neighbor from across the street has a tortie girl too. We don’t see her as often as her black-and-white brother (that one is hyperactive), but sometimes Tango makes his typewriter noise watching her climb down the tree 😉
Chelsea says
What an awesome kittycat story! Tortie kitties are so beautiful – a girlfriend has one named Ava that’s very shy, but adorable (she has a grey brother named Sammich).

I have a long haired tortie/tabby mix baby girl who came to us this past summer along with her brother (who very sadly was hit by a car just before Christmas). They were kittens when they showed up and lived alternately between our dog pen (they loved my big dog–he was their protector) and our garden. She is beautiful and so sweet and loving, once we got her tamed down. She occasionally comes inside, but mostly she is still a free spririt who lives outdoors and does not like to be confined. I have a big dog crate with bedding in it for her on the front porch, and that’s her home when the weather is bad. If it’s nice, she’s hanging out on the blanket on the glider on the porch. Hope to eventually get her tamed enough to be able to put her up at night so I won’t worry about the coyotes.
Karen says
Sorry to hear about your tortie/tabby boy, Susan.

Such a sweet kitty. 🙂 My hairdresser took in a stray tortie who soon became a mama. She’s a very nice cat, but I’m still voting for an orange tiger. 🙂 Have you seen the Pendekar Bengals? Love them but, with so many strays needing homes, it would be very hard to justify buying one. Sort of like the Russian Blues. 🙁
Karen says
So I just googled the Pendekar Bengals and WOW. Their marbling is AMAZING. Tabs would so scratch my eyes out in the middle of the night out of pure jealousy.
Kim says
Aren’t they beauties? I think they run about 2 grand a piece, though. We could probably run an SPCA shelter for a month with that kind of cash! Plus, we’d get to keep our eyes. HAHA!
Ruchita says
Aww, what cute pictures and an amazing story! You are wise to keep Tabs an only cat if you think he wouldn’t react well to having a sibling. I’ve learned from experience that some kitties are sensitive to changes in their environment and the stress of bringing in another cat can be tough.
Karen says
Aww… Mingy!!!
Rose says
Awww, the photos reminds me of my Hubby’s (then b-friend) landlord’s kitty that would visit everyday. She lived downstairs and would come say hello after a long day at work and while we made dinner. She was so sweet!
Karen says
Kitty visits after a long day are the best. Tabs used to be like that when he was living out in the wild!
Rose says
Yes I miss that little girl, but I have two Tabbies (boy and girl) that are my babies now. (Don’t tell the human kid.) They’re 14 now and stay inside.
Marla says
Cute, but the picture with the teeth. Ha! Looks ferocious!!
Karen says
They’re for love bites, LOL!

If my husband wasn’t totally allergic to cats – I’d be a cat lady for sure.

Awww such cuties!
My little girl (she’s only four months old) is a tortie with a half & half face! Here’s a picture of her: http://i.imgur.com/KJDN3.jpg?1 and here’s her brother – just because I don’t want him to feel left out! http://i.imgur.com/v1gU0.jpg
They’re shelter kittens, and we’re so glad we got to adopt them and keep them together – we think that if we hadn’t, someone might have adopted her first because she’s so pretty, and split them up – which would have been so sad, because they such a great, loving little duo!
Linda says
We had a tortie when I was growing up. Sweetest girl ever. We could put doll clothes on that cat! She did draw the line at riding in the stroller, though.
But as far as expanding the family…better run that by Tabs first. My Tiger Lily still hasn’t quite forgiven me for adopting Tuxi Tom (a/k/a the Tuxman), a big rowdy adolescent who’d just LOVE to play with her if she’d only humor him!
Sofia says
If you did get Tabs a sister, careful he doesn’t get a nervous jealousy breakdown. True story: my mum once got her cat (after being the queen of the house for 7 years) a brother, and she got so utterly jealous that she developed a bald patch on top of her head (like very balding men) and would not be nice nor purr for the whole year… until the other cat, who was such a sweetie, got hit by a car and died 🙁 .. and then, she got back to her old self.
Tortie looks so sweet!
Heidi says
What beautiful cats! I’d love to expand the family around here, but I don’t think Missy would tolerate it. She goes insane just seeing a cat come near the yard!

I got a super sweet tortie when I lived in Hawaii. So so cute! Tabs needs a tortie partner in crime.
Jen says
I love my sweet tortie kitty, Daisy. She’s frisky, lovable, and very affectionate! Karen, you definitely should consider getting Tabs a buddy. They’ll keep each other company! 🙂
aurora says
Awww I want him/her! very adorable
CynthiaCC says
Torties are the best cats. I’ve had two in my time as a crazy cat lady. So sweet. We just lost our last one a few weeks ago to lung cancer after being with us for 14 years. She looked so much like the second one in your photos. We miss her terribly. Her old buddy, also 14 and an orange tabby, we still have. But he’s our cranky old guy, likes to be brushed in only the exactly right way, doesn’t like the dog, kinda feisty. We love him, but we miss our girl. I’d totally get only torties from now on, because they’re so soft and sweet. Best personalities. Yep. *sniff*
Karen says
Aww, Cynthia. I have a feeling that’s how I’m going to be when Tabs leaves for the rainbow bridge. I think we all get one special kitty in our lives to bond with, and he’s that cat for me.
Laurina says
That tortie is beautiful!
Steph says
I love the second pic!
Cats are so smart, aren’t they? My parents’ cat was actually missing for a week in December, then turned up on their deck like it was no big deal. Ok, that isn’t an amazing story, and I guess he was probably partying all week with his feline friends, but at least he came back!
