Last night — my final evening in San Diego! — I ate dinner at J Wok, an Asian fusion restaurant in the East Village neighborhood.
The menu lists a mysterious dessert called the “J-OMG,” and if you ask the servers for details, the only thing they’ll tell you is that it’s supposed to make you go “OMG” after the first bite.
Of course I had to order it. 🙂
Turns out it’s a flaky pastry with tons of condensed milk, butter, sugar and cinnamon. OMG, indeed!
My eyes totally rolled back after that first bite. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water…

That looks A-MAZING!

It was definitely worthy of parting clouds and heavenly music. I’d eat it again in a heartbeat!

I’d eat it!!

It was frickin’ AMAZING and worth every mile that I’m gonna have to run to burn it all off. I must’ve eaten at least one stick of butter, at the very least.
BTW — been meaning to tell you that your new boots (saw them on your site) are the bomb.com.

There is a similar dessert made in South India – is a flaky fried triangular something that is served with sweetened, milk that has been simmered slowly and thickened..kind of like a thin condensed milk…is yummm..

why do you torture us like this? lol

It looks very similar to a Thai dessert, I believed influenced by Indian culture, where you take pastry dough and cook it on a buttered griddle, then add sugar and condensed milk and fold it over. Now they’ve started adding varieties of toppings to it. I’ve found just a few Thai restaurants that have it but it’s quite simple to make.

it’s totally the sweeted condensed milk! ANYTHING with that in it is undeniably good!! 🙂
