Have you ever done any sort of genealogy research into your background to find out more about where you came from? Tabs actually did some of that this weekend, and what we found was fascinating! — although not altogether a surprise.
Apparently, Tabs comes from a long line of kitty models and entertainers, like his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather cat, Franklin, who starred in one of the very first print ads for feline cosmetics. Catex Claw Polish and Nosetints were all the rage among fashionable felines in the late 1930s and ’40s.
No kidding, but we found evidence of his feline family ties working in the kitty modeling business from the ’20s through the ’70s, but that’s when the trail went dry… It seems that his ancestors got out of kitty modeling for a while, for some reason, and went into the shipping business.
Weird…
I don’t know if you’re into this kind of thing, but if you are, here are some of the vintage kitty modeling advertisements we found. 🙂
Tabs supports the Purina #MyGreatCat campaign
Every time you share a pic or video of your feline employer just being awesome in his/her own way, you’ll be feeding a hungry cat.
For each picture or video you share on your social media channels that includes the hashtag #MyGreatCat from now through August 31, Purina Pro Plan will donate one pound of cat food — up to 50,000 pounds — to hundreds of cat rescue groups nationwide through the Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue network.

These are all great but Catex is my very, very favorite. So clever, who thought of that? And more importantly, who executed it? All the ads are so well-done. Just love it. Kisses to Tabs

That’s definitely not a surprise about Tabs’ ancestry. I know he works hard but he clearly has modeling in his genes. 🙂 Btw, the Mabellcat ad reminds me of the new Manga mascara. Have you seen the commercial yet?

Karen you are so creative! Tabs does look ever so handsome in those ads. Love the vintage style of them. 🙂

LOVE the vintage ads. I sent a copy to my mother (big cat fanatic) and she loved it!
1. Did you watch any World Cup matches? No. But when Italy beat England I had to tease my good friend from Southampton, UK.
2. Do you and your significant other ever talk baby talk or have pet names for each other (honey, sweetums, my liege)? Sweetpea. The both of us.
3. What’s one invention that would revolutionize the beauty industry as we know it? ALL beauty companies would totally and completely ban animal testing for their merchandise-be it makeup or tools (brushes, etc..). THAT would be revolutionary! There’s no reason why with today’s technology that we have to sacrifice a living thing in the name of physical appearance. Diana Vreeland even said “I loathe narcissism, but I approve of vanity.” To think that we’re better than the suffering of another living thing…blecht! Beauty’s only skin deep, but ugly’s to the bone!
4. What’s your favorite kind of tree (oak, willow, ash, spruce)?
Two: Willow is gorgeous for obvious reasons, but I’d have to say the favorites are the fruit bearing trees. The cherry trees in spring…*sigh* gorgeous!
5. What’s your favorite beach, and why do you like it? Presque Isle in Erie, Pennsylvania. Voted one of the top places for sunsets (sunrises are not that shabby either!) and a great place to either go alone, or take your family or have a party or a wedding reception. There are many beaches there, but we always would go to Beach 10 because that is where they fly the kites every year. There’s also local bands playing and lots of community events like runs and such to do and nature lessons and historical about the town too.
