Who is Tabs the Cat?
About seven years ago I befriended a stray, flea-bitten tabby cat with a bad case of worms. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model). -Karen
Dear friends, fans and foodies,
Yes, foodies. As you know, I have many opportunities to sample fine feline cuisine at notable five-star feline friendly restaurants around the world. It’s one of the perks of being a world-renowned kitty supermodel.
And as much as I love a purr-fectly prepared chef’s tasting menu, there’s really nothing quite like enjoying a good meal in the comfort of my home.
On those rare occasions when I do get a bit of downtime, I call on my in-house kitchen staff to prepare my meals. As you can tell by my physique, I love to eat; however, I am not one of those cats who will simply eat anything you put in front of him. I insist that my personal chef only fixes fare that excites my taste buds!
To that end, I typically stick to three-course meals.
I usually like to start with an appetizer — a few treats to warm up my palette — and lately I’ve been loving these Purina Pro Plan Savory Bites. I’ve had the chicken, salmon and the tuna, and all three are delish (but my favorite is the chicken).
For my main dishes, I prefer wet food, sometimes with gravy, sometimes without. It depends on how I’m feeling and whether my nutritionist and trainer are prepping me for a movie role.
The chef outdid herself today. For lunch she prepared a chicken, pasta and spinach entree in gravy that made me lick my whiskers clean. It was utterly divine! When I asked her for the recipe, she said “Purina Pro Plan.”
Since I have grown accustomed to the finer things in life, I insist upon a formal dining setting with fine china and crisp linen table cloths at every meal — you know, the upscale accoutrements that any cat of international acclaim enjoys.
I work hard; I deserve it.
Between meals, to maintain my million-dollar physique (incidentally, I recently had my tum insured with the same company that insures J.Lo’s legs), I like to snack on dry food.
Actually, I like to keep the dry food out throughout the day because I must keep this body and mind fueled and focused on its goals. Eye of the tiger and all that.
When I’m hungry, I can’t concentrate. My assistant and I are similar in that respect.
My dry food of choice these days is Purina Pro Plan Turkey and Rice Formula for indoor cats.
Pure perfection. If you like turkey, get on that.
Ah! I must take my leave now, as I hear my tummy rumbling. Stay fabulous.
XOXO,
Tabs the Cat
P.S. Tell me, my friend, what has your personal chef been preparing for you these days?

Tabs has discriminating tastes. I would expect nothing less from a world famous kitty model. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Chris,
Exactly. He’s not just another furry face. Plus, he has a certain image to uphold. 🙂
Kiss & Make-up says
Dang Karen, even I don’t eat from a plate/bowl that fancy, Tabs is a divah!
Sylirael says
LOL, this was excatly my thought! 😀
Karen says
Haha! Nor do I most of the time. I probably eat sitting on the floor more often than Tabs does, and he’s a cat!
But seriously, this was his special occasion place setting and silverware. He usually eats out of a regular blue and white polka-dotted food bowl when he isn’t working in front of the camera. 🙂

I miss feeding my kitties treats! The twins both have to eat ridiculously expensive prescription food now, since the boy had to be hospitalized because of urinary blockage. It’s a bummer for them and us!
Karen says
Hi Mahdi,
The twins sound lucky to have people who take care of them like you. Are they both from the same litter?

Organza ( age 16 = 80 years old ! ) eats prescription food, ” Senior Consult, stage 2 ” from Royal Canin. Treats ? Euh yes, when I eat tuna or fish or even pasta 🙂
Tabs is obviously younger and besides he is a star :)and the Chef oudoes herself all the time I think ! 😉

My boy Blaow is on Prescription Diet chicken flavor for urinary tract since he had some crystals in his urine. It makes him drink so has a water fountain that he loves. If I open a can of tuna Blaow can hear it from a mile away and comes running, lol. Blaow loves Temptations treats especially tuna and catnip flavor. He also like Friskies party mix crunch.I’m going to get him some of those Prina savory bites!Tabs your looking cute as usual.
Karen says
Hi Denise,
Tabs is the same way when I open a can of anything! I swear, even if I open the can super carefully under a towel to dampen the noise, he can hear it from the other end of the house. The problem is that he can’t tell the difference between the sound of a can of corn and a can of tuna, so he bolts into the kitchen so expectantly every time.
Tabs loves Temptations treats, too, but he hasn’t tried the catnip ones. We’ll have to give those a try one of these days. He definitely loves the turkey.

Tabs, my human is posting this for me. . . You’ve got to try Pure Bites freeze dried chicken breast treats! Mom gets them from Amazon, and they are our favorites. They are packed with the best crinkly brown paper to play in.

Hi Kathy,
I’m typing it into my iPhone grocery list right meow. Thank you for the recommendation. 🙂
Much love,
Tabs

Trixie has been enjoying Science Diet for the Mature Adult Indoor Cat. She occasionally gets a Greenies treat in chicken or seafood flavors if she’s especially hungry and hard working. Overall though, she enjoys looking longingly at anything with hot sauce (particularly pizza). However, the cruel human who lives with her always refuses to share! Poor Trixie…
Karen says
Really? Hot sauce? That’s strange! 🙂 We actually have a few different pepper plants growing outside that Tabs has thoroughly sniffed, but he hasn’t nibbled on any of them yet, as far as I know. I wonder if he will.
Tell Trixie that Tabs says hi!

Jiji’s a fan of his Iams Healthy Naturals dry food. He likes several of the flavors, but right now we have salmon. His favorite treats are Whisker Lickins in Crunchy Tuna, though we buy the other flavors sometimes to change it up!
Quincy’s diet involves a lot of timothy hay by Oxbow, and Kaytee Timothy Complete pellets! Snacks he enjoys are parsley, dandelions and dandelion greens, clover… Yum! For a special treat, he LOVES bananas (seriously, they are like bunny crack! If you need a bunny to like you, give ’em a small chunk of nanners!)
Stephanie says
Mine love Fancy Feast & Purina One dry, Healthy Metabolism. They don’t like turkey or beef. It has to be fish or chicken for them. And they like Friskies Wild Wild West crunchies and Temptations Catnip flavored.
I have one that LOVES asparagus. He will start crying when he smells it cooking.
musical says
Ah, the joys of a perfectly plated meal! Love the catnip garnish, Tabs. Must say that your assistant/personal chef is doing a fantastic job!
tabs says
Hi, musical. Meow! It took a while to train her, but sometimes she does all right. 🙂

Hey Tabs, looking good! This is Freya the Sealpoint Siamese. I like to supplement my regular food with bluebottle flies. That tasty, chewy little protein snack has all the fun of hunting without having to go outside and get wet – what’s not to like??!
BeccaTheCyborg says
Oddly, my otherwise incredibly demanding feline employer, Gatsby, has no interest in treats at all. Though he insists upon investigaing all human food, none has apparently been what my tuxedoed overlord deems good enough. He is, however, passionate about ice cubes. We have to keep a close eye on cocktails around here, even if he’s a dashing Jazz Age sort, he should not try to steal the ice out of our drinks.
Karen says
Hi ! I volunteer for a cat rescue group and I see alot of our adopters use grain free food. I switched my three cats and you can see the difference in their coat, their teeth etc. I bet Tabs would love the blue buffalo grain free ! what cat model wouldn’t want a shinier coat right !?

My cats (Doug-4 and Casey-11) have been eating Iams since they were kittens. I was told by a vet a long time ago to avoid the wet food in the supermarket and give them baby food, specifically Beechnut Chicken, Beef, Turkey or Ham because the ingredients are basically the meat and water. They go bonkers as soon as I pull out their “special bowls”. Doug comes running at the sound of a bag opening, any bag and Casey thinks every jug we pull from the fridge is milk. She circles under it and meows like a lunatic. Oh yeah and both of my cats go bananas for French Fries although they never actually get their paws on them.
