I planted these gerbera daisies last spring, and they grew strong and bright and looked lovely through summer. Now, sadly, they’re saying farewell.
Aww! Glittery tears… Like on Westeros, winter is coming. 🙁
I’m not ready for the cold weather. Are you?!
Donna says
I LOVE fall, but not winter. I don’t like the short days, driving in the snow, or having to put on so many clothes just to go outside for a few minutes. I used to live in Southern California and the weather there was nearly perfect. I did miss the fall foliage, though.

Hi Donna,
SoCal weather is wonderful in the fall and winter months. I could do without the summers, though. It’s too hot for this Bay Area girl!
How long did you live in Southern Cal?
Kiss & Make-up says
🙁 See you next year.
Karen says
I know! *sad face* I’m not ready!
Kim says
Aw, goodbye, sweet daisies. 🙁 I pulled up all my annuals this week, too, because of our first frost. And, of course, since then the temps are hovering around 70.
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Of course that would happen. OF COURSE! Do you plant every plant anything for fall? Or do you just wait until it gets warm again? I’m thinking of doing some cold weather plants for our deck to keep things interesting. Hopefully I can find some cat friendly ones for my boss.
Kim says
I know, right? 🙂 No, I don’t have much of a green thumb so I have a couple of perennial patches in the back and then just the window boxes with annuals in the front (that I put in after Memorial Day when there is not much threat of frost).
I always wished I was someone who loved gardening and had beautiful landscaping year round. Alas, it is not to be. 🙂 I hope you find some great, cold weather options.
Ruchita says
Pretty flowers! I like fall and the changing colors on the trees, but I am not ready for full out winter. Hopefully this year won’t be as bad as the last winter!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Ya know, I’ve never lived in a place that had a full-on fall foliage extravaganza. I’ve visited places where the colors change dramatically (New Jersey and Montana) in the fall and I remember being in awe of the reds, yellows and oranges in the trees. It is super pretty! I wouldn’t mind it so much if it wasn’t so darn cold. 🙂
Happy Friday to you and the kittehs! What’s Mingy and the crew up to this weekend?
Ruchita says
Fall is really beautiful. The worst part of winter is dealing with the snow and having to drive in it, shovel the driveway, etc. But it does make you appreciate the warm weather much more!
It’s been a while, so I think I’m going to bake some cupcakes. I’m not sure why, but Mingy is so curious and watches me when I’m frosting cupcakes. One time I let him have a tiny taste. I think he liked the butter in it. 🙂
TGIF!
Karen says
I can’t even imagine. I can barely handle the rain here in Nor Cal; I’m definitely too wimpy to handle the snow!
Baking sounds like fun. What kind of cupcakes are you thinking of making?
I’ve baked a few times and Tabs is not really interested at all in the process. I think the oven scares him! A can opener is another story. I swear, even when that cat is in deep sleep at the far end of the condo, somehow, someway, his ears miraculously pick up on the sound of a can opener! 🙂
Ruchita says
I’m going with a classic yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting. It’s from one of my favorite baking blogs – Sally’s Baking Addiction. I’m making them for a family gathering tomrrow, but I’ll be doing some taste testing today. 🙂
My cats all know the sound of dry food or “crunchies”. When I get the container out of the pantry I have seen them literally gallop into the kitchen. So funny! 🙂
Karen says
Bookmarking it right now! Because clearly I need more baked goods in my life! 🙂
Do you make the cupcakes and frosting from scratch? I’ve done both scratch and from a box, and it’s always fun either way. Have fun at the family gathering tomorrow and have a second of anything involving chocolate for me.
Oh yes, I know all about the crunchies gallop. Tabs probably doesn’t move as fast as your kitties because of his XXL tum and all (more to love).
Ruchita says
Since I’ve discovered some fun food blogs, I’ve done all my baking from scratch because there are so many weird ingredients in the boxed stuff.
Mingy’s belly swings from side to side when he runs fast. I need to try and get it on video because it is the cutest. Have a great weekend and give Tabs some chin scratches for me. 🙂
Karen says
Nice! I love baking from scratch; it reminds me of chemistry lab. 🙂
The side belly meat sway is the BEST. Especially when you see the flash of orange! Awww! Tabs just stopped into my office to check up on me, and I made sure to give him chin scratches and a big squeeze for ya.
You have a good weekend, too. Take some time to relax (and maybe play with some makeup?).
Alix says
Bring on the cold! I love fall/winter.
Karen says
Hi Alix,
The only thing I like about cold weather is the footwear. Bring on the boots!
Iris says
I’m alright with autumn weather but am looking forward to the ice storms and the temperatures dropping to -30C. 🙁
CL says
In Texas it doesn’t usually begin to get cool until late October, sometimes mid-November. “Summer” temperatures run from about May 1st until the end of September, though we have know temperatures as high as 97 in very late October. People here get *very* tired of hot weather.
