I got the nicest surprise in the mail yesterday — a care package filled with local Hawaii snacks from my friend Fern on Oahu.
She sent quite a few of my favorites, like Passion Orange Drink Mix (YUM), Coconut Pudding Haupia (it’s kind of like coconut Jell-O), Red Coconut Balls and Mauna Loa Macadamia Nuts, and some things I’ve never tried before, which I’m super stoked about. Seriously, I can’t wait to get those Hawaiian Sun Pancake Mixes (Lilikoi Passion Fruit, Pineapple Coconut and Chocolate Macadamia Nut) into my tum! I’m going through a breakfast-for-every-meal-of-the-day phase, and these should totally hit the spot.
There are some non-food-related things in there, too, like yummy-smelling soaps and lotions, a sweet card, a magazine, lip balm, and some drops to keep in the potty for those, um…less-than-fragrant moments when you’re on the throne (it happens to us all). 🙂
THANK YOU, FERN! This was very sweet of you. You made my week.

Yay! I’m spotting some stuff I’ll try to find in Kaua’i! I’m leaving Monday (doing a happy Polynesian dance) 🙂
Karen says
Oh my gosh, have so much fun. Which part of the island are you visiting?
Lulle says
The whole island is the plan! We’ll be camping and moving almost every night, starting with the North coast by Tunnel Beach, then East coast, South and finally a couple days up in a State Park by Waimea Canyon.

Yum! I have tried the pancake mix before! Mmmm. Now I wanna go find some.
Karen says
Oh, now I’m really excited. What did you top them with? Regular maple syrup?
Elena says
I think I paired them with butter and jam. This post made me drool. I came home late last night and was sooo hungry. All I could think was I NEED SNACKS! lol
MizzJ says
Omg this makes me miss Hawaii so much! Haupia is the best. Have you tried taro pancakes? Must have!
Karen says
Hi Mizzj,
I haven’t! Are they purple?
MizzJ says
They are! And slightly sweet. Whenever I’m in Hawaii, I want to eat all the taro things!

The pancake mixes look fabulous! Yum! What a sweet friend to send you some goodies
Karen says
Isn’t she so sweet? I love surprises (especially food related ones, haha).
Have a great Friday, Sally!

Lilikoi Passion Fruit!!!! Those pancakes would be the first thing I tried. Oh man, I love Lilikoi! There used to be a bakery on the road leading to Kilauea Lighthouse on Kauai that made a Lilikoi cake. Yum!!!
Let us know how the soaps from Kula Herbs are.

Ohh this makes me want to re-visit Hawaii so much! I went several years ago, for about 4 days at the end of a long trip, and I was ill the whole time. ?
One day I’ll go back and spend a couple of weeks exploring everywhere!

These packages are great, especially when they come as a surprise.

What a fantastic idea & such a seet idea! I live in the Seattle area & my favorite cousin lives in the Phoenix area…she may be receiving a themed package for Christmas. 😀
Kelly says
Oh my gosh, it all looks so yummy! 🙂 Anything with macadamia nuts is a favorite of mine, and that coconut pudding sounds ahhmazing! While I do live in SoCal, maybe it’s time I go West to take a vacation. My last three have been on the East Coast, yet I’ve never been to Hawaii… 🙁

Hawaii is the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. I haven’t been in years. I really want to take my son there.
That shot of the macadamia nut package gave me a flashback to my childhood. When I was a girl, my grandma went to Hawaii for a convention and someone she was doing business with sent her like a few big cases of macadamia nuts. they were so good but that was like my mother’s answer when I wanted a snack for like a year. And now, I can’t even stand the smell of them. 🙂
