El Hub and I ventured north again today, this time up to Petaluma, which is the town right next door, only about 10 miles away.
But we’d never been there before! What’s up with that? It was time to rectify that situation.
It’s a beautiful area, very rural, with lots of farms and rolling hills and breathtaking views. Antique stores are everywhere! And they have a lovely downtown waterfront with lots of little shops and places to eat.
A great place to walk around (or bring a bike) if you ever make it out to this area. It’s in Sonoma County, which is part of the whole Wine Country area, so you could do a little wine tasting in nearby Napa, or at one of the many wineries in Sonoma itself, and then stop in Petaluma for lunch.
The coolest seed store I’ve ever seen! Literally thousands of things I’d never even heard of before.
Hope you had a great day.

I haven’t been to Petaluma in a very long time. It’s looking quite spruced up in your photos. If I remember correctly, Petaluma is the arm wrestling capital of the US and the home of the ugly dog contest…or it was back in the day. Looks like a fun time 🙂

Petaluma is my home town! My family still lives there and I moved away after high school. Glad you enjoyed your visit!
Karen says
Hi Jen!
It’s a great town. I can’t believe we live in Novato and never went before, but it’s weird, out here we spend so much time driving south on 101 that we forget how many great things are north!

I love Petaluma! They have a great outlet mall too, if you’re into that sort of thing! I just painted my nails Essie Marshmallow and then picked up my computer while they were drying and you are wearing pretty much the same color! Great minds think alike!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
Ooh, what stores do you go to when you visit the outlet mall?
And don’t you just love white nails during the summer? I love how bright they are. Did you paint your toes too? I did a mint shade from Nicole by OPI.

I miss Petaluma!

Definitely looks like a town worth visiting! It’s kind of silly how we tend to overlook the beautiful places that are so close to us huh.

The town looks gorgeous and the shop is the most charming thing ever!
Karen says
Hi Iris,
It is! I could have spent all day in there. I love plants, nurseries and gardening stores. Always have.
I hope your week got off to a great start. 🙂

Hi Karen! I love Petaluma too ! living in the central valley,my sister and I and our hubbys go few times a year. We have favorite stops , many of which are near the seed shop. Places like The Tea Room Cafe, The Petaluma Creamery and my man really likes Lombardi’s for Bar b que. A must stop is Cottage Gardens for their great selection of succulents I love the nurseries in that area and the farmer’s markets! PS- I spent the holiday watching the cute BB players (the A’s) pounding on the Tigers!

Hi Jill,
Thank you for all the recommendations! Now I have a list of things to check out. I can’t believe El Hub and I have neglected Petaluma all this time. It’s weird living in this area because we mostly just go south on 101 and totally forget there’s a lot of cool up stuff up north too.

I live in Petaluma, I grew up in Novato and I didn’t want to move here. But now I can’t imagine living anywhere else. If you have a chance check out Seared restaurant on Petaluma Blvd. it’s across the street from the Pie place in your pictures. Also, Lala’s ice cream is amazing. The last time we were there I had a scoop of lemon and a scoop of coconut. SO good!!
