Guess who just got back from the most random afternoon?!
THIS GIRL.
El Hub and I went to The Village mall in Corte Madera this afternoon to do some shopping. I wanted to pick up a MAC Stolen Moment Extra Dimension Eye Shadow (got it, along with Round Midnight, yay!); he wanted to check out the new Microsoft store, which just opened there today.
Turns out that Microsoft was holding a free Kelly Clarkson concert at the mall to celebrate the grand opening of the store. There were some hoops you had to jump through to get in, but somehow El Hub, resourceful dude that he is, managed to snag us a couple of tickets.
They held the concert in a gravel parking lot across the street from the mall. We got there about an hour before the show started and found a spot pretty close to the stage.
Dude, that girl can SING. Her voice is so crisp and powerful! Definitely one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
She did a mix of new and old music, and my fave song from the performance was a new one called Don’t Rush. Kelly said in the show that it’s a country song, but I think it almost has an R&B feel…
Nicole says
You are such a cutie! Glad you had fun. Kelly is an incredible singer and seems so down to earth!
Karen says
Aww, thanks Nicole. It was really cool to see her live! She’s a great performer.
Hope you’re having a nice weekend so far. What’ve you been up to?
Heidi says
Wow, Kelly Clarkson in Corte Madera…. wild! Saw her in concert a few years ago. She can really, really SING and some of her songs are very cathartic. Walk Away is definitely my jam when men are driving me nuts!
Karen says
It was so random! They held it in the gravel parking lot across the street from Nordies. Give Don’t Rush a listen when you can. It’s very good!

Your husband sounds like an AWESOME dude–there’s not many out there that would be willing to do all that! 🙂

She sang that song on Thursday night during the CMA’s with country icon Vince Gill. She was really excited about that if her Facebook posts were anything to go by. It was beautiful. And her outfit/makeup/nails/hair from that night was flawless.

Love Kelly Clarkson. Still remember when she was first out. Such a success now. Great story.
Chris says
I cannot believe you were that close to her. I have been a fan forever and have seen her 4 times in concert. My seats are never as good as you got for free. I am kind of jealous and hating on you right now. I love her new country song and the new pop one called Catch My Breath. You should check out that one as well. I just ordered her greatest hits CD. Her voice is amazing. And I agree with you. She is the best live. My fav in concert for sure!!
Marla says
That looks like so much fun!
Kiss & Make-up says
Sounds like you had a lot of fun 🙂

That looks awesome! You did some shopping and got to see an awesome concert. I love that song, it sounds pretty good. I am hoping to do some shopping this week – last week I was cooped up because of the hurricane and having a cold.

Kelly Clarkson won “American Idol” a few days after I had my first daughter. Her song from that win, “A Moment Like This” makes me cry every time I hear it, because I think of that precious beautiful time. I will love Kelly Clarkson forever!
Also, you look so cute and skinny in that pic!
Alison says
OMG fun! Isn’t it great when you leave the house and a regular old day becomes something really fabulous?
Kristina says
Funny that at a Windows party almost everyone is capturing it with their iPhones!
Karen says
I know! I tweeted through the whole thing with my iPhone…kinda funny!
Sandy says
I saw her and Vince sing that song on Thursday nites awards show and its is such a beautiful song! She is a fabulous voice! What fun to catch her concert!
Carina says
I love Kelly! Yay for resourceful dudes. Can’t wait for the reviews (you’re writing those, right?)! Have a great week, Karen 🙂

That’s awesome – what a fun surprise of an afternoon!
I love your glasses, by the way! I need some new ones (mine broke in Europe this summer, but I’m waiting for the new fiscal year so that my health insurance covers it – the lenses are fine, but the bows are kind of messed up, so they fall off if I look down, turn, or make any sudden movements).

What a totally random but absolutely cool way to spend an afternoon!
