Sephora Face Masks

No, It’s Not Jason Voorhees. It’s a $6 Face Mask by the Sephora Collection

Hmm… How does one take pics of herself wearing a fabric face mask and still look cute? I’m lookin’ for ideas. If you have any, by all means, please share with the class.

‘Cause I dunno.

Walking around the house looking like Jason Voorhees does have its perks, though, like, it makes doing work at your desk seem less like work, because it’s hard to get stressed while one of these cloth face masks is doing its plumping and hydrating thing.

I’m also that much better prepared to scare away the neighborhood kids when they come a-knockin’ to sell chocolate bars, because THIS LADY DON’T NEED ANOTHER CHOCOLATE BAR, SON.

I checked out these Sephora Collection masks today! The rainbow display was hard to miss.

So, I really like the face masks by SK-II, but clutch my pears! — those things are obscenely expensive ($135). They’re maybe a once-every-two-years thing.

These Sephora masks, on the other hand, are only $6 each, and there are eight.

From the Sephora website

  • Lingzhi Mask: Creates the appearance of smoother, plumper, and younger-looking skin.
  • Lotus Mask: Refreshes tired skin and reduces signs of strain and fatigue.
  • Honey Mask: Nourishes and balances to soothe and refresh dry or sensitive skin.
  • Pearl Mask: Perfects and brightens with natural-origin pearl to create high luminosity.
  • Ginseng Mask: Tones and energizes while providing a tightening effect for a plumped and supple complexion.
  • Green Tea Mask: Mattifies and purifies to soothe skin, absorb sebum, and reduce the appearance of outbreaks.
  • Rose Mask: Provides deep moisture and brightening properties through natural rose extract.
  • Pomegranate Mask: Awakens, energizes, and protects the skin with antioxidant-rich natural pomegranate extract.

I chatted with a friendly Sephora makeup artist in the store, and she mentioned that the Rose Mask was their bestseller, so I grabbed one of those. She also recommended the Honey Mask for straight-up hydration, and since the masks are only $6 each…

Twist my arm, why don’t ya! 🙂

She also said that her personal favorite was the new Lotus Mask for refreshing tired skin, so maybe I’ll try that one next time.

All of them are easy to use. Just open the package, apply to clean, dry skin, and leave it on for 15 minutes. Then remove and gently massage any remaining product into your skin. No need to rinse.

When I got home from Sephora this afternoon, I washed my face and used the Rose Mask.

I was surprised by the amount of product in the fabric, considering that it’s only a $6 mask.

I think the SK-II masks I’ve tried in the past were juicer? — for lack of a better word, but this one is still moderately juicy, LOL!

When I removed the mask today and did a little facial massage, as per the directions, my skin felt a little less dry. I think I also looked less tired and more radiant.

That said, the areas around my mouth and cheeks that were dry before I used the mask were still a tad tight…although a bit better, so maybe this particular mask isn’t as ideally moisturizing as I’d like.

But it’s $6…which is $129 less than the SK-II masks (!).

I’m really looking forward to trying the Honey Mask next. Hopefully that one’s even more moisturizing.

If you’re interested, Sephora has an online-only deal going on now where if you buy four masks, you get a fifth mask free.

Tell me you know about the cheap korean sheet face masks!!! Good to hear that you like these but there are so many good masks for cheap!

  2. Emily says:

Since your on the subject of face masks. Can you recommend any fruit acid face peel or something along that line?

    • Karen says:

      Hi Emily,

I’ve had really great results with lactic acid. My skin LOVES Sunday Riley’s Good Gene’s Treatment, which is both a serum and a face mask. It’s kind of pricey but it (along with Skinceuticals C + E Ferulic) saved my skin. When my skin is acting up those two things help get it balanced again.

  3. Elena says:

I tried the Green tea mask. It was pretty decent. But for $6 a pop, I would pass normally. I think these are way overpriced for simple sheet masks (I just added one on to my order to hit $25, so I could use a promo code haha).

I would recommend trying some Korean/Asian sheet masks! I get some from my local market for abut $2 or so a pop, and the boxes of masks are cheaper. I just like to pick out individual ones to try different “flavors” lol. They are fun and make my skin feel soft. Not sure I buy into the brightening claims on some of them. But they are relaxing!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Elena,

You’re so lucky that you live next to market that sells those masks! Next time I go to Japantown in SF I’ll see if I can find some.

      • Elena says:

I know! Everytime we go I always pick up more masks (even if I am stocked up) because I can’t resist. I started out with My Beauty Diary masks but my local market started carrying a few other brands. I just get sucked in by the cute imagery and packaging!

I have been using sheet masks for awhile and I think it is funny (but smart!) that Sephora jumped on board since Korean beauty and Asian beauty trends are really big now.

I just bought a cute Tony Moly lip balm from Sephora. It’s the cherry lip balm. They also have a peach one and a blueberry one! They are so cute! I would recommend you check them out next time you are shopping at Sephora!

I was looking at those last time I was at Sephora because the packaging was so eye-catching. But I thought they were a little pricey for what they are! And I have so many masks already. But I must say, you do look cute in it!

I love the ones in jars too. They are more cost-effective for one thing. My fave is Radical Skincare Instant Revitalizing Mask with the pop-rocks effect! But for my super dry skin this frigid winter, I’m using two hydrating masks that are similar: Gabriel Seaweed Hydrating Mask and Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask 🙂

  6. I love that the sheet Mask Trend is finally taking over.
They are auch fun to use!

  7. Oh yeah, try the Honey mask! I hope it gives you all the moisture you’re hoping for 🙂

P.S.: Only you can look awesome in a mask.

if you ever come across these, get them: my beauty diary masks. it’s made in taiwan and there’s a whole lotta variations but i love
    – bird’s nest (brightening, hydrating, plumping)
    – imperial bird’s nest (hydrating and smells delicious)
    – red wine (brightening and just smells darn delicious)
    – royal jelly (brightening, plumping, smoothing)

i’m pretty late to the game about these masks; i didn’t believe the hype. i mean, my beauty diary? gimme a break. but i tried it out of curiosity and oh boy oh boy are they good! i’m addicted now.

The display is outstanding. I’m not sure how anyone could pass this and not want to grab one. 🙂 I’ve never tried a cloth-style mask but the chance to run around the house like Jason is oddly appealing. HAHA! But with all my pore tightening, skin plumping and anti-aging needs, I’d have to layer a bunch of masks until I looked like a 2nd grader’s papier-mâché project!

  10. Agata says:

I need to try these and sneak one (or two) into my basket next time I am at Sephora! I need some hydration for my skin!

I buy these Hada Labo Tokyo sheet masks at Ulta that are totally amazeballs. They make my skin all hydrated, dewy, and plump. I get them in a pack of 4 for $15, but they often are a part of BOGO deals or other promotions, and coupons work for them.

I do look kind of scary walking around the house with them though…

  12. Jennifer says:

I have a Sephora Rose mask languishing in one of my makeup drawers. I need to try it out stat if they’re having a mask sale so I can see if I want to stock up.

I’m really in love with every variety of Karuna’s masks though. They make me look 10 years younger. And they have so much product in them. I’m thinking about getting a second mask out of them by poking eye and mouth holes in a paper towel.

  13. YES, I adore these masks and I don’t see them getting much love online! The rose one is my favorite, but I tried the honey recently and liked it too. $6 for a single-use mask seems pricey to me, especially since Tony Moly’s masks are $3 or so, but I keep buying the Sephora ones anyway…

  14. Lulle says:

Wait the SK-II is $135 for ONE mask??
Sephora’s version is better for sure, but value-wise they’re still far from the My Beauty Diary mask packs, which are like $14 for 10. The ones I tried were very good, my favorites from them are the Black Pearl and the Aloe masks.

Ohemgee, no! That would be crazypants. It’s $135 for 10 masks. I do have to say that you can use the individual masks over and over because they come heavily saturated with product. I get 3, sometimes 4 uses out of mine.

  15. Aeris says:

Sadly there isn’t any Sephora in Belgium but these are on my list for my next trip to France!

  16. Iris says:

Thanks for the review and the overview on how to use. Just saw these in store. I may pick one up next time I’m in there. 🙂

I have to try a sheet mask! Maybe I’ll pick one up!

These rainbow collection of masks is drool worthy and at $6 I wouldnt mind if they don’t moisturise enough.. or as much as SK II !! 😉

Honey one sounds perfect for dry skin.. but do you smell any roses in that rose mask?
