Last week at the doctor’s office (I just went for a checkup), my doctor said something that stuck with me. He said that the best thing I can do for my overall health for the next 60 years (hello, wishful thinking!) is to keep exercising.
I like working out…most of the time, and I like it even more when I’m wearing cute nail polish that matches my outfit. 🙂
I swear, I can run faster when I’m wearing cute nail polish.
This tank I’m also wearing is one of my new favorite workout pieces. I got it on sale for $10 (regularly $15) at Old Navy! It’s so soft and feels great, and I love the message.
I can’t seem to find it online right now…but sometimes when that happens they still have things in the stores. I think it’s called the Women’s Go-Dry Tank, and I found it over in the section with all the workout clothes.
I’m wearing it with eye-catching Essie Blossom Dandy from the Flowerista collection, a pastel blue-green with a creamy finish.
I needed three coats to reach full opacity.
Yup, three. I still saw some streaks after two…
If you’re interested, it’s $8.50 and available now online and wherever Essie polishes are sold.
Agata says
I love the message on that shirt and how the letters match The Blossom Dandy. I have had this shade for a while now and I love it! I needed only two coats and had no problems with it looking streaky…But I know that with Essie sometimes even the same shade varies by each bottle.
Karen says
Hi Agata,
Yes! Glad that this worked out for you. Have you been working out lately? I hope that you’re still doing Zumba.
Agata says
I have been trying to work out a little but I cannot do anything that requires any sudden knee movements like twisting/jumping/squatting because of my knee injury. So, no I haven’t been able to do Zumba since the injury and it’s really depressing :-/
Remi says
.. $8.50 is a lot for something that requires 3 coats (that color tho, omg i need it.)
Karen says
Hi Remi,
You could probably get away with doing two coats. I’m a weirdo perfectionist so I did three, LOL!
I hope that you had a nice Monday. 🙂
Kwmechelle says
Totally here for that tee. Didn’t work out but once while I was on vacay but I’m looking forward to getting back into it. I enjoy working out, too- most times anyway. 😉 I’m especially fond of yoga, which I try to do 2-3 times per week. Our nails are almost twinsies as I’m rocking a very similar shade. I don’t know the name, though, since I went to the salon to get it done. Making a trip to Old Navy to look for more workout gear very soon 🙂
Karen says
I just finished working out and totally thought of you when Janet Jackson’s Escapade came up on my playlist. Do you remember that song? I haven’t heard it in years and it is SO good.
Happy Monday to you! I hope that you’ve been relaxing at home. I bet it must be nice to be back after being on the road for so long.
Kwmechelle says
YES TO JANET JACKSON’S ESCAPADE! And, ironically enough, I just finished working out, too. Kinda makes me do a happy dance that that song made you think of me 🙂 I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things. Think I rested up last week so I feel more like myself this week. For some reason, I can’t seem to get into running, even though I want that tee. But I do walk about 3-4 miles on the treadmill several days a week. Still determined to learn how to run, if that makes sense? A coach wanted me to run track when I was in high school bc I had speed & my legs were long. But, if nothing else, I’ll find that tee & at least look like a runner. Like a bad a$$ runner. Tehehehehe 😉
Karen says
I also listened to Together Again from The Velvet Rope and You Want This from Janet. Seriously, I was singing on the treadmill! Tomorrow Rhythm Nation is one the list!
I totally get what you’re saying. I think running is a skill that can be learned. It helps to want to do it; it’ll keep you going when it gets challenging (and it will). When I started I had to start small; I could run a mile, but that was about it. Then I started doing one and a half miles, part running, part walking. Then I slowly built up from there. I’ve been doing it since I was in college so now it feels as natural as breathing; it took a long time though. I did a quick search and found a beginner’s plan from Runner’s World, a magazine I subscribed to few years ago.

There’s a ton of beginning runner’s programs out there. You should probably chat with your doc about one before you get started! That always helps.
Oh, and one thing I learned the hard way: get the right type of shoe. Go to a running store and have them evaluate how you run. The right shoe makes all the difference.
I’m always here if you ever have any running questions! 😀 I’m not a hard core runner but I do enjoy it very much.

I might have to make a trip to Old Navy to scope out their workout tops! That is such a cute tank. And totally motivating! You could even do an ombre effect with a pale yellow or a deeper turquoise.
Karen says
Hi Ashleigh,
I was there on Saturday and there were still plenty of tops! I hope that your nearby store has them. They’re wonderful and affordable too. I do find that with Old Navy cotton tops (especially ones that aren’t very thick) I have to treat them carefully. Wash them on delicates and then air dry. Otherwise I end up with holes in like a month! But with careful treatment they last a while.
Anywho, great idea to try an ombre effect. 🙂
I hope that you had a great Monday and that your week is off to a good start. Anything exciting happening this week?
Ashleigh says
Hi Karen,
Thanks for the tips. I also wash my Target tees on gentle because they too seem to get holes and tears if not taken care of gently. I guess you get what you pay for!
Thanks, I did! I actually got to go rock climbing on an indoor wall last night, so that was fun. I’m also seeing the Avengers tonight. My arms and back are pretty sore, so I’m going to take it easy today! Hope you’re having a great week too! I always look forward to reading through your blog. 😀

Hmmm, I’m sticking with Chanel Mediteranee – one coat got me full coverage! Of course I did not have the workout top to match but paws along with a money-green tee might look a bit too grabby$$.
I am sure the Doc would love to hear you’re doing some light weights too for that great bone density!
My mantra is not quite the following but I gotta love the pluck to it!
“Oh, to be seventy again!”
Georges Clemenceau, former President of France, said to a friend on his 80th birthday as he watched a young belle femme pass him by on the Champs-Élysées.
You know what the song says about “older women” . . .
Karen says
I love that color too. Now if only I had a Mediterranean vacay to go with it, ha!
Dude! Do you lift weights? GO YOU!
Alison M says
I *must* feel good about what I’m wearing if I’m going to work out. My current favorite tank was a TJ Maxx find and says, “I feel prettiest when I sweat.” Yep. I haven’t tried matching my nails to my workout gear, but naturally I’d love to have trainers/running shoes in a variety of colors 😉
Karen says
What a cute top! I need one like that one in my life.
Try the nails sometime soon. I swear you will sweat harder!

I love this whole post, Karen! Yes to 60 more years! 😀

Wow, I can’t stop thinking about what your doctor said. Need to get my act together pronto!

I didn’t really need more workout clothes but I couldn’t resist and grabbed this top (and 2 others) due to this post. Ladies, it is online with a 30% off code currently

Yes! 60 more! At least! Regular exercise is sooo important. As is cute nail polish, obviously.

Oooooo good nail color! I’m wearing that Essie shade right now!!

Great advice your doctor gave you. We need you around for at least another 60 years to keep up our daily dose of beauty and the virtual cup of tea in times of need.
