Please forgive my wackadoo chipped thumbnail (the remnants of last week’s mani with Nicole By OPI Yoga Then Yogurt), but I was way too excited to not share this pic of the strawberry paleta, which is like a Mexican fruit popsicle, I had yesterday.
Normally I would have creatively positioned my fingers so as to hide that but…
Anywho! I wanted to get that sweet treat in my belly ASAP!!!
It was my first paleta ever, and I think it’s safe to say that it won’t be my last.
It was SO FRICKIN’ GOOD! This one was strawberry, which was more like strawberries and cream.
Oh, the chunks of fresh strawberries, the sweet cream…
Oops! I just drooled a little, LOL!
I got it at a local ice cream shop in downtown Novato called La Michoacana. They have dozens of flavors of paletas and different ice creams (things like tequila, spicy pineapple, pine nut, and more traditional flavors too).
If you ever make it out this way and your sweet tooth says, “Woman! FEED ME SWEETS!” check it out.

Ooh, that looks so good! I will have to make a trek to Marin County soon, I’ll be sure to check this shop out!
Karen says
Definitely. It’s right in the midst of downtown Novato. You can have lunch at Rustic Bakery and then walk down to grab a paleta or two. 😀

I live smack dab in the city of Chicago and when the weather gets warm we have lovely paleta vendors who roam our streets with their pushcarts. Plus—get this–we live less than a block from one of the storefront factories and you can walk in and get a dozen for $10. The even give you a little block of dry ice to make sure you get it home unmelted. Oh the flavors! We each have our own favorites and woe to the person who eats the paleta that you were saving in the freezer. Nothing is better, except perhaps the truck filled with watermelons for sale that parks 1 block the other direction. Gosh, I love my city!
Karen says
That sounds amazing, Darinka! I would love to visit Chicago someday.

I was amused to see there is a Michoacana in your hometown! If you ever visit Mexico, you will find A LOT of Michoacanas – these paletas and ice cream shops are everywhere; some sell better tasting paletas than others, but all of them have the same cute doll logo, which is supposed to be a typical costume of women in the state of Michoacan. A shop close to where I work sells a yummy one of strawberries and cream too, but they put all the strawberries in the center, so you get this delicious looking white treat with strawberry red center :)!
