Just a Cat Lady Friday

Published in: Daily Photo

I have come to accept — nay, embrace — that I am a cat lady through and through. It’s a fact. There’s no denying it.

But sometimes something happens to make me fully realize the true extent of my cat lady-ness, like this afternoon when I was walking around downtown Petaluma with my family taking pics of every cat-related thing I saw.

My in-laws are visiting this weekend, and El Hub and I took them sightseeing around Petaluma, which is a cool rural town about 15 minutes north of here in Sonoma County.

I kept running into cat-related things at different stores downtown, like that framed black and white pic of a lady with a cat on her shoulder (the pic at the top). I saw it in an antique store, and I dunno…it just moved me, maybe because Tabs does the exact same thing — drapes himself over my right shoulder.

I wonder about the lady and her cat. Who were they? They must’ve had a very special bond to arrange for someone to come out and photograph them together, because back in the day it wasn’t like all you had to do was ask your friend to snap a pic with her iPhone. It took work!

I bet this kitty was the woman’s once-in-a-lifetime special cat.

What do you think the cat’s name was? He looks like a Fritz to me for some reason. 🙂

I also found a lot of cat stuff in a thrift shop called Pick of the Litter in Petaluma dedicated to helping local feral cats. Some of these next pics are from there this afternoon.

Awwwww….thanks for sharing the nice cat pictures from lovely Petaluma!

  2. I prefer cats, too, but somehow feel I lack true cat lady potential. maybe this is because I have been living without a cat for more than 12 years now.

Such cute kitties! My mum’s Siamese used to ride around on her shoulders as she tried to go about doing the house work, he was totally devoted to her.

Next time you’re in Petaluma check out Our Best Friends pet shop. It’s on 2nd Street, she has some very cute things:

Also, on Kentucky St there is a framing shop and the owners have their Siamese cats roaming free in there. They are very friendly and walk right up to customers. If you sit down on the couch, the cats will come sit with you. They have cat condo’s and beds everywhere, it’s very cool.

And lastly, you have to try a bear claw from Bovine Bakery, also on Kentucky. It’s across from McNear’s, near the parking lot on Kentucky St.

Before hubby and I got married we moved to Petaluma. I moved from Novato and him from Rohnert Park and I was hesitant to move here. Now I love it and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. I love the small town feel of it.

I want to go to Petaluma!

I wasn’t a day person until we got our first cat, Gomez (RIP buddy). I grew up with large dogs. I am a full blown feline enthusiast now. I still love dogs, but have become massively allergic to them (which doesn’t stop me from hugging them). And, as you know, I’m also a bunny person.

I love the crazy cat lady musings!!

  7. Is it possible to be a crazy cat lady without actually having a cat? Because I think I am.

I drape my cat over my shoulders like that ALL THE TIME. I love holding him like that. Feeling that warm weight in your arms is the best.

Cool photos. I used to live up north, but never went to Petaluma. I think that woman’s cat is Pyewacket, like the Siamese cat in Bell, Book and Candle.

That looks like a neat little store. Did you buy anything?

  11. Can I have all of these? 😉
