Yes, this is a bootylicious unicorn flying through the night sky with hearts coming out of its butt.
And yes, it looks like he got that rainbow tattoo at a discount tattoo place…and the tattoo artist was drunk.
Here’s my latest work of art! I did it at a really fun painting event in San Francisco last night with my friend Marisol.
It’s called Paint Nite, and they hold it at different restaurants all the time. You sign up online, and I think Marisol had a Groupon sort of deal where it was $49 for the both of us.
Basically, it’s a painting class with food and wine and a bunch of people in a restaurant. Everyone starts off with a blank canvas, so it’s not paint by numbers. You do use a pre-selected painting, though, which you pick when you sign up, as your template.
There’s also an art teacher who walks you through the how-tos, but you’re free to interpret your painting however you want.
My template was also of a flying unicorn… I don’t know why I keep calling him a he, but he initially had stars trailing out of his butt, and the script said, “Believe in yourself,” but I decided to go rogue and do my own thing.
The stars just weren’t working for me.
Did I mention that you can order food and wine? — so you can get your drank on while you paint? The paint isn’t stinky, so it doesn’t interfere with your drinking and eating experience.
It was a lot of fun, and I’d totally do it again! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

We just did something similar called Paint and Pour in Ann Arbor for a fundraiser for Project HEAL! We painted butterflies (symbol of eating disorder recovery) often with some sort of affirmation, and our teachers were great! Singing and dancing, even! I used to paint a lot in high school, I think I might try getting into it again.
I love your unicorn! I love unicorns and rainbows and space, this is perfect.
Karen says
The music takes it to the next level. 🙂 We had pop music playing in the background, which made it even more fun (I sang along of course).
Do you still have your butterfly painting? Did you hang it up? My unicorn is currently in my office, LOL!

we have one of these that’s BYOW, and I went with my mom last spring… we only got to paint boring flowers tho, your sorta tubby (in a good way!!) unicorn is amazing!! 🙂
Karen says
Ooh! BYOW would totally take it to the next level. I had so much fun. I can’t wait to do it again.
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh my god I love it, so much better than a vase of flowers or a fruit basket, haha! You did well!
Karen says
Space unicorns 4 eva!
Becca says
I’ve done paint nite too, here in MN! Mine was not a kick ass chubby space unicorn though!
Karen says
LOL, Becca! What did you guys paint?
Chris25 says
I think this is cute! I’ll look around and see if there is anything like this in my city.
Karen says
Hope you can find one!
Ruchita says
Food, wine and painting sounds pretty awesome! That is the cutest little unicorn. 🙂
Karen says
The only thing that would’ve made it better is dessert. They had no sweets on the menu! FOR SHAME!
Speaking of sweets, my mom is coming over tomorrow and she’s bringing a homemade apple pie. ?
Ruchita says
Yes, if there’s food and wine, desserts are a must! I love apple pie, especially with some vanilla ice cream. Pie crust isn’t something I’ve been able to master yet. I’ll have to do some experimenting for Thanksgiving this year.
LindaLibraLoca says
I slay! I love Marisa’s painting.
Karen says
Best positive affirmation ever!

It sounds like loads of fun, Karen! And I love your unicorn! My son and I used to go to a ceramics-painting place with another family. That was lots of fun, too, but you didn’t get to see what your creation really looked like until after they fired it. We still use a fruit bowl I painted. It looks like an amateur painted it, but I’m OK with that — I’m an amateur when it comes to painting on anything but skin!
Karen says
Hi Fran,
Haha, me too. During the entire class I kept wishing I had my makeup brushes with me…
I’m sorry if I’ve asked you this before, but how old is your son?
Fran says
Karen, it’s hard to believe, but he’s 25 now! So we were painting ceramics almost twenty years ago… it sure doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. Time never goes so fast until you start raising a child… whatever it is that’s going on in the moment, before you know it, it’s gone. Makes you realize how important it is to be present for your own life… it would be so easy to miss something while being preoccupied with the other worries of adulthood.
Jessica says
HAHAHA yay for painting! Good for you. I love your adorable unicorn!
Those paint nite things are popular here too, but I have never been to one. I’m not really interested because I have a fully stocked painting studio in my apartment and a wine fridge, too!
Karen says
That’s awesome! Wish I had a fully stocked painting studio.
Jessica says
I do rather love my Brush Farm. So do my cats. 🙂
Amber says
I love your chubby unicorn and your message!
I had never heard of this — just signed up to do one on my birthday in a few weeks! SO EXCITED!
