WARNING: Scroll no further, and do not look at any more of these pics, if you are currently so hungry that you could eat a stack of Post-Its.
Not kidding. I’m serious.
OK…if you read any further, don’t say I didn’t warn ya. 🙂
These are pics from the Signature Tea service at The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus SF right down where the action is in Union Square, and it’ll put the rumbly in that tumbly.
Oh, boy… I can’t even look at these pics without wishing I was there right now stuffing my face with tiny sandwiches, cakes and cookies the size of my thumb.
Little better than than Strawberry Pop-Tarts I’m having for breakfast right now! (Although sometimes a Pop-Tart really hits the spot, I can’t lie.)
I met some friends there last week, Arianne from The Glitter Geek blog, her baby daughter Sarah and my buddy Marisol.
The Signature Tea service is a wonderful way to take a break from shopping for a few hours if you’re ever visiting the city with friends. It costs $45 for ample ambience, a pot of tea for each person (chosen from among a wide variety of flavors) and savory sandwiches, sweets, scones and fruit for noms.
Everyone has a different nom-eating strategy, but I started with the savory sandwiches (the sliced cucumber ones with cream cheese were my favorite, followed closely by the egg salad), then moved on to the scones (which I doused in lemon curd), before finishing with the sweets, which included a gingerbread cookie that made me feel like I was melting into my chair…
SO GOOD.
Of course, the tea was delectable, too. I ordered the vanilla decaf black, and it perfectly paired with the snacks.
If you go, I recommend making reservations first, just in case it’s a busy day, and asking for one of the tables with a view of Union Square.
It just kicks the experience up a notch.
I think it would be a fun experience for a girls’ day, or maybe a mom and daughter day. Maybe next time you’re in SF?
By the way, I nominate Sarah, my friend Arianne’s baby girl, for the Best Baby Hair award of 2015.
Look at all that luxurious hair! And can you believe she’s only three months old?? That faux-hawk is natural, too. There’s absolutely no product in it.
Clearly, this child has shampoo commercials in her future. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Everything looks fantastic. I have done a High Tea before at Bellagio in Las Vegas and it was wonderful!!!
Baby Sarah is absolutely adorable and all of you ladies look beautiful!
Karen says
I didn’t know the Bellagio had high tea. Definitely going to put that on my list of things to do if I ever go back to Vegas. Forget about gambling, I want to have high tea, LOL!
Sara says
I should have listened and not kept scrolling. Now I’m hungry and I just ate lunch haha Everything looks so wonderful!
Karen says
There’s always room for tiny little sandwiches and little cakes, even after lunch! At least that’s what I like to tell myself. 🙂
Jane says
That does look yummy. Many years ago, when I was still working in finance in NYC, my team-leader did a high tea meeting for all the ladies on the team. She had the meeting at Saks (a woman after my own heart). I was starving, so it hit the spot. I remember the tea sandwiches like it was yesterday. I think Saks is my favorite high-end store and I miss the one in the city. The stores in the suburbs are too modern. You’re looking good.
Karen says
Hi Jane,
I like shopping at Saks too. Wish the one in SF had high tea! I don’t think they even have an espresso bar or anything.
I will say this about the stores in the suburbs… At least you can find parking! LOL!
Hope that you’re having a nice Thursday so far. What are you up to? I just got back from a doctor’s appointment for Baby Girl. I now have a lovely ultrasound picture of her knee, calf and foot. 🙂

I thought you’d gone again, at first, and was going to be doubly jealous. 🙂 Luckily I was eating my Chobani Key Lime Flip so I was safe to scroll. Have you tried those, btw? I’m not a big fan of Key Lime Pie (or really graham crackers/white chocolate chips) but it’s by far my favorite Flip.
PS I’ll trade you all my sweets for your sandwiches. 🙂
Karen says
I haven’t tried that one! I’ve only had the basic, boring flavors (so lame). I’ve had key lime yogurt though in the past and remember really liking it. Maybe it’s the tartness? (I almost just wrote “tarteness” as in “tarte”, haha!)
P.S. I will happily take your sweets. Here, have my roast beef sandwich!!
Kim says
Awesome – we make a good High Tea Team. 🙂 That’s funny about “tarte”. If that was the case, I’d have to say the yogurt “is made with only the purest key limes to awaken 7000% more of your taste buds”. 😉
Kiss & Make-up says
I cannot believe I still haven’t done a high tea! I mean, it SOOOOOOOOO is something for me! We just dinner, but seriously, put this stuff in front of me now and I shall eat it all.
Karen says
You gotta do it! So fun!
Ruchita says
How fun! I just ate lunch, but I’m still drooling over those pics. All the food looks delicious! I love a good cup of tea and and fancy eats. Did they have clotted cream for the scones? I had it once when I visited London. The name is kind of icky, but it tastes good! 🙂
Karen says
Yes! There was a tray of accoutrements to put on the scones and there was lemon curd, cream and jam. Gah, I’m craving some right now. Have you ever made scones? I’ve never tried it. I’m a fan of eating them, though, especially when they’re warm and I have something like tea or coffee.
Ruchita says
I made scones once, years ago, but now I want to try them again! A cup of tea, scones and a good book sound like the perfect way to relax on a cold fall day. I’ll let you know if I find a good recipe!
LindaLibraLoca says
I love tea, I love scones, I love cookies, but I never had high tea! I must right this wrong asap.
Tatiana says
Oh man! Everything looks so yummy! I need to eat lunch now! And Sarah is such and adorable baby! You’re looking good. You barely look like you’re showing in that outfit. I’m off to scrounge some leftovers for lunch.
Suzanne says
My mom and I have a tradition of going to tea whenever we’re on a family vacation- so much fun! Really, any excuse to eat lemon curd and tiny sandwiches is at the top of my fun list. I think our favorite was in Savannah. I hadn’t been much of a hot tea drinker before that trip, but now I have an embarassingly large kitchen drawer packed with various teas.
Rachel R. says
I’ve never done high tea. I always wanted to try, but people always act like I’m a nut when I talk about it. I live in the land of coffee.

That baby is sooo cute! And the food looks delicious.

A few years ago my husband and I were watching The Best Thing I Ever Ate on the Food Network. Tyler Florence said the best seafood louie salad he ever ate was at the Rotunda. So last year in December we had lunch there. It was amazing, they give you a ridiculous amount of crab and giant shrimp. Everyone gets a fresh steaming popover. We also had gingerbread cake in rum sauce for dessert. It’s tough to get a reservation in December. We waited for a table in the bar area and got lucky. It’s so pretty during the holidays, everything is decorated and they have a giant Christmas tree in the middle of the rotunda.
Christina says
Gahhh! I was there yesterday, and we almost ate lunch there, but ended up being too hungry for our late reservation. (so we ended up eating at the Hyatt Regency at the Embarcadero) We will have to still try the place at NM, since it looks so good! I was hoping that new Sephora at Powell would be open, but not yet. Oh well, I will be back! 🙂

I’ve never find high tea! What rock have I been living under?! So, for my birthday month next month I plan to celebrate for the ENTIRE. MONTH! I’m currently planning my festivities now. High tea will most def go on the list. And you look awesome. Which is a MAJOR feat to accomplish next to that cute baby. I’m currently snuggling with an adorable three month old now. Nothing better than cuddling with a baby. I’m sure you can’t wait! Hugs!!

Speaking of Tea, TJ’s has this Well Rested tea that just knocks me out. Anything with Passionflower in it makes super drowsy. You should try it, it’s caffeine free.
Arianne says
Sarah is so totally pleased to appear in this blog! LOL. Love that you got a shot of her in her fancy-lady-at-high-tea cardigan. She looks like she was eyeing the tower of tea snacks here. 🙂
We hope we can be back in SF soon, but if you and Baby Girl find yourselves in Toronto, we would love to show you around!
Rhia says
I try to do a high tea every once in a while. I’ve had it at The Rotunda before. Loved it!
