I have a serious Vitamin Water Zero addiction, and by “addiction,” I mean that I could easily chug three or four bottles every day.
They’re just so darned tasty!
But I’ve also been trying to cut back a little on processed and packaged foods and drinks lately because I recently realized (again, because I re-realize this all the time) that I feel really good when I eat more of what my husband calls “rabbit food” — lots of veggies, fruit and not a lot of processed carbs and pre-made schtuff.
We’ll see how long the phase lasts this time, ’cause it’s all fun and games until someone opens a jar of Nutella…
Anywho, in my latest attempt to curb my Vitamin Water Zero addiction/habit, I’ve been making improv fruit infused water at home.
Why? Because it’s easy and delicious. 🙂
This time I used some gigantic strawberries I found at Trader Joe’s and some little oranges from my orange tree.
Chop, chop, chop into thin slices…
Then plop the slices into a pitcher and fill with water.
Let that chill in the fridge for a few hours, and voila! — water infused with the flavors of yo’ fruit!
Give it a try sometime. I highly recommend strawberry and orange, and cucumber and lemon/lime.
Ooh! And Grapefruit and pomegranate’s also delish.

I always have a pitcher of lemon water in the fridge – sometimes even with soda streamed water. But hey Why not try other fruits 🙂 Thanks for the tip

You’re welcome, Petra! Have a wonderful day!

Cucumber and lime is my favorite in summer. Or Lime and Mint.
Delicious on a hot summer day!
Karen says
Ooh, those sound yummy! I will try the lime and mint. 🙂 Thank you!

NEED! Looks like the perfect virus killer.
Karen says
YES! A fabulous vitamin and anti-oxidant delivery system. And you can nom-nom-nom on the fruit while you’re drinking the water, which is the best part!

I buy a live mint plant at the beginning of the summer, and cut sprigs to infuse my water with all summer long.
Yum!
On another note – where did you find that adorable pitcher? I’ve been looking for a tall and skinny one like that…
Karen says
Hi Karen,
The pitchers are by Takeya. Here’s a link: Takeya Airtight Drink Maker Pitcher.
Karen says
Thanks so much, Karen! I see they make infusion filters, too. Awesome!

Okay, I’m still stuck on the fact that you have an orange tree in your backyard. I’m so jelly. You know what I have in my backyard? Snow, like two acres of snow and dog droppings.
I love fruit in my water but I can’t stand the way those commercial fruit waters taste. They just taste really artificial to me. I’d rather have a plain bottle of water.
Karen says
It’s that time of year in California. The citrus trees are going off! I guess I will just have to send you some virtual sunshine. 🙂
Kim says
I’m so glad you found another use for your oranges! And, speaking of Nutella, I thought of you at Sam’s Club last week when they had one side of an aisle 4-way loaded with Nutella-to-go cups. 🙂
Karen says
Well that sounds like my dream come true!
Want to know something not so surprising? I used to walk around with Nutella to-go in my purse. YOU JUST NEVER KNOW. The urge could strike anytime, at any place. One must always be prepared.
Do the kids like Nutella?
Kim says
Oh, I remember! Cat treats and Nutella-to-go were some of your purse staples. 🙂
The boys liked it but preferred to eat it from a spoon, instead of as a spread. Who can blame them, really?
And, we have some exciting news. Their hockey team came in first place in Sectionals and will be headed to the State Tournament in the Buffalo area in a couple of weeks. Kind of a big deal for our little town. They’re just first year players so it’s not like they carried the load, but they did well. 🙂
Karen says
WOW! Congrats to the kids! This is VERY EXCITING. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that they can take it all the way. Will you be a chaperone on the trip?
Happy Wednesday!
Kim says
Thanks! And Happy Wednesday to you, too! 🙂
Yes, it’s youth hockey so the parents cart the kids to everything. Our team (under 12) and our organization’s U14 team both made it, so we’ll have a 20-car train of families shuffling off to Buffalo (Amherst, really). It’s about a 6.5 hour drive. Making memories! 🙂

I’m weird, I really like drinking plain water and always have. I am not a huge fan of flavored waters. I also can’t do carbonation (I find carbonated beverages physically painful) or caffeine (heart condition). I’m very boring!
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
Yeah, rabbit food ROCKS! I had some for breakfast as a matter of fact and I’m feeling good. 🙂
I like drinking plain water too, but I like that this is a fun way to mix things up.
Anywho, have you ever noticed that bottled waters taste different? I like Aquafina and Arrowhead myself.
Have a nice Tuesday!

This post reminds me that I should really drink more water. But all I keep thinking is, “I wish I had an orange tree growing in my back yard!” ☺️

I love my fruits and I eat my vegetables. If I get lazy and do not want to chew on them, then I just make a smoothie with my favorite blender. I use it so much that I believe everyone should this blender. See the post why you need it in your life on my blog.
Aeris says
That looks yummy! I only put some lemon slices in my sparkling water in summer! I’ll defiinitly try this as soon as fresh fruits are available (and not “fresh” fruits grown in a greenhouse with lots of chemical help).
Erin says
I love lemon and cucumber but I always forget!
Pamela Haddad says
I am going to try those combinations as they sound delicious! I usually put blueberries in my water and I love the flavor of the water and the berries just get sweeter as the day goes on.

I just saw a recipe for homemade Nutella today! Going to have to make some this weekend for sure. =)

That strawberry to orange ratio is amazing!! I’m with you on eating fresh. When I get home from my weekly grocery shopping trip I split fresh veggies (carrots, grape tomatoes, and sugarsnap peas) into enough portion sized containers for Mr. M and I to each grab one as a daily snack to bring to work. I skipped it last week. Can you guess what happened to my skin O.O I love the idea of adding fruit to water! My local bluemercury always has cucumber lime water at their brand parties. Super refreshing!
Karen says
Hi Alison,
That’s such a good idea! I need to get into the habit of meal prep. When I make the effort I definitely eat healthier!
Happy Wednesday!
Lancy says
Karen, the water looks super delicious! 🙂 I shall definitely try this soon! And I totally agree with your ‘rabbit diet’ concept! I feel a lot more good when I have veggies ditching junk food and other greasy food items!
Tina says
Ok, where did you get the little pitcher?
Karen says
Hi Tina,
It’s by Takeya. Here’s a link: Takeya Airtight Drink Maker Pitcher.

I enjoy vitamin water over cold drinks but nothing can beat this homemade delicious vitamin water!!
Just one looks at this fruit filled water makes me thirsty .. I gotta make one for me tomorrow and enjoy it for the rest of the day !! 🙂
Gloria says
Karen, do you add sugar?? I can’t really imagine it without sugar, but… It is good to go sugar-free. I want to cup my coffee… will try this this week!!!
Thanks for the advice.

I just got that pitcher for my birthday! It’s by Takeya and you can use it to brew loose leaf tea! How awesome. I’m not sure if your model is different but I’m gonna try infusing water with sliced fruit too. I didn’t think to use it like that!
