My tomato plants have finally…tomato-ized!
Meet the first small batch of the season. I’ve named these three Tyler, Artemis and Carnegie, and I’m still deciding whether they’re going to become bruschetta or Tuscan bread salad.
The struggle is real, homie. It truly is.
Garden fresh tomatoes, babe — if you haven’t gone there before, you need to get on that ASAP. They’re so much tastier than store-bought. I think it’s because they get to fully ripen on the vine, so there’s no transportation time. Don’t be surprised if your eyes roll back in your head when you take a bite.
Now I need to go get some good bread…
SO HUNGRY!

The beginning of spring was hellishly cold and sad, so our first tomatoes are not quite grown yet. I’m SO jealous.

Gorgeousness! Being in Minnesota my tomatoes are not nearly ready, but your yummy pictures are giving me hope (and hunger pangs)!

Gah! There are so many things I want to say about homegrown tomatoes I don’t know where to start. I think this comment is going to turn into a blog post for me. Thanks for the inspo my friend 🙂
First of all, great shots.
Second of all, I’m so jelly. I’ve got tomatoes planted in my garden but since I’m on the chilly Maine coast, it’s going to be, oh, September likely, possibly late August, before I have any.
Also, because it never gets very hot here, our tomatoes aren’t as spectacular as they could be. You really need a good dose of heat to grow a good tomato. To combat this problem, I plant several Sun Golds, you know the tiny pop them in your mouth ones, because the big slicing tomatoes are a struggle with our temps.
Do you plant anything around your tomato plants to help keep bugs away? Usually I do nasturtiums, which then also go into the salad, but I’m behind planting those this summer. I sincerely hope that you’ve planted basil near the tomato plants if you’ve gone to the trouble of growing your own tomatoes!
Finally, I vote for bruschetta.
Enjoy!

Bruschetta. I vote bruschetta.
Those are some perfect names for perfect tomatoes!

I planted tomatoes too the year, but it is still a little early for the first harvest.

Wow Karen you got skills girl! Your tomatoes look delicious

NICE! They are really beautiful. (and, I love your tiled table, makes the perfect backdrop)
We are in NJ so we have tomatoes but only the “green frying kind” LOL. We’ll give it a little time…nothing beats a good Jersey tomatoe. LOL
What is this TUscan Bread salad of which you speak? I thought you just buy Tuscan bread and eat your bruschetta with it. LOL
Majick says
*tomato (I couldn’t figure out how to edit. LOL)

I have soooooo much jealousy right now! I have cherry, roma, and regular tomato plants growing, but no tomatoes. Yet. Hoping to have some soon!!! Enjoy, they look delicious!!!

Yummy! They look so perfect and red and juicy! What variety are you growing? I’m kinda jealous. Every time I try to grow tomatoes some critter comes along and eats them all before they get ripe. This year that critter gnawed all my cilantro down to the roots overnight. Grr. Enjoy!

I’m in awe! After our terrible endless winter, I wasn’t able to put the tomatoes in until the beginning of June and they are hardly growing at all. And now my neighbor’s tree that has grown to hang over my yard, it dropping yellow leaves with black spot. I give up! My first year without a decent veggie garden 🙁 Yours look perfect!

Om nom nom those look delicious! I love summer tomatoes.

I have a terrible rat problem in my yard and they keep stealing tomatoes before they even turn orange! I read that mint may deter them, so I will risk having mint grow like weeds if it means I can have tomatoes! (And I guess a mint drink cause I’ll have SO MUCH!)
Who knew rats loved tomatoes so much?

I don’t remember the last time I meditated… I definitely need to start doing that more!
