#truth: It’s not as easy to find real-deal Asian food up here in Marin County as it is in San Francisco or the East Bay.
For the most part, the prevailing word is bland. Not bad, necessarily, but not the stuff you dream about at night.
Every once in a while, though, I stumble on something really good.
Like this place I went to last weekend with El Hub, Yu Shang Pho in San Rafael. Ooooh, gurl! — I can’t stop thinking about that bowl of soup…
The broth, OMG! The broth… It was So. Damn. Good! I don’t have the most refined palette in the world, but with this soup (I ordered the chicken broth without the meat), even I could taste the layers.
I’ve been totally craving a bowl all week.
If you’re ever out this way and get a craving for a good bowl of pho, check out Yu Shang Pho in San Rafael. It’s triple F-caliber food: flavorful, fast and friendly service.

I’m not craving too much at the moment, but that looks good!
Erin says
Is it bad that’s I’ve already made a list of places to try for Pho when I get back to the US?
Karen says
Absolutely not. It makes perfect sense! Pho is phab. 🙂
Musical says

Yay you went! So good!!! Saigon who??

Martha Nelson says
man! now I’m craving that soup! (I thought you were vegetarian)
Kiss & Make-up says
It looks very oily…
Cindy KC says
It’s pho…
Kiss & Make-up says
I have no idea what that means… I swear I don’t live under a rock 😉
Karen says
It’s not really that oily, but it kind of depends on the protein in it. The one I had was meatless but in a chicken broth, so it was about as oily as, say, chicken noodle soup would be.
It’s salty and really, really yummy, especially on a chilly day.

I know what you mean about the lack of “real” asian food north of the bridge. If you ever craving good chinese, and are willing to drive a little north, Lily Kai in Petaluma is very good. It is close to the 116.
Karen says
Thanks for the rec, Cindy. I’ve been meaning to investigate the food scene in Petaluma for a while. I’ve heard some really good things about the food up there.
Alison M says
I don’t know that I’ve ver had authentic Asian food before, but of course I would love to! That soup looks absolutely perfect right now as my spring allergies are making me miserable!
Vineetha says

Love the food trucks too. Saw a cool food truck the other day called “What the Pho?” Lol!
Natalye says
This looks sooo good! I might need to get some of this this weekend!
Tracy says
That’s hilarious because I texted my husband yesterday about finding some Pho ASAP as I was looking at the 6 feet of snow outside my window.
Sylirael says
