I had this open-faced sandwich with a chickpea spread for lunch at Rustic Bakery in Novato yesterday, and that whole top veggie action was dayum good.
Served with a side of pureed artichoke soup, and I washed it down with iced tea.
Those are kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, chives and sprouts on top of the sammy.
The chickpea spread was interestingly tasty. Not quite as smooth as hummus. More chunky and a little citrusy (Meyer lemon, I think), with lots of fresh herbs.
It was nice and filling, which is great because I’m always hungry.
I’m going to try to reverse engineer the sandwich at home, so wish me luck. I’ll need it, because my taste buds, like my vision, ain’t all that.
But I make up for it with my freakishly strong sense of smell! Seriously, if you ever need someone to let you know if your neighbor six doors down is baking brownies, I’m your gal. 🙂

It’s *really* lucky I just had lunch, or I would totally be raiding the fridge after seeing those glorious pics! We have hummus in there somewhere… 😀

I love it when you post food pictures. That looks like such a yummy (and pretty!) lunch. Let us know if you end up recreating it! My eyesight is also terrible, but I have a really sensitive sense of smell, too. It must make up for the poor eyesight! I drive my husband crazy sometimes with “babe, is something burning?”

Normally I’m all about the meat option but this looks amazing. If you keep posting yummy looking stuff like this, you might turn me into a vegetarian! OK, well, maybe a part-time one. 🙂

You always make me so hungry!! I can’t pick out flavors in a recipe either, but like you I have a sense of smell that is way over the top. My most recent recreate food need came from a food truck… BLT on a cheddar herb waffle with jam aioli. So good. It’s a good thing you chronicle awesome food with photos to help narrow down what goes in 🙂
