I’ve been advised by well-meaning friends and family members to refrain from buying too many baby outfits and clothes, despite the powerful urge, because clothes are usually what friends and family end up gifting ya…and everything ends up with poop and spit-up on it anyway, buuuuuuut Carter’s was having an online sale last week (it might still be going on), and when I saw these cute clothes — gah! — I couldn’t resist.
I just want a few newborn baby pics of BG (Baby Girl) wearing things that I picked out for her, since I know there will come a time in the not-too-distant future when she’ll refuse to let me dress her.
*Tears* I know, I’m getting ahead of myself… All I can say is that I’m extra hormonal, and the thought of her eventually not needing her mommy’s help is making me weepy. 🙁
Anyways, thanks to the gals who recommended these baby gowns with the elastic at the bottom. I never knew such a thing existed, and I think they’ll come in really handy for middle-of-the-night changes.
Carter’s also had matching hats, mittens and teeny, tiny baby socks (!), so of course I had to go there…
I also got BG a few of these one-piece outfits with snaps (Carter’s calls them “Sleep and Plays”) because they were the babiest of the baby clothes, LOL!
Yes, the baby outfits that look like baby-sized versions of grownup clothing are cute and all, but I also want her to look like an actual…ya know…baby, for as long as possible.
If she cooperates (and if Tabs allows her to share the spotlight), maybe she’ll even star in a few Outfit of the Day posts. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. I’m sorry that I haven’t been posting as much as usual this week, but I’ve been extra tired and achy (my back and my lady parts, especially!). This whole growing a tiny human thing is pretty exhausting…
Lauren says
Oh these are precious!! The elastic bands will be a life saver!!
Karen, I’m 37, still ask my Mom her opinion on clothes when I get to see her, and need her more than ever! <3. BG will ALWAYS need her Mommy.
I'm so sorry about the aches ad hormones. You probably want to hit me when you readbthis, but these are very healthy signs. Xoxo

Everything is so cute! My favorite is the pink pjs with polka dots and elephants. You’d be surprised how many times a day you change a baby’s clothes. I think you can have too much dressy stuff, but never too many jammies, ones, and basic knit tops and pants. Those dressing gowns are great for when you’re waking up every two hours during the night. Who wants to fiddle with pj snaps at 2 am?

*onesies, not “ones”

Ohh..do take breaks often..it’s great that u post daily.. we won’t mind if u can only post a few times a week also..
I did’nt know that baby gowns existed!
I love one piece body suits for my 6month old daughter too..she looks so cute in them.. ahh..it’s such fun to have a daughter! 🙂
Take care!

I love the one piece suits with the buttons at the bottom, there is no way you want to completely undress your child in the middle of the night for a diaper change! And I agree with you on the smaller versions of adult clothing: Not only do I want my baby boy to look like a baby boy, but they are horrible to put on. They aren’t very cooperative when getting dressed…
Little Bean, about to turn two in February, already starts voicing her opinion on her choice of clothes and wants to put them on “Alleine” (which translates to myself best I think). She can already don her boots and jacket, hat and scarf by herself, and my heart breaks when I see her growing up so quickly!

Depending on the season, I used GroBags at night. You can get them in different sizes and thicknesses to take into account the season and they were a godsend. My boy used to never end up under the covers, so the GroBags zip all the way up with armholes and keep everything warm.
Claudia says
I used the sleep and plays with snaps for my son. My hub preferred the ones with zippers which I didn’t like. I don’t know how cold it gets where you live but in Dallas I had to put socks on my little one’s feet even with the sleep and plays or he would cry because he was cold especially when changing diapers.. I only realized it after about 2 weeks ?. Old navy’s baby socks are great and thick and stay on skinny newborn legs!

The outfits you picked are really cute, I bet she will look adorable wearing them!
Sorry you haven’t been feeling very well. Hugs!

T’awwww, look at the cute rompers 🙂 And don’t worry about posting a little less, I’m sure everyone understands that you’re feeling pretty exhausted right now!

There is no such thing as too many onesies or sleep sacks! 🙂 You won’t want to do laundry all the time and these things are awesome. My boys lived in onesies for about 18 months. They had some cute, little outfits for “special occasions” but we didn’t get out too much when they were small and the onesies were comfy for them and convenient for us. You’ll love them! The fellas were never keen on the sleep sacks but I know a lot of babies who liked them a lot. Can’t wait to see BG modeling all her outfits of the day! 🙂 PS I’m sorry to hear about your aches. It’s physically and emotionally draining. There is a bright side, though. It’s not 100 degrees and humid right now, thankfully. You picked a good time of year to be in the home stretch! 🙂

What cute clothes! Baby Girl is going to look so adorable. Sorry you’re not feeling well. Hopefully Tabs is taking good care of you! 🙂

Oh Karen, you’re never too old to need your mother! Baby Girl will always need you, just in different ways as she grows up. I wish you continuing health as your time draws near. In a little over two months, there’ll be a brand new person in your life!

I took part in the Carters sale, too! I love their stuff, so girly and fun! I’m glad that you’re having fun with shopping, because we all know pregnancy is NOT all fun and games… I was pregnant last year, and man, the aches and pains in the weirdest places!! Kudos to you for continuing to provide all of us fans with new posts and pictures!

All the outfits are so cute. Please don’t apologize for not posting a lot. This is the time for you to get your rest before your baby girl arrives. How exciting!! We are waiting for “snowmageddon” on the East Coast. Take care.

Karen I think you’re doing a great job! Your blog is still my favourite must-read everyday but BG and the family will always be top priority. If that means a little less for your followers to read everyday, then that’s a good enough reason for me. Rest up and feel better. Soon you won’t feel like you have any time or energy for anything!
LeAnn James says
I LOVE sleep and plays! My baby will be 2 in a few months and it kills me that his pj’s don’t have little footies on them anymore 🙁
Jennifer says
First, those teeny, tiny baby clothes are totes adorbs. And you’re laughing about choosing her outfits now, but seriously, the baby year is probably all the time you’re going to get on outfit choice. Michael was choosing his outfits before he was 3. And sad to say, since he’s an artist like his father, he was putting together really stylish looks that I never would have come up with on my own.
Second, Rest, Puulleeeeze. Your adoring fans will work with whatever posting schedule you can manage. We all want you to have a good birth experience and being rested is a priority.
My biggest regret in having Michael is that I worked nearly up until his birth. It was too much. In fact, I was going to work until my water broke but my blood pressure was skyrocketing so my midwives made me stop early, even though, as a journalist, I’m sitting more than half of the time. The first few days I was off I slept for 20 hours a day, waking only for a snack and a potty break. It was really crazy.

My nieces were in the terry cloth sleep and plays all the time. They totally loved them. I’m not sure anyone told you but when you wash the little socks and mittens put them in a mesh bag. I’ve had plenty of friends whose washer and dryer broke and the repair man came only to discover the little socks and mittens got sucked into the drain and clogged it.
Sometimes I wonder about putting the little socks on Tulips paws (just 2) so she won’t scratch her face.

You’re making good choices and getting good advice. The cute dress-up type clothes that you get at showers are nice, but you will use the easy inexpensive stuff a lot more. The one-piece PJs and long gowns will be perfect for a newborn. Footed PJs are good for infants that can’t keep socks on their skinny feet. I also recommend that you get lots of receiving blankets – the thin, smaller blankets that come in packages of 3. They are good for swaddling, which many newborns like, and they double as burp cloths, coverage when you’re nursing, diaper change pads… the list is endless. Also, ditto on the mesh bags for socks.
I understand on your aches and pains. I had problems with sciatica and hip tendons. If you can, try to get in a pool or just a tub large enough you can float. It’s a huge relief and really helped me in the last few weeks. I used to say – God helps you not be scared of labor – by the time it’s over you just want the baby out so badly you don’t care what you have to do to get there!

Aw, baby clothes! Looking forward to OOTDs featuring BG.

I couldn’t have resisted those either! I loved the elastic gowns when out of it in the middle of the night.

BG will be styling! And comfortable, I always feel bad when babies are in itchy little outfits that are fancier.
I always buy baby hats for shower gifts. Gotta do my part for sun protection!

Those little sleep sack things are so helpful for diaper changes!

Karen, I assume you’ve been preparing Tabs for the arrival?
Just a few tips which are worth repeating, for everyone’s sake, esp. BG this is from experience, as we had 5 cats when my daughter was born
Keep Tabs nails well trimmed
Slowly introduce Tabs to her, first with her scent on her used clothing
Always be aware that cats love to get on soft, warm items, like laps, etc., so keep baby’s door closed when she’s sleeping so that Tabs does not go in there and want to cuddle her by sitting on her.
Sadly, that’s how the old wives tale started about cats and you_know_what.
Do expose your angel more to Tabs when she is at least a couple months old so that she develops contact and does not become allergic to animals later on. It really worked well with my daughter.
Just keep a good eye out when baby gets older and starts crawling and stuff, as she will grab kitty, pull tail, etc., as babies don’t know any better, and kitties can swat or scratch.
Best of luck and feel better!
Alexandra says
I wouldn’t get too many newborn sizes. Purely because they don’t stay in them long. Especially if she is a big baby. Get 0.3 months instead 🙂
Tatiana says
I wouldn’t worry too much about Baby Girl not needing you. They stuff they need you for changes, but in some way they always need you. My BG is 22 and is a fabulous dresser, so I rely on her for fashion advice. This week she had a hard week at work, so yesterday I took her out to dinner for her favorite Singaporean food. We talked about work, clothes, makeup, movies, etc. Then she came over to the house and I gave her a shoulder and back rub and we watched some TV together. Not quite helpless like an infant, but she did need the comfort.
You picked out some really cute outfits there. Baby Girl is going to be the best dressed infant in town.
Hope you can find a way to get comfortable these last few weeks. I remember my hips were killing me the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy. Made it so hard to walk. Take care of yourself.

MY Mom dressed me in Carter baby clothes way back when…there is nothing better! xoxo

Love the cute clothes! We love Carters. The best place to buy Carters stuff is Kohls during a 30% off sale. You get 30% off and they’re already marked down then earn Kohl’s cash you can use on your next purchase. We go crazy on baby clothes there.

I love dressing my 5 month old daughter in carters .. She has a ridiculous amount of baby clothes (I didn’t listen to others about not buying too much ?)
Most of their clothes are comfy and soft .. For some reason she was never the type of baby to like the gowns or get swaddled, but all babies are different. Have fun washing and organizing all of BG’s stuff ?
I truly enjoyed “nesting” .. It made me feel so ready to meet my little love.

So, so, SO cute! The tiny pink bows on the cupcake onesie are so sweet!
Can’t wait for BG to debut these on the,er, catwalk (no offense to Tabs — maybe he can rock a feline onesie with her).
Mitzi says
Omg, these are so adorable – I especially love the pink one with the elephant and the cupcake one! Going to have to hop over to the Carter website to see what they have, as a friend is due in a few months too. Another baby clothes brand I love is Little Me – my son lived in those and Carter’s. There’s a cute little monkey footie I was considering buying (the little feet coverings are just so dang cute lol)

I empathize with you on the joys and aches of carrying a little one – in the last trimester my son suddenly felt like he gained 5 pounds and I wasn’t a happy camper at that point. Just wanted him to be born NOW. Still, wouldn’t have missed all those months carrying him for the world.
Renee says
Adorbs! She’s gonna be the best dressed babe on the block! 🙂 Please take care of yourself, I’m sure you must be utterly exhausted!
Ciara says
So stinking cute!!! Love all of your selections for BG. She’s going to be styling and profiling upon her arrival. I love the quality of Carter’s baby clothes. I always choose them for shower gifts. Can’t go wrong that way!!! Please post when you can, we totally understand that BG and your rest need to come first.
Arianne says
So cute!!! The terry cloth ones — now I’m gonna sound like a bad mom — are great for absorbing spit-up and drool. LOL. They are like bibs + sleepers at the same time. 🙂
I love that coral and white striped gown. So adorbs!
Hopefully you’ll get relief soon. Have you made your pad-sicles yet? You can use them now for your lady parts. It feels really nice. It’s funny that I don’t even remember how much pain I was in, I just remember it hurt. Hopefully BG makes an appearance right on time and not want to swim around longer than your 40 weeks.
