One thing I’ve learned through photography is how beautiful everyday things can be.
This is a fruit called calamansi (kah-lah-mon-see) picked from my dad’s garden at home. It’s a sour citrus native to the Philippines and commonly used to flavor food and drinks.
I think it tastes like a cross between a lime and an orange. When they’re ripe, like they are here, don’t they look like tiny tangerines? So cute!

Yay! Calamansi! :3
When I was younger, my grandparents would make me the calamansi equivalent of lemonade since we had a giant bush growing in our backyard and I would always call it “calamansi-ade”. Apparently, the correct term is “calamansi nip”…. I guess that sounds better 😀

Ah, fruit of my childhood… kalamansi! When my parents moved to Texas, they tried sooo hard to grow one, but the heat is a killer. Great pics!

Do they sell Calamansi in the States? Unfortunately, they’re not available here in Canada. We can’t even import them in :(.
I had Calamansi juice for the first time when I went back to the Philippines last month, it was delicious!

@ dani… a friend of my mom sends us kalamansi from California. So sorry to hear that it’s not available there in Canada.
@ Karen… thanks so much for the pretty photo and for featuring our beloved native citrus fruit – calamansi. I love it but I doubt it that it’s available here in the East Coast. I used the (sweet-sour) juice to cook my yummy Pinoy Bistek (Filipino Beef steak). And mind you, some Pinays use the calamansi juice as whitening agent as wel. 😉

So uplifting! Will look at this photo tomorrow instead of coffee 🙂

I need to get a new camera so I can take awesome pix like this but I just can’t decide what to get! I keep reading reviews but it’s really important to me to get a good camera that will take quality pix without having to give my first born to pay for it!
What type of camera do you use, Karen?

Oh they look so cute and so yummy!
But I never try this fruit.
Nice pics!

There are so many fruits and vegetables that I’ve never tasted! What a shame!

I’ve never heard of this fruit before, but I live through winter with tangerines. 😀 Love your photos, Karen!

I loooooooove calamansi…do they sell the juice in bottles at some stores? I feel like I’ve seen it before. Nothing like having them fresh, though. I like it mixed with soy sauce and oil on steak. I also like it mixed with bagoong (I have no idea if I spelled that right!) Beautiful pictures, Karen!
