My dad found this cleaning out the house last weekend! It’s an old Beastie Boys tape that I gave to my little brother for his birthday when he was in middle school. That year he also got Soundgarden’s Superunkown, making me officially the coolest older sister ever.

I loved that Soundgarden album when I was in 8th grade… so funny how music was my whole world back then and now I barely listen to any at all.
I remember buying a Matchbox 20 cassette tape in 1998. Good times.
Sometimes I can’t believe that 1998 was 14 years ago. It feels like it was yesterday.
I think the last cassette tape I bought was The Breeders “Last Splash”, but the last car I owned (it was a 2007/8 or so Acura) actually had a cassette player and a CD player. I used to listen to my iPod via a cassette tape adapter.
I have that tape too! I haven’t listened to it in years though. I no longer have a casette player so I couldn’t anyway.

Cassettes?! I love it. I had to explain the 8 track to a young relative. His response, “Why didn’t you download the song?” That comment led to a larger discussion about the rapid change in how we communicate. He was shocked to hear that when I was in junior high, I didn’t have a cell phone! It was a fun talk, but made me feel old
