Did somebody accidentally turn on my hot tub time machine? ‘Cause, dude! — these Too Faced Melted Metal Lipsticks are taking me back to 1996…
I was wearing big hoop earrings almost every single day while wearing out my Missy Elliott Supa Dupa Fly CD (I still remember the first time I heard The Rain; boom, mind blown), and I never left the house without metallic violet lipstick on my lips either.
Yes, I wore a dark plum lip liner with ’em. I’d trace around the edges of my lips with the liner, and I NEVER BLENDED IT INTO THE LIPSTICK.
So tragic.
All I have to say is thank goodness selfies weren’t a thing back then. 🙂
These Too Faced Melted Metals ($21 each) are liquid lipsticks with a metallic finish and a wear time of 2-3 hours. They came out earlier this spring in eight shades and are now part of the permanent collection. Just squeeze the tube, and liquid lipstick comes out of the angled sponge tip. Then apply directly to lips.
These actually feel like thin, non-sticky glosses to me, because they’re so lightweight, smooth and “wet.” You know how with some liquid lipsticks, after you’ve been wearing then for a few minutes, they take on sort of a dry finish? Well, these don’t. They stay slick the whole time.
They also taste and smell a little like buttery sugar (or sugary butter), but when I smack my lips together, I also detect faint notes of plastic…
It’s not strong, though, and as long as I don’t overthink it, I don’t mind. Plus, with tastes and scents, one gal’s plastic is another girl’s Dulce de Leche.
Mostly, I’m pleasantly surprised by how easy these are to wear in comparison to the metallic lipsticks I wore in the ’90s. Those left me with some deep emotional scars, and now when I think of metallic lipsticks, I automatically assume they’ll settle into my lip lines, look hella crazy, and make my lips feel dry and uncomfortable.
But these have a metallic shimmer that’s pretty chill. I can definitely see the shine in there, but it’s not, like, “HEY! LOOK AT MY METALLIC ROBOT LIPS FROM 1996!”
They’re very wearable and should not trigger bad ’90s flashbacks. 🙂 Hallelujah!
I should also mention that my regularly dry lips do require extra moisturizing when I wear these, so I prep first with a separate hydrating lip balm.
If you’re curious about the Too Faced Melted Metal Liquified Metallic Lipsticks, give ’em a kiss next time you visit your local Too Faced counter or toofaced.com.

“One’s gal’s plastic is another one’s Dulche de Leche”- lol, that’s me takeaway from this post! JK!
I really like these, I saw them at Ulta and I tried Bunny on and I loved the color but I agree, it was a little drying so I didn’t end up getting it…

The metallic finish isn’t for me. This collection does have some pretty colors though.

I have this in Dream House, and I do like it. To me, the regular Too Faced Melteds are more pigmented, longer-wearing, and less drying. So, in addition to applying a bit of moisturizing lip balm with SPF, I lined and filled in my lips with an OCC lip pencil in Hoochie before applying Dream House yesterday, and the result was beautiful, comfortable, and long-wearing. The sheen is pretty subtle. I got compliments all day long.

I prefer it matte, but Jelly is the best color

That whole post made me smile. I kept expecting to see a pic of your 1996 look, though. Dark plum, unblended liner was absolutely a thing. 🙂 And Happy Friday, my friend! I haven’t been able to stop by as often as I’d like but I’m definitely thinking of you and hope you’re enjoying some beautiful weather!

I read “Missy Elliot” and nearly lost my da-yum mind. Dark vampy lips with liner unblended was my jam circa 1996. I’m with you, dude. Good thing selfies weren’t a thing back then. I still haven’t purchased one of the regular Melteds bc I’m completely indecisive. From the sound of things, though, I think I’d prefer that formula as opposed to the metallic formula. If there’s a regular Melted that you think I MUST try, then inquiring minds wanna know!
I get to the Too Faced display at Ulta or Sephora & I’m all like, “duuuh, I dunno, Fred (Flinstone, of course). There’s just tooooo many choices!” (in my best Barney Rubble voice) The metallics intrigue me but I think I’ll skip ’em. Any more choices of liquid lippies from this brand and my makeup loving mind is gonna explode. =)

Aah, I’ve been putting off getting these because I can’t afford to spend so much on a lipstick. But frosts, metallics, and bold colours are exactly my kind of thing, so I’m going to have to splurge on one. Tutu and Jelly look just beautiful!

I just bought Jelly and Macaroon at Ulta today…I can’t wait to try them!

I got these in Peony, Jelly and Violet. I’m wearing Peony today. Soooo beautiful. I don’t find them drying, though they aren’t moisturizing at all, either.

I am yet to try the metallic ones , I have not been too happy about the price tag though …
