Sephora VIB Adventures…

Published in: Daily Beauty

Have you hit up the Sephora VIB sale? (It’s ongoing through Nov. 10 for VIB members) When I tried jumping online yesterday morning, I couldn’t get through. I guess the site was overwhelmed, so I ended up driving to the Sephora store down the street here in Novato.

What transpired was probably the least exciting Sephora VIB trip ever recorded in the history of womankind, because all I mostly did was stock up on my staples and the products I use all the time…

I also wanted to pick up another bottle of Laura Mercier Flawless Fluide Foundation in Chai, but they were totally and completely out.

The splurge for the trip was the T3 BodyWaver 1.75″ Professional Curling Iron, which is designed for loose waves and volume, which I like, but I haven’t tried it yet (it gets mixed reviews, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed). I’ll let you know…

My hair has hit that point where it refuses to cooperate unless I actually, ya know, do stuff to it.

I’d been saving up for something to reward myself for the Nike Half Marathon. Every time I exercise I put a couple dollars away that I can use later on whatever I want — makeup, shoes, cupcakes, pet adoptions. It keeps me motivated.

Doopdadoo, just stocking up on mah staples…

I haven’t shopped the sale yet but I am going to Sephora on Monday. I need to get my hands on the Laura Mercier foundation. I also need to repurchase a few things.

I can’t wait to hear about that new curling iron, I hope it doesn’t disappoint!

Haha no shame in stocking up! That couple of dollars thing is really smart, I might have to give it a go!
I went a little cray at the sale on the night they had the Rouge event… I bought:
-Benefit Porefessional (homegirl’s got pores for DAYS)
-Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light (see above)
-Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon (because of reasons)
-Nars lipgloss in Orgasm (sooooo pretteh)
-Nars lipgloss in Corsica (from holiday, it’s the PERFECT MLBB gloss for me)
-Nars lipgloss in Soleil D’Orient (because…continuity?)
-Stila Smudgestick in Mint Julep (winter=pastels)
-Anastasia Dipbrow in Dark Brown (the ONLY thing that works on my brows!)
-Dior Rosy Glow Blush (wasn’t on my list, but the SA applied it to me and I was sold)
-NARS Audacious lipstick in Liv (looks like such a pretty vampy color!)

Phew. What? Problem? I have no problem. I can stop whenever I want!

    P.S. TGIF to you too!

What a fun shopping session, Estefania! Have you worn any of your new pieces yet?

      • Estefania says:

I have! haha I couldn’t wait. I’m actually exchanging my Hourglass powder tomorrow because the lid snapped on me.. now it makes a weird clacking sound. Hourglass Icon is amazing!

BTW, have you tried the Dior Star foundation? The SA at the event applied it on my skin and it was amazeballs!

        • Lorraine says:

I am right there with you on the Dior Star wagon. I haven’t worn a foundation this comfortable since my beloved Shiseido Compact Foundation was discontinued. At the end of the day, I am usually SO ready to take my “face” off. But Dior Star is so comfortable, I sometimes forget I am wearing it, and have to remind myself to go wash it off! Oily and combo skin will love it- and SPF, too!

  3. Joni says:

Hi karen, glad you got some things you needed! The site issue was a bummer, took me an hour to get in! I ended up getting the Naked basics 2 palette, benefit gimme brow, urban decay perversion mascara, and the sephora vip pass eyeshadow palette.

  4. It’s the prefect time to stockpile Karen! 😀 Hope that T3 works out for you!

Hi, Karen. I can’t wait for your review on T3 BodyWaver. Currently I use T3 SinglePass Twirl. I had to chuckle at what you said about your hair refusing to cooperate unless do stuff to eat. it I mean.

  7. Vanessa C says:

TGIF Karen! I’m planning on hitting Sephora after work today and test out the Laura Mercier Flawless Fluide Foundation!! Fingers crossed they have my color in stock. Or maybe some other serum foundation. You’re review coerced me to try LM! If not, I’ll def purchase it online and use eBates for some cash back… (Do you use eBates? This year alone, I’ve collected over $200 cash back by using their website to shop on my favorite websites!)

I’m also interested in picking up amika Switch Kit™ Starter Set Curling Wand. I’ve had my eye on the T3 brand but can’t bring myself to spend so much on the T3 Whirl Trio Interchangeable Styling Wand.
And of course, I have to restock on some favorites: Anastasia Dip Brow and Brow Wiz, Nars Radiant Concealer and some Rosebud Salve!

Keep your paws crossed for me!
    xxxo, Vanessa

    • Karen says:

      Hi Vanessa,

I hope you like Flawless Fluide. Do you have a Beauty Blender? It helps to make the finish look more airbrushed and natural. Otherwise, it can look very matte and almost stark.

If you don’t have a Beauty Blender, you can mist a Kabuki brush with MAC Fix+; that works too.

As for eBates, I haven’t tried it. It sounds addictive, though!

Have fun shopping, and let me know if you end up getting the LM foundation. 🙂

      • Vanessa C says:

I do have a BB! You just reminded me to pick up a new one; my nail teared it this morning LOL

Here’s a referral link to sign up for eBates:

It surely is addictive lol. Before the Hubs buys anything, I scream “check eBates!”

I’ll keep you posted on the LM foundation 🙂

        • Vanessa C says:

Reporting back! I tried the LM Fluide in Chai and LOVED it upon application: it was the perfect color, set perfectly and applied like a dream. I did my flash test and I looked so ghostly! I finished my full face with blush and bronzer, and even dusted some CoverFX setting powder all over, but was still picking up the white cast 🙁

I ended up exchanging it for my HG MUFE HD foundation. I may go back to try it once more, in another color…

Thanks for the recommendation. I see why you love it so much!

          xxxo, Vanessa

  8. Barb says:

Hi Karen. Yup, I went today during lunch and shopped. Needed some new foundation. At the absolute end of my It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation and picked up the bareMinerals Bare Skin in Bare Shell 02. I also got the brush to use and picked up another tube of my all time favorite mascare Too Faced Better Than Sex!

Hoping I like this foundation. I really want to. I’ll let you know.

    • Karen says:

      Hey Barb,

Can’t wait to hear what you think of it! Not that I need to get addicted to another foundation, but it’s nice to have options. 🙂

How was the store? Was it busy? When I went yesterday it was packed!

      • Barb says:

Thanks Karen, I’ll let you know. The store was crowded but the checkout line went smoothly. I could spend hours in there, along with a ton of money!

Enjoy your weekend and give Tabs an extra belly rub 🙂

  9. I’ve been wanting to try that Smashbox primer! I made it my mission to try all pore minimizing primers our there, lol.

  10. Ashleigh says:

That’s a pretty exciting haul to me! Let us know how the curler works out.
I did end up getting the Josie Maran watercolor eyeshadow, I went with the Rose Gold after all thinking it would go best with my complexion, but I might still pick up the pink one if I fall in love with this formula ^_^ Thanks for the review on it!
I also picked up the Kat Von D Monarch palette, since every time I go to Sephora I end up swatching and lusting over it, and I know I’ll get good use out of it.
I also picked up a YSL lipstick I’ve been wanting forever (more of a summer shade- Peach Passion) but the 20% discount finally convinced me to pick it up, and I know I probably wont’ find YSL discounted this good anywhere else…
I also picked up a Too Faced lippie (Bumbleberry- perfect for fall) and a MUFE eyeshadow brush. I will have to see how that does, it cost more than the rest of my brush collection combined, haha, but I’ve been wanting to invest in nicer brushes for awhile. Super excited for my haul! I ordered online Wed night before the website blackout, since I had already picked out my items and the code worked I went ahead and ordered them.

  11. Kylie says:

I actually just placed my order now! I kept it reasonable:
    1. MUFE Mat Velvet Plus in Warm Ivory. Hands down my favorite foundation of all time, and my tube is running low. Replaced Tarte’s Amazonian Clay, which is sad because I love how natural Tarte is, but MUFE is far superior at a) not letting dry spots show b) covering redness.
    2. Buxom Dolly High Roller Palette. I saw it on the site and was intrigued and then saw your favorable review and decided to jump on it. Love those eyeshadow colors and my blush collection is lacking a mauve.
    3. Viva La Juicy Le Fluer perfume. I was in desperate need of a new perfume, and loved this in the store.

We’ll see if I can resist placing another order for Buxom waterproof mascara and Stila Stay All Day eyeliner…

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kylie,

I think you will enjoy the High Roller Palette. The two metallic eyeshadows in particular are absolutely beautiful (the platinum? SWOON!). Also, the blush is gorgeous. Super smooth, matte and blends beautifully. The only thing that could be tricky is the shimmery bronzer, but you could always use it as an eyeshadow.

So, I’ve never tried that MUFE foundation but I’m intrigued. What type of skin do you have? Mine is combo dry/oily. My big issue is the dry spots thing, too, and so I’m very particular about foundations because a lot go patchy on me. Do you have to set this one with a powder? And how does it handle pores?

      Happy Friday, by the way!

  12. Tracy says:

Hi Karen – I did the same thing when I went to the Rouge event in my area Wednesday night. Nothing really wowed me so I just went for a few staple items plus a cologne for my hubby. He was a little worried at first but I assured him I wouldn’t come home looking like the girl on the cover of the catalog.

They also gave us mini booklets with some upcoming items for December and I’m wondering if you’ve heard about the Urban Decay mini face palette (eye shadows/blush/bronzer/highlight)

    NARS Blush – Sin
Thierry Mugler – Alien (wanted a change from my go to fall/winter scent which is Trish McEvoy Sexy No.9)
    Versace – Pour Homme
Ole Henriksen – Nuture Me Cleansing Cloths (I have an unhealthy obsession w/the scent)
Sephora Collection – Pro Large Domed Stippling Brush
PCC – Crème Colour Concentrate in Pleasure Model

  13. Jennifer says:

I called the VIB Rouge line this morning. They told me the website was operational through desktop computers. iPhones and iPads won’t be able to connect at the moment. They took the order for what I wanted over the phone.

  14. Fancie says:

Ooo nice haul! I really want to try both of those primers

I sure did take advantage of that sale! I got the Bite crayon set, the Too Faced Melted Kisses set, the Give me more lip Sephora sampler, and the Too Faced Everything Nice set. I used some of my points on a Clinique chubby stick, Dior mascara, and Origins GinZing. I think it need to go back 1 more time just in case…

  16. Allison C says:

I went to my local Sephora store yesterday since I wanted to look around, and I heard about the horror show on the website. I love the cute tote that you got. Wish I were Rouge to qualify for that one, but I managed to talk them into giving me a compact mirror. I got the Becca Rose Gold finishing powder I’ve been coveting, and stocked up on 3 Bite Beauty duo lippies including one to give as a gift, a Shiseido lash curler, and I think that was it. Two weeks ago, I was there buying more to qualify for the VIB level. Hopefully I’m done for a little while though I love the sample of Algenist eye cream I got. May have to add it in before the event is over.

Just placed my order after waiting for a whole day (I know the horror). Stocked up on my moisturizer and cleanser from FAB, Hourglass primer and my ‘naughty’ purchase was the UD Revolution lipstick in ‘Bang’ (I’m looking forward to spring 2015 now!) thanks for the UD swatches on your blog Karen…it helped me pick out my ‘naughty’ purchase.

  18. Chelsea says:

    Super boring here!

MD Solar Sciences SPF 50 Mineral Beauty Balm
Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb for the husband
    MUFE Mist & Fix

I’ve used the beauty balm before and love it, that and the brand’s tinted sunscreen are staples for me. Lots of Zinc Oxide, antioxidants, and evens out my complexion. I’ve not tried the Mist & Fix, but it doesn’t to seem to have alcohol like the UD sprays, which dry out my skin.

  19. Elena says:

I had a very small list for the sale this time around. I happened to be off work by the time the Rouge event started so I swung by and I picked up an Ole Henriksen set (for a gift), one of the Bite Mix n Mingle minis in the matte lip creme formula in Maraschino and the Sephora Collection Solid Brush Cleanser.

I finally got through on the site today and redeemed my points for the Urban Decay 500 point perk (it’s a mini palette with a zero eye pencil). Finally a perk I want!

For now, I have nothing else on my list! (well at least from Sephora haha, at Nordstrom it is a different story and I am so enabled on that Armani holiday palette).

  20. Stephanie says:

I actually placed two orders, it took forever to get into the website. I had some stuff in my cart, I went back and forth and took the YSL Touché Éclat pen out. I ordered Take Off the Day balm, UD Good Karma brush, Becca Sheer Perfecting liquid in Moonstone. I regretted not buying the YSL Touché Éclat so I went back online and bought that and some makeup brush cleanser spray. I just attained Rouge status so I’m trying to restrain myself. Haha. I really want the Hourglass trio of blushes and a plum or orchid eyeshadow palette, maybe Santa will bring one for Christmas or my bday.

You got a good haul! I had a T3 hair dryer and I LOVED it, I was broken hearted when it broke. My husband said “you know, it doesn’t always have to be Sephora” silly man!

  21. Katherine T. says:

The Sephora site is TOTALLY overloaded! The first day, I finally got in at 2 AM in the morning and ordered stuff. Yesterday, it was up, but after putting all these items in my basket, everything disappeared and the site was acting up again (what the HELL?). Gave up. What’s the point of 20% off sale if you can’t buy anything???

  22. lena says:

so interesting to hear everyone’s hauls. wish i could order myself. alas sephora do jot ship to my part of the world. ths k god for enablers. i got the hourglass ambient blush palette and ud revolution lipstick in mrs mia wallace. very modest hauls that hopefuly will work for me.

Hi Karen, Do you when Sephora will have a coupon for beauty insider, I’m not a vib or rouge?

  24. Celi says:

I WENT NUTS! ABSOLUTELY NUTS! All the stuff that I had been waiting on for months ended up in my cart. I am now done for at least 7 or 8 months, maybe longer! I got a night cream from Kate Somerville,Clarins serum, Hope in a Jar serum, 3 urban decay lipsticks, 2 Guerlain foundations, the Hour Glass powder palette,2 make-up forever eye brushes, Bobbi Brown blush brush, 3 makeup forever artist shadows,1 Dior lipstick, 1 YSL gloss, 1 Nars blush, 1 bar minerals powder, 2 concealers, the marc Jacobs eyeliner set, a beauty blender, 1 Elizabeth & James White perfume and 1 lip liner!

Is there a hotline for makeup addicts because there should be! I feel sick!

  25. Stephanie says:

Karen, gurl, I just SPENT $100 at Sephora, and I really shouldn’t be spending more… okay, what should I get?

  26. Trude says:

I’m heading there tonight after work, just under the wire! Monday nights the mall is usually pretty deserted. 🙂 I plan on stocking up as well: They’re Real Mascara, UD makeup setting spray, maybe another Bite Beauty lipstick because they’re sooo good. I’ll be keeping an eye out on gift sets to stash for Christmas too. (Please keep those holiday gift set reviews coming, you’ve already helped me so much!)

  27. jess says:

Hey Karen! I made two trips, covers eyes in shame. I got…

    Benefit erase paste
Benefit some kind of gorgeous light
    Bite lip cashmere in Rioja
    Elizabeth and James rollerball duo
    nars audacious lipstick in Natalie
Estee lauder lipstick in insolent berry
Josie Maran coconut glee blush in berry bliss

  28. jess says:

Omg You responded! Lol. I’ve loved your blog for years! 🙂 Some are re-buys like benefit erase paste and some kind of gorgeous. The rest is new! I love the bite lip cashmere, it’s a perfect bright red lip for the holidays that lasts forever! I love the Elizabeth and James rollerballs because one is warm and sexy and the other fresh and feminine, so obvi one for day and night! The other lippes I ordered online last night because winter took a dump on us already and the roads are awful. I’m exited to try Nars and Estee’ S new lipstick formulas! Especially the Insolent Berry shade, it looks gorgeous! And I have a couple of Josie Maran’s coconut blushes but I wanted to try this wine shade. I’m obsessed with wine shades this season!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Jess!

Thank you for reading the site all this time! Tabs sends you purrs and kitty hugs.

It sounds like you live somewhere with a lot of snow. Are you in the midwest?

So, it’s funny that you mention Bite, my BFF was just raving over their Agave Lip Mask. I wanted to get one but ended up with my standby, Hourglass Lip Oil.

You’re going to have so much fun with your new lipsticks as the NARS one is fabulous, and I have to say — Estee Lauder has totally stepped up their color game within the last few years. Oh, and Josie Maran, you’ve got to try her Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadows. I just started using them (I have rose gold) and loooove it. 🙂

  29. jess says:

Yes, I live in Minnesota! So much snow! My husband and I are actually planning on moving down to GA or FL next year because we are so sick of the snow. Lol. Seriously.

What is the hourglass lip oil all about? Never heard of it. Or the lip mask for that fact!

I will definitely try the Josie Maran eye shadow soon, I didn’t know she made that!

I’m stoked to get my new lipsticks, have you tried anythibg from Estee’s new lipstick formula? And I believe Estee Lauder totally gets a bad rap, they have some great products!

  30. Christina says:

    Hi Karen!

    Bite Beauty Agave lip mask
Bite Beauty mini lip pencil set

Amika switch kit Glam Goddess Barrel (1.25”)
Too Faced Melted Kisses lip set
Buxom lash mascara (Have you tried it? I wanted to try something new..)
