Rimmel Keep Calm and Lip Balm Is More Than a $2.50 Makeup Meme

Published in: Daily Beauty

Tabs and I both agree that the whole “Keep Calm and Carry On” meme/slogan thing feels pretty played out, but he has a suggestion to revitalize it…

Ha! I don’t even care if it’s overdone. I’m a sucker for colorful packaging and sans-serif fonts, so I’m all about these almost unbelievably affordable $2.50 (!) Rimmel Keep Calm Balms.

All ahead, cute factor 12. πŸ™‚

When Baby Girl is in elementary school, if she asks for a lipstick to call her own and keep in her My Little Pony backpack, I’d get her one of these…and then I’d borrow it all the time, LOL!

They cost less than a Starbucks latte — just $2.50 each — which makes them prime targets for drugstore stress shopping, so when an obnoxious stranger at Target offers you unsolicited, highly personal advice (FYI, it happens a lot when you’re pregnant), and you desperately need something to calm your nerves, you can add one of these to your basket without throwing your monthly makeup allowance out of whack.

They’re available in five non-sticky, creamy colors, including a clear shade and four lightly tinted ones. They include clear-colored Keep Calm and Shop, pink Keep Calm and Kiss, berry Keep Calm and Rock, rosy Keep Calm and Play, and violet Keep Calm and Party.

The tinted shades are only just barely tinted. It’s a hint of color, but it’s there.

If your lips are in pretty good shape, then the formula should be sufficiently moisturizing, but I wouldn’t go further than that. In other words, if your lips look and feel like Edward Scissorhands has been massaging them lately, you’re probably gonna need something more hydrating.

These take me back, because they taste and smell like Hawaiian Punch! — which is what I drank all the time when I was a kid. We always had a bottle of the concentrated stuff in the fridge that you were supposed to mix with water (but sometimes I’d chug some of the concentrate when nobody was looking, what-what!).

The only thing is…there’s also something artificially waxy about the flavor and scent, which isn’t great, but it’s faint and fades after about 15 minutes.

I still think they’re pretty good for $2.50.

Overall, I get about an hour of wear time out of them.

I’m totally loving these colorful balms.. Hoping to see them in India soon! Reminds me so much of the Maybelline Baby Lips πŸ™‚

  2. Now which one would you choose for your daughter, “Keep calm and kiss” or “Keep calm and party”? Both things I hope my daughter will start doing when she is in her mid-twenties the earliest…
Just kidding (hm), they look cute.

And beware, you might need them later on, as the unsolicited advice only gets worse when baby girl is born.

keep Calm and Carry Tabs! awwww <3

ok so the thing about little girls and lippies they will DIE if they don't have, pleeeeease mommy…. they use it ONCE and lose it.

even when it has a special spot in their MLP (or leopard print) backpack.

so if you want to borrow it just keep it for yourself in the first place.

  7. Ruchita says:

These are cute! I think they would make great stocking stuffers. If carrying Tabs is anything like carrying Mingus, I think it would give me a good workout. Gotta love those husky tabbies. πŸ™‚

    • Karen says:

There are “mommy and me” workouts; I think we should make “tabby and me” workouts the next big thing, LOL! Hey, those husky tabby boys are no joke! They’re like doing curls with 20 lb weights. πŸ™‚

Will the kitties be getting anything special for Thanksgiving, by the way?

      • Ruchita says:

Haha, “tabby and me” workouts would be great! I envision sweat bands and leg warmers, a la 80s workout videos. πŸ™‚ I seriously have to do the bend with your knees, not your back thing if I ever need to pick up Mingus.

It’ll be a low key Thanksgiving this year. We don’t have any plans so I think we’ll just be ordering food from a restaurant and staying in. I’m sure the kitties will share in the turkey. πŸ™‚

Will you be doing any baking? I’m still searching for a good pie crust recipe, so I may try my hand at a pumpkin or apple pie.

        • Karen says:

Haha, and in the workouts, the kitties would have to wear matching sweat bands and leg warmers OF COURSE. And by the way, I may or may not make grunting sounds whenever I pick up Tabs, or whenever he decides to “grace me with his presence” by draping his husky body over my upper half.

Your Thanksgiving plans sound WONDERFUL. I love that you don’t have to do any work — all you have to do is just eat! Seriously, that’s the best way. I hope there’s pie involved in that meal, btw. πŸ˜‰

As for baking I was contemplating doing either brownies or a pumpkin pie or a blueberry peach cobbler (although it’s not very seasonal…I suppose I could make it an apple cobbler), but eh, I’m not sure if I’m going to be up for it or have the time. All I want to do is chill and relax this year, ya know?

          • Ruchita says:

Totally hear you on the chilling and relaxing! Definitely good to take advantage of that before Baby Girl joins the family. Work was crazy this past month, but I was lucky to take the whole week off. I’ve been spending a good deal of time in my PJs. πŸ™‚

Does Tabs like jumping on the bed? Mingus has decided to be very affectionate between 5-6 AM and will jump up and start purring. Nothing like a giant tabby to jolt you awake!

          • Karen says:

I remember you mentioning that work has been nuts. How did the launch go? Have you recovered from the craziness yet?

LOL, Tabs thinks he OWNS our bed. He jumps on it multiple times throughout the night when he needs some sweet, sweet loving, and then promptly jumps off after he’s gotten what he wants. I usually wake up a couple of times throughout the night to use the bathroom (#pregnantladythangs) and when I crawl back into bed, bam, there he is ready for a middle-of-the-night kitty massage. I don’t think he’s actually spent the entire night with us in bed, though. Do any of your kitties do that? I wish Tabs was one of those cats that loved snuggling under the blankets, but he’s not.

          • Ruchita says:

Thanks for asking! The launch went well and things have been quiet since the release. No news, is good news!

Tabs and Mingus sound so similar! He jumps up for pets and leaves when he’s done – usually with a loud thump as he hits the floor.

Nina is the only one that sleeps with us all night. We’ll say “Nina, lets go to bed” and she’ll follow us upstairs. It’s the sweetest thing. She’s just a little girl, but has the loudest purr. We got really lucky when this little black cat crossed our path. πŸ™‚

          • Karen says:

That’s great. I hope it stays quiet for you; congrats on a successful launch! Woo hoo!

And haha, I know that “thud” very well. Sometimes when Tabs jumps off of high places, he actually shakes the floor. πŸ™‚

How sweet that Nina is your bed buddy. Is she snuggly? Or does she keep to a certain area and stay there? YOU’RE SO LUCKY!!

          • Ruchita says:

Haha, the signature tabby thud! πŸ™‚

We are so lucky to have Nina. She’ll start off laying between us and then she’ll move down near the foot of the bed. She’s not really a lap cat, but she’s a real sweetheart. Ella is a real lap cat and she’ll hold me hostage on the couch. It’s fun how they all have different personalities.

          • Karen says:

Isn’t that cool? I think it’s so interesting how much personality our pets can have. They really are their own beings.

Are your kitties affectionate with each other? One thing I always wished Tabs had was a close friend a sibling, a kitty who would love him and clean him and snuggle with him.

          • Ruchita says:

The kitties tolerate each other, but they’re not really affectionate. Ella will sometimes lick Mingy’s head, but if he’s had enough and pulls his head away, she’ll smack him! Lol

I see kitties on Instagram all cuddly with each other, but mine don’t do that. Oh well, at least it’s not a My Cat From Hell situation. πŸ™‚

  8. Kelly B. says:

I almost, almost bought these the other day at Walmart but I figured that since I have so many Baby Lips balms that I probably don’t need these, too! But once I finish some Baby Lips I’m definitely going to scoop these up, they’re too cute!

Ooh, these are so cute. I wonder why I haven’t seen them yet. Definitely going to look for them when I’m out and about.
Unsolicited advice. Ugh, it never ends. I usually say, “Thanks for the input, I’ll keep that in mind.” Then turn and walk away and promptly forget what they said because it usually is none of their d*** business.

    • Karen says:

And LOL re: unsolicited advice! I just smile and nod these days.

Are ya ready for Thanksgiving, by the way?

      • Tatiana says:

Yeah, I think I’m ready. Got up at 6 today and was in the grocery store by 7:30 to beat the crowd. They didn’t have a few things and I forgot some others, so I popped into the produce market after lunch. I think I over bought. But I’m always worried that my holiday plans won’t be perfect. And seriously I’m not like this any other time of the year.
As far as unsolicited advice, I find I’m getting it, and my baby girl just graduated college last May. Go figure.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  10. Erin says:

I love a colored balm but I graduated to Fresh a long time ago! I do like the shape of these for those young ladies who want to wear lipstick but aren’t quite old enough to be allowed yet.

Baby girl carrying a lipstick of her very own! I can’t stand the cuteness. What are we going to do if she doesn’t want any part of makeup????

And honestly if she doesn’t want anything to do with makeup I may crumple up into a small ball and cry, LOL.

  12. Rachel R. says:

I think the packaging is super-cute, but I prefer Baby Lips for hydration and pigmentation.

  13. Suzanne says:

It finally got below 80 degrees and lower humidity in Florida, and now I want ALL the hydration!!!!

The Keep Calm, etc, thing has been done to death. And I’ll bet very few people realise where it comes from: those signs and similar ones were created by the British government in 1939 as propaganda to help prepare the country for fighting the Nazis. The posters were based on several speeches Winston Churchill made around that time.

  14. Kwmechelle says:

Yep, over the keep calm memes. These are cute but your girl NEEDS hydration. At all times. So while these are cute, they wouldn’t really serve a purpose for me. Now if you want to gift some for baby girl, I say go for it. They’ll look doubly cute in the MLP back pack. : – )

  15. Pamela Haddad says:

They are adorable! I will have to try them. Meanwhile, keep calm and carry Tabs! SO cute!

  16. Lauren says:

These are cute! Will have to grab some. Are you saving them for BG’S newborn pic?

Unwanted advice: can’t stand it. I’m assuming it’s pregnancy/baby advice? Just reply to the next steanger: ” oh myyy, you think I’m pregnant?!? Better hit the gym I guess.”
