This afternoon, Tabs watched birds while I wrote. I love his purr-chirp face. 🙂

I didn’t hear a cat make this noise until I was about 13 or so! And we had cats…I think the cats we had previously were allowed outside & didn’t get frustrated by WANTING to kill the birds but knowing they were just out of reach behind glass, ha ha.
I used to use a mirror to shine sun in a spot on the wall and one of my cats would make the chirp noise. It’s so cute.
Awwww ooooooohh how cute! I caught Tango purr-chirping at the cat from across the street the other day. It’s been so cold here and I haven’t seen any birds, so I was surprised when I heard him purr-chirp. Turned out it was the calico beauty climbing down the tree from across the street. I bet Tango was this close to asking her over 😉
I love the purr-chirp noise! We have lots of crows in our neighborhood and our maine coon Freyja purr-chirps & swishes her tail like crazy when they amass in the trees. It’s just my favorite!
I have a huge Maine Coon named Taz. He does the purr-chirp thing, and so do a few of my other cats. Especially when they see the ducks and other water birds in the pond near the window.
OMIGOD he looks just like our cat Bebe who chirps and chatters at the birds and squirrels outside. He’s the only one of our cats that does this on a regular basis, and he can be egged on by me when I do my poor attempt at cat-chirping noises. He also makes these staccato meows along with his chattering and his jaw looks like its moving at near-warp speed – it’s hilarious! We also tease Bebe by telling him that the birds are mocking him.
Poor frustrated Bebe and Tabs!
I often wondered why cats do this as it seems it would be counterproductive if they were outside stalking birds?
