Like flowers…
These are currently growing in front of Blue Barn Marin, home of the greatest salad in the entire world (the tostada salad, if you get it with extra shrimp and avocado).
I saw the flowers the other day, and they got me thinking about this Badgley Mischka dress, because I need something to wear to the Emmys…
Wait — what?
Did she say Emmys..?
Yeah, she did. 🙂
Kind of random, but I’ll be there at the show in Los Angeles later this month (Very excited! You know I’m a huge TV fan.). Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict/cat aficionado is going to be in the audience at the Emmys.
Needless to say, I feel like I probably shouldn’t wear a cat t-shirt to this kind of thing, hence the dress, which I’m actually renting from Rent the Runway.
Now I’m trying to decide on the accessories, like, do I totally bling it out? It is an awards show, after all, but I’m afraid that too much sparkle will look too pageant-y, if you know what I mean.
What do you think? How should I handle the earrings/necklace/bracelet/tiara situation? The show is Monday night, August 25.

Woah!! Emmys!! Amazing Karen! 😀 I think you should keep it very chic and statement! focus on either earrings or necklace or a cuff.. not everything!

AHHH SO EXCITING!!!
I totes want to start a pinterest board for you!
I’m thinking a few chunky gold pieces and some delicate stuff to balance it. Think Hippie Look meeting DVF in the 70s.
Big hair though. That sweetheart neckling is begging for it!

The Emmy’s, how exciting! I say go for some big ol’ giant ass blingy earrings with a complementary cuff or cuffs, whatever, and you’re good to go. The dress is totally gorg, btw.
Kiss & Make-up says
Oooooh how exciting! I expect a full recap 😀

Karen, that is so huge you’re going to the Emmys!!! I say really big blingy sparkly earrings and that’s it! Hair up, to show off the pretty cut of the dress. Maybe, maybe like a ring or bracelet but other than really great earrings keep it simple.

How awesome!! I’m not giving you ANY fashion/accessory tips, ’cause, you know, I’m not remotely qualified. 🙂 I’m really excited for you, though, and I’m sure you’ll look terrific and have a great time!

You must be thrilled Karen!!! OMG I’m so excited for you!! As for the dress, you will rock that look – are you pinning your hair up or down? Hair up with big chunky dangly earrings is my favorite look with a strapless dress – it brings attention to the collarbone and isn’t over done… that said, if you’re hair is down, then I’d do simple earrings and a chunky necklace… both looks with a wrist accessory and rings, purse and shoes… excellent!!!

That pink dress is gorgeous! You don’t see enough color at award shows, I think.
Agata says
I think you definitely need some bling! Maybe not a necklace but some longer sparkly earrings and a thicker bracelet. No matter what though, I am sure you will look stunning!
Kwmechelle says
Oooooh that dress! Absolutely stunning! I vote with others who say hair up, sparkly/long statement earrings, & maybe a bling bracelet. I’d wear a cute clutch, mani, pedi, & strappy shoes. Or even a chignon (spelling ?) a la Taylor Swift on the red carpet. Totally expect a full re-cap!
I’m not exactly a minimalist fashionista but I’d definitely try to keep it semi-simple. That dress & it’s color, with the neckline, makes a statement all by itself 🙂

You’re going to have so much fun! That dress is so beautiful. I also think you should wear your hair up with statement earrings and cute clutch. Maybe a couple small bracelets too. Either way, I know you’ll look gorgeous!

How awesome! I’m so excited for you!

Whoa, how awesome that you get to attend the Emmys, Karen! How’d that work out for you?! Looking forward to that post (and any cool celeb encounters)!
No matter what you do with your hair and/or if you choose to wear a cuff/necklace/tiara/what have you (personally, I’d wear a statement necklace with that dress), I say go with big, stunning earrings. But have fun with it – it’s a big awards show, might as well make it as glamorous as you can!
Erin says
OMG! Did Ryan Gosling finally decide to ask you out!
In all seriousness this is AMAZING! You will look exceptional in the dress but what makeup! OMG what a post that will be! Don’t forget Pretty Peaushun or F&B mixed into a little lotion for your chest area! I’d keep the bling to great earrings if your hair is up, a necklace if it’s down or half up, and maybe a smart bracelet. If you do more then that I think it will be too much. Maybe a cocktail ring?
Ruchita says
How exciting!!! The cat lady in my says that Tabs dressed up in a tuxedo would be the best acessory. 🙂
Ok back to reality – I think with that dress if you are wearing your hair down, then maybe some fancy earrings and a bracelet.
If you have your hair up, then I think a pretty necklace would be nice.
I prefer to keep it simple with accessories, so I think one statement piece would be good.
Have fun. I can’t wait to hear about it!

Emerald dangle earrings…no necklace. Love the dress!
Kelly says
I think with a dress that bright, the jewelry and accessories should be a little more subtle. Maybe some cute silver studs or a teeny bow necklace. You want the jewelry to compliment the dress, not fight with it.
I think a cute pair of black heels would look fabulous too. 😉
Rachel P. says
That is SOOOO EXCITING!!! 😀 😀 I bet you will have an amazing time! I say keep the accessories sparkly but simple- just because the dress is so vibrant, maybe skip the statement necklaces (like keep the neck area delicate), but go for some really shiny earrings or a larger bracelet to spread out the whabam factor a little bit! Just a thought 🙂 You will fantastic no matter how you accessorize!

Beautiful Beauty Blogger,
I love your blog. I think you’re a very lovely woman. But jewelry, just like the face, (Eyes, cheeks, lips can look overdone) pick one place for your exceptional piece of bling. The neck is more sensual that the ears. So that’d be my choice. Even though I always want to wear mine, too. I’d skip the tiara. It’s a little to Cinderella in our modern world. Have a wonderful time, looking forward to your Emmy’s Blog
Iris says
That is so cool about the awards show!
For a brighter dress, I’d wear a sparkly pair of earrings and a necklace. 🙂 Have an awesome time!
Ms. Heathen says
Keep accessories simple, earrings yes, necklace no or a very simple one if you must. Possibly a simple bracelet. A statement clutch bag wouldn’t be too much, or statement nails one or the other.
That dress is going to look so amazing on you! You don’t really want to detract from how the color will set off your beautiful skin.
Charlotte says
Gah!!! So exciting!! Can’t wait for your recap 😀
Sylirael says
Oh la la! Go Karen! 😀
I think you should wear one of your fabulous statement necklaces, and go light on the rest of the jewelery – you’re already an accomplished statement necklace wearer, so I think you’ll feel comfortable 😉 I think a statement necklace would also look particularly awesome with that pink dress.
Trude says
That’s so awesome you get to go! I say take inspiration from whatever your favorite Emmy looks have been in the past. You can’t go wrong that way! That dress will be gorgeous no matter what. 🙂
