If you watch for the flowers and pinch them off as they appear, you can keep the basil from flowering and going to seed. It’ll just keep growing the leaves you want 🙂
We grow a lot of basil in our backyard as we are Italian and my grandmother puts it in everything, espeically the homemade sauce! It also freezes well and if you have too much basil Karen, you can always make some pesto sauce! 🙂
We don’t! LOL nobody at home likes it! And i still won’t actually eat the basil…..i’m always doing what i did when i was a kid, pick it up and toss it (or swipe it across my plate) and tell my nonna she put way too much basil this time hehehe
LOve the smell of fresh basil though. Always in our sauce or you can slice up some bocconcini cheese with tomatoes, drizzle with olive oil, and top with fresh basil!
i agree if you pinch before the flowers it won’t go to seed but i swear those flowers pop up over night….Can’t wait til my tomatoes turn red looking forward to some fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes.

i love to grow basil but hate when it goes to seed then you can’t cook with it cause it is so bitter…but still smells good and wards off bugs

Eeek! I think I’ll pinch that basil off today.
This is my first time trying to grow it so I’m learning as I go along. 🙂

There is NEVER too much basil.
