THESE LASHES HAVE A BLACK BAND!
Yes, that was all caps necessary.
I’ve often wondered why false lashes don’t always come with a dark brown or black band, like these Eylure Volume No. 101s.
Most of the time they have bands that are white, which for me means usually having to paint them with liner, either before or after applying, because I don’t want the white to peek through on my fringe.
I mean, it wouldn’t be an impossible feat of engineering or anything. Right? To make a black lash band? I’m guessing we have the technology…
Not that it’s the end of the world to have to darken them myself, but it is an extra step I’ll happily omit.
I like this particular style, the Eylure No. 101s, because the lashes are juuust long enough to be noticeable…but still aren’t super long. They’re also lightweight and a good width for me, so I don’t have to trim them down.
The lashes are staggered in length along the band, too, with the longest ones in the middle, which I think makes my eyes look larger, more rounded and open.
This kit here, the Volume Starker Kit, includes two small bottles of glue, a plastic lash applicator (which I don’t really use, since the lashes are really easy to apply without it) and an extra practice lash (because practice makes perfect!).
It usually sells for $5.99, but it’s on sale now at Ulta for $4.99 (they’re also reusable a few times if you’re gentle with them).
A fab Netflix find
I saw a lovely documentary on Netflix last weekend that I think you’ll like called Advanced Style.
It’s an offshoot of the Advanced Style blog, which has awesome pics and stories about fashionable New Yorkers in their 50s and 60s and beyond.
I just thought it was so sweet and inspiring. I love seeing stylish, creative women embracing life with a bear hug, ya know, and just doing the damn thing! 🙂
Highly recommended for when you’re in the mood for something sweet and fashionably fun on Netflix.

These are stunning! How do you wash your falsies, Karen? I really, really hate cleaning false lashes. It’s very frustrating and it’s making me impatient! lol. I also love staring at posh old women! Check this pic from the Sartorialist

I like this kind of lashes if I go for a more “natural” look, because the roundness looks less done.
Of course, lashes are lashes and never look natural, but compared to those cat eye lashes, they at least try.

Hi Karen! Have you tried Dolly Wink lashes? They do have a black band, too, and looks more natural, although this is much cheaper at $4.99.

They look quite natural, especially from a distance. And oooh I gotta check out that documentary 😀

These lashes look just right! I need to go check ’em out. I wore the Kiss Trio lashes recently which come in a pack with Short and Xtra Short and they were pretty fabulous. Quicker to apply than individuals because they are…a trio…… but no messing around with an entire band. That being said, I still prefer the finished look of a full set to just wearing lashes at the outer corner.

Karen, I did it. I tried Eyelure lashes. I actually don’t know the number (I threw out the box!) but they came in a purple box and are seriously dramatic. Love!

These look really natural and pretty! I don’t know if this is the reason but the black dye they use in plastics overseas can contain phthalates that are banned by Prop 65. It’s harder and more expensive to get products that will pass. That might be why you don’t see black bands more in lashes. Of course, that might have nothing to do with it. 🙂

I will totally have to get these. I need to practice how to put lashes on…

I need to give these lashes a try. I’m really looking for a pair that just adds a bit of volume to what I have. I suppose I ought to go with individual lashes for that.
Do you apply a light coat of mascara once you’ve applied your false lashes? I once saw a video where Jeanine Lobell did that.
Ha! I like that one lady’s comment. “If somebody doesn’t like what I’m wearing, I don’t give a sh__!” I need to watch that video while the DH is away on business.

I love those. It’s the Eva Longoria lash look!
