I have a thing for beauty products with birds on the packaging, and this cute soap by Tokyo Milk (available at Anthropologie, $11) totes caught my eye.
It would make a nice hostess gift, yah?

It’s a great hostess gift as long as you know the hostess A)likes soap products and B) (if soap is scented) the host isn’t allergic. Soap is generally a personal thing.
Hostess gift wise, guest books, journals, exquisite chocolates, a homemade gift, wine (know it may not be used at the party so you shouldn’t be upset if it isn’t used) or candy are generally acceptable. Flowers are bad options as it requires your hostess to stop what they’re doing and find a vase. Soaps, dishes, books or anything really personal should be avoided unless you talk with your host prior to coming.
I usually reserve bringing gifts for parties/gatherings or if I’m going to my grandma’s for holidays. If I were sleeping over at a friend’s house, I’ve learned that bringing a hostess gift will either A) make the parents love me or B) make them hate me as they think I’m sucking up. I’m always polite and express my gratitude after I left by a phone call or card though. My parents raised me a little too European, I think. 🙂

I love these soaps. I’ve given them as gifts a few times and they’re always well received.

Hi Joanne,
Have you purchased anything else from the Tokyo Milk line? I think I want to try some of the perfumes and the bath gels next. 🙂
