One glimpse across a crowded Nordstrom store yesterday and it was ON!
That’s all it took to catch me — the new Yves Saint Laurent Saharienne Heat summer 2013 collection.
It flicked a primal switch, and I started run-walking toward the counter (probably making grabby hands in the air).
LOL! Alright, maybe I’m being a little dramatic…
No, the more I think about it, it was exactly like that. 🙂
I was moving so fast toward those purples, greens, corals and bronzes that I almost tripped in my Michael Kors birthday heels…which wouldn’t have been all bad as I would have fallen into the display.
Here are some pics and swatches of the quads and polishes.
YSL also has a new perfume out called Manifesto that I like. I asked a YSL artist named Christina at the Nordie’s out here about one of the notes I couldn’t quite place, and she said, “tonka beans.” It’s a note the company usually only uses in their fragrances for men, and I think it gives Manifesto a bit of a masculine edge. I still like it, though. It’s worth a sniff next time you’re there.
Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto official fragrance notes
Bergamot, green notes, blackcurrant buds, jasmine, lily of the valley, cream, cedarwood, sandalwood, tonka bean and vanilla
I sprayed some on my wrist, started to walk away, and then turned back to ask for a sample! It’s very spicy and warm, and even though it seems almost like a fall fragrance, I frankly don’t care. 🙂 I like it a lot.
The quads and purple liner were also pretty tempting, but I managed to walk away for now.
I couldn’t resist the green nail polish, though, Vert D’Orient. I had to bring that home with me…
We’ll see how my restraint holds up when I head back to the counter next Friday for a makeover at the Corte Madera Nordstrom Pretty Party.
Have you heard of Nordstrom Pretty Parties? They’re these free beauty events they’re holding at various Nordstrom stores across the country this spring and summer, where the counters give free makeovers and skincare consultations, hand out deluxe samples and do gifts with purchases. If you use the store locator, it’ll let you know if any of the stores near you are doing them.
The one at the Corte Madera store takes place on both Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, from 11-6 p.m.
To book a reservation for a makeover, just swing by any of the participating beauty counters, or if you’re in my area, call Christina at the Corte Madera Nordie’s YSL counter at (415) 927-1690 X1072. She’ll set ya up.
I’m hoping to walk out of my makeover looking like this…assuming I can find a stone cow (or is that a goat?).
Did you do anything fun last night? It hit me that one of my greatest joys in life lately has been sitting on the couch in my pajamas, eating leftover Thai food and watching The Mindy Project. (Yes, I’ve done this more than once over the past two weeks…not with the same Thai food, of course.)
Every time I watch that show I crack up laughing at least twice!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Oooh those polishes! Such unique colors.
Karen says
I know! I bet they’d all look pretty together in a multi-colored mani. 🙂
Karla says
The swatches of the bronzers disappointed me 🙁
Karen says
Hi Karla,
Were you hoping for some shimmer?
Katherine G says
Wow, that looks like an amazing collection! Like I need more pretty neutral eyeshadows and purple eyeshadows hahahaha (or purple liners)…but they are calling my name!
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
I thought the same thing when I was at the counter, haha! The whole collection overall is just so pretty though. My makeup spider senses keep tingling with the thought of both of the quads and the liner. 🙂
How’s it going out your way today? Things are good on this end. It’s supposed to hit the ’70s today here in my town, so I’m in a great mood…
Katherine G says
LOL. You can never have too many good neutrals and/or liners that work with your eye color/skin tone. Purple is a neutral for me since my eyes have green in them and it brings out the green.
Things are good! We got the AC fixed (we thought it was a compressor issue since half our neighborhood had AC’s going out on houses only 3 years old), and it turned out to be a stink bug on the contact…unfortunately couldn’t give the stink bugs the bill, hahaha. So, if you have AC problems, check your contacts before calling the AC guy (or get El Hub to do it). It is in the 80’s here, feels like a very hot summer with very warm nights.
Karen says
Same for me. Purple liner (purple anything, really) with brown eyes is magic!
Good to know about the AC. Ours really needs to get a checkup, but we keep forgetting to make an appointment with the AC guy. I will have to gently remind El Hub to go look at it.
It’s nice to have the warm weather back, isn’t it? If my allergies don’t go crazy, I think I want to go hiking this weekend.
Agata says
The purple quad looks pretty and so does the purple eyeliner.
I watched The Mindy Project last night too. It is really funny.
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I heart Mindy and Casey together. They’re so cute! I really hope that the writers don’t let Danny and Mindy get together. I love the tension between them and think it’s one of the best things about the show.
So, have you decided what to do with your hair? Are you commenting from the salon right now? 🙂
Agata says
I’m sure sooner or later Minday and Danny will end up together but I love the tension too. Yesterday when he held her hand on the plane…ahhh.
I’m at the salon right now 🙂
Karen says
I thought that scene was sweet too.
On the flight out to New Mexico it was so funny how Mindy’s couldn’t get her luggage into the overhead compartment. She does physical comedy really well!
Have fun at the salon! What did you decide to do?
Agata says
I did have fun and I love my hair. I got blonde as always with two toned brown low lights “peek-a-boos”- they are only underneath so when I put my hair behind my ears you can see the brown. The stylist suggested with do that first and if I like the darker we can do them on front next time too. I like it-it;s still blond but with a twist 🙂
Jennifer says
Not a fan actually! Way too 80’s for me!
Karen says
But it’s ’80s in the best way, LOL!
Monica P says
Looks nice, kinda bright .. I’ll probably pass.
Monica.
Danielle says
That eyeliner looks AMAZING! And I don’t think I have one quite like it.
makeupalldaylong says
I have no willpower – I want it all! Thanks for posting the swatches!
gio says
That green polish is so beautiful!
Heidi says
Oh, yeah, I’m doing the serious grabby hands thing just looking at that purple liner! Come to mama!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
YES! The YSL makeup artist was wearing it and it looked SUPER pretty. I bet Missy would approve. It’s got that touch of diva that she likes.
Sarah @ MidwestGlam says
What a gorgeous collection! The purples (naturally) really stand out for me.
I’m also a big fan of The Mindy Show, LOVED having Josh back in last nights episode!
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
I just started watching it and I really enjoy it! Were you cracking up when Morgan and Dr. Reed took the stage after they went to the sweat lodge? LOL
Clare @ The Blossom Shed says
YSL packaging is just so gorgeous!I’ve just started watching an episode here and there of the Mindy Project, but I love it – her delivery is so hilarious and unique.
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
Wow, that purple palette=stunning!!
Sarah says
These nail polishes are exactly the kind Im looking for this spring. Something bright & bold.
Sarah
Hope says
I like this – it’s bold and bright for the summer… XOXO
Marina(Makeup4all) says
The darkest shade in Pure Chromatics Quad No 20 is just WOW. As for Manifesto, I really like it, actually.
And as for the show, I have never heard about it, will have to take a look.
Anitacska says
I love the purples! 🙂
Karen says
Me too. 🙂
Kim says
I think it’s a stone bull or perhaps a bloated and deformed unicorn? 🙂 I actually really like the golds in the #20 but I know I wouldn’t like them on me.
I haven’t seen Mindy but the commercials look funny. I’ll have to add it to my list of things to watch.
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Or maybe a minotaur? It’s really hard to tell from this angle!
I think you’d really like that show. Apparently she comes from a writing background and also starred/wrote for The Office. I never watched that show, but I know love of people like it.
What’s on your to-watch list now that you’re all caught up with Walking Dead?
Kim says
HAHA! Definitely could be a minotaur! I think we should go with that. 🙂
I’ve been plowing through Breaking Bad and made two seasons worth of progress last week. The school break is over and the boys are back at hockey 2x per week so I’ve stalled a bit. I’m hoping to watch some this weekend. It’s not really what I expected. It’s funnier (in kind of a twisted way) than I would have guessed. Have you watched it?
Karen says
I’ve heard that show’s good; Entertainment Weekly’s always going on and on about it. I’ve tried to watch an episode here and there on TV, but I think it’s one of those things that you really need to see from the beginning because I just couldn’t get into it from the little snippets that I’ve seen. One of these days!
Gosh, remember when the only way to watch a show was to wait for it to come out every week? The ability to see something from start to finish in a short amount of time totally changes the experience.
