Evenin’, gorgeous. What are you up to tonight? I’ve basically been laying low here at home, painting my nails, reading some magazines and just chilling with the boys.
I was fiending for sushi earlier tonight but didn’t want to drive the 20 minutes to the Japanese place I really like, so I just picked up one of those packages of pre-made sushi rolls (shrimp tempura) from Whole Foods.
Eh, it was aw-ite. 🙂
Oh, Lloyd Christmas got a trim at the salon this afternoon, so he’s back to his old self again. And then afterward he and I stopped by Nordie’s for a quick look around.
There were TONS of new fall products out on counters in the beauty department, but the purples, greens, pinks and reds from the new YSL Midnight Garden Collection kept me occupied. They’re available now in stores and online.
The 12-piece collection of stuff for eyes, cheeks, lips and nails feels pretty summery to me, which is great because I’m nowhere even remotely near ready for summer to end. Tropical flowers, exotic birds and fantasy midnight gardens (fo’ reals!) are supposed to have inspired the release, and I can see it, too, in the rich jewel-toned shades and the pale pink, peach and lavender pastels that pop against them.
I’m a HUGE Faux Cils mascara fan and really, REALLY wanted a tube of the new Midnight Blue ($30), but alas, the counter was sold out. I walked away almost empty handed (got a bottle of La Laque Nail Laquer in 43 Wintergreen).
Have you checked out the collection in person? Here are some swatches if you haven’t seen them yet. Take a look, and holla at me in the comments with your faves.

Oooo I’m really loving the quint! I saw this all in person but didnt realize it had just came out that day.
Karen says
Hi Lindsay,
The quint is super pretty! I do wish the dark purple was slightly more intense. It should look really pretty applied wet, though.
Makeup Morsels says
I never ever stop craving sushi o.O The worst part is that my favorite place is erm…halfway across the globe. Very convenient, right?
Thanks for swatching this collection! The Rouge Volupte Perles are gorgeous, I think Incandescent Orange is my favorite. Must hold off from making any splurges right now since I just placed a rather sizeable first Fyrinnae order, but I’ll keep these in mind in case I have a moment of weakness~
Karen says
Hi Makeup Morsels,
LOL… mine is an hour drive and a bridge away. You totally win!
What do you like to order? I’m big into rolls, myself. Anything with avocado , shrimp or salmon and and I’m good.
Jessica says
Looks gorgeous- I’m in love with the lipsticks mainly for their packaging. So luxurious looking!
Karen says
Hi Jessica,
Oh, I know. They’re a splurge, but such a nice one. 🙂
dani@callitbeauty says
deep night purple & velvet green are gawjus! i think emerald green might be one of my favourite colours for F/W 2011 <3.
Karen says
I love all the greens in this launch, Dani! 🙂
AO says
I’m about to pass out!!!. Great stuff. 😀
Karen says
Hi AO,
I know! I had to pry myself away from the display. 🙂
What pieces are your faves?
Vonvon says
Purples and greens are gorgeous!
And I love all the colours of the blush!
I haven’t bought YSL for a while since the brand pulled out of Malaysia. But I am glad I could get them in the UK.
Karen says
Hi Vonvon,
The blushes felt buttery soft! I may have to go back to visit with the red one, LOL!
Rae // theNotice says
Mmm, loving the look of Velvet Green & Blush no. 5 – what a gorgeous red!
Karen says
Oh yes! Imagine it applied with a fan brush… delicious!
Heidi says
Loving all the purples for eyes. What an unusual fall collection, but I love it!
Karen says
Me too! I want to rock the look that the model’s wearing. Love, LOVE the mix of unexpected bold lips and eyes. 🙂
Crystal says
I got the number #5 blush and it’s beautiful!
Karen says
That shade is tempting me, big time. What brush do you use to apply it?
Crystal says
Sigma F50 since I’m a coward that doesn’t want to look like a clown lol:)
Jessica says
So excited to see this post! I’m a YSL junkie, but I’ve been somewhat rational with this collection so far – I’ve hauled the Rouge Volupte Perles in 107, 108, and 110. But the palette, green ombre solo shadow, and blushes have reeeeally tempting me! Also love the wintergreen polish. Love the whole collection!
kalcedon says
Thr two mono eyeshadows are to die for! I also quite like the Brazen Plum lipstick. The violet ones seems wonderful too (I’m just not sure I could pull that off :P)
Anitacska says
Blush #6 is gorgeous! I’ve seen the collection in person, but only swatched the quint (I’m still umming and ahing about it as it’s £40 which is a bit steep), but that blush is really pretty!
Chris25 says
Ombre Solo in Velvet Green looks so pretty!
Michelle says
Karen what would be a close dupe for Blush #1? Gorgeous! Thanks!
Michelle says
By Mac that is…
Melody says
Oh no, I’m sorry about your mascara. It does look like a nice shade. I really want to check out velvet green myself. I wonder how close it is to MAC bows and curtsies…it looks more blue.
Sarah S. says
I think I’m the only weirdo on the planet who has a hankering for Lilac Blush (No. 3)… been wanting it since I first saw the promo images but I can’t pull the trigger!
Karen says
You’re not! I wanted it until I swatched it. It probably won’t work on me as a blush (more like a highlighter). But if you’re lighter than I am GO FOR IT! I need to vicariously live through somebody, as you can see.
Michele DiCola says
I am lovin” that color!
Natalie Wilkinson says
literally chocked when i saw the price of the blush, i love #2 though. i will save many many pennies
Roxana says
I got the Midnight Garden quint the day it came out, about 3-4 weeks ago at Saks. I saw it in an online ad and I fell in love with it, so naturally I had to have it 🙂 I love YSL makeup and this is no exception, the colors are so beautiful and unexpected and they blend really well! Oh, hope you decide to do a look with it, Karen… I could use some inspiration! 🙂
Nina says
gorgeous launch! i love almost everything in it!
Monika says
Their faux cils is my fave mascara hands down. And nail polishes are so vibrant and long lasting as well. Nice luxurious cases won’t hurt either:)
AO says
Hiya Karen. What pieces aren’t my favorites? haha. Seriously, I couldn’t wait and ordered the 5 colour palette already. So that is on its way. I also want to get the midnight blue mascara and at least 2 or 3 of the lippies. Brazen Plum, Spellbinding Violet and i might just go out of my usual purple zone and try the Incandescent Orange. Oww la la. Now… the trick is to find all the $$ for these goodies. 🙂
mulberrytea says
I love all the colors together, as well as the pops of unexpected tones like lilac, red, and deep forest green.
However, I’m too much of a neutral devotee to wear any of them on my face, haha. Hope you post some looks using this collection soon!
