Since I have a weak spot for NARS blushes that’s right up there with my weak spot for Häagen-Dazs dulce de leche ice cream, I was shocked, and a wee bit disappointed, to hear that Francois left the blushes out of his collection for fall.
But I wiped away my tears today when I saw these pics for the small 11-piece collection for eyes, lips and nails. The shimmery earth tones with metallic finishes; the sheer, sparkly cool purples and pinks; and even a couple of unexpected greens and blues? NARS started with safe neutrals but sprinkled them with just enough brights to keep a girl on her toes, and what he came up with looks to be a lot of fun.
Plus, almost all of the colors are new (two of the lip glosses are repromotes).
Trio Eyeshadow in Calanque (new), $45 — This earthy trio can do the splits, meaning it’s flexible, yo. It contains a shimmery gold-infused platinum with silver glitter, a light matte caramel and a shimmery antique-ish golden bronze. Wear the products individually, using one as a base, one as a highlighter and one as a liner, or mix and match them with the other eye products from the release (or something else entirely). Neat, right? I can already see this trio getting a permanent place in my makeup bag.
Eyeshadow Duo in Bateau Ivre (new), $32 — I feel blue 🙁 but in a totally good way. I’m eager to try Bateau Ivre’s rich sky blue and deep denim. FUN FACT: This duo took its moniker from the Arthur Rimbaud poem of the same name.
An excerpt from Le Bateau Ivre (The Drunken Boat)
“As I was floating down unconcerned Rivers
I no longer felt myself steered by the haulers:
Gaudy Redskins had taken them for targets
Nailing them naked to coloured stakes.I cared nothing for all my crews,
Carrying Flemish wheat or English cottons.
When, along with my haulers those uproars were done with
The Rivers let me sail downstream where I pleased.”
— Arthur Rimbaud, Le Bateau Ivre
Eyeshadow Duo in Nouveau Monde (new), $32 — One word: WANT! Nouveau Monde, French for “New World”, NARS poetically pairs a silvery metallic lilac with a rich olive gold.
Soft Touch Shadows Pencils in Celebrate (new) and Hollywoodland (new), $24 each — Both Celebrate (a festive parrot green) and Hollywoodland (a pale gold) can be worn as bases upon which to layer powder shadows, or alone for a dash of pigmented shimmer.
Lip Glosses in Nana (new), Super Orgasm (repromote) and Angelika (repromote), $24 each — There they (NARS) go again. They can’t sincerely expect me to be able to resist shiny pink and purple glosses, right? I mean come on.
I’m putting Nana (French for a “girl/chick”), a sheer black grape, near the top of my list, next to the repromoted Super Orgasm, a peachy pink with golden glitter, and Angelika, a bright cotton candy pink with gold and silver sparkle (as repromotes, both are already available at Sephora and NARS counters now).
Lipstick in Tzigane (new), $24 — This sheer, pinkish brandy looks like a perfect companion for bold eye looks.
Pure Matte Lipstick in Madère (new), $25 — NARS named this matte nude pink after an archipelago of volcanoes off the coast of Portugal. It looks like something I’d love, but the name keeps making me think of the Chicken Madeira at Cheesecake Factory (try it if you like gravy).
Nail Polish in Desperado, $16 — NARS showed true grit when he developed this shimmery brass. 🙂 I think it’s a nice break from all of the greens and greenish grays we’ve been seeing from the other premium makeup lines this spring (See: Dior, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana).
With the collection, NARS aimed for a minimalist fashion-forward makeup look. Take a look at these early promo pictures, and let me know if you think he hit the mark.

Looking at the pics, did anything catch your eye? I’m juiced about the Calanque trio, the Nouveau Monde duo, both of the Soft Touch Shadow Pencils and all three of the glosses…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

dani@callitbeauty says
again, it’s the lip glosses that are doing it for me. i’m eager to see what nana looks like! 🙂
Karen says
I’m super stoked about that shade too. I hope it’s nice and sheer!
Gina says
Th eyeshadow duos look really pretty. And it looks like every brand is jumping on the shadow stick boat, huh? But I’m not complainin’. They usually make for great bases!
Karen says
I’m not either! Add in a good base like Pro Prime and BAM! You’re set. 🙂
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
I’ll take Calanque, Hollywoodland,Tzigane and Madere Alex!!
Karen says
You’re so cute!
NARS FINAL JEOPARDY!
LOL
Kate says
Aaaack – I cannot wait. I love the colors:)
Karen says
Me too. I like how there’s a mix of both wearable and fun shades. The palette seems to make a lot of sense too!
What are you most excited about?
vonnie says
those lip glosses are calling my name! nana looks VERY intriguing and i’d love to finally try super orgasm in lip form
vonnie says
oh and Hollywoodland looks AMAZING!!! so pretty, i want to try that one for sure 😀
Karen says
Both colors would look great on you, Vonnie!
lexi says
I have a HUGE soft spot for neutral shadows – this trio has LEX written all over it. I love the Nana gloss just because that’s what my daughter calls her grandmother and I’m super curious about that color. This is when I really, really appreciate the skin tone I am. I usually get away with these type of dark colors. I also want the blue duo and the Hollywoodland soft touch pencil.
What’s up with leaving blushes out of the collection? That’s so not NARS style!
Karen says
I know! I think that awesome trio makes up for it though.
danielle says
nars’ packaging is so beautiful
Karen says
It is! I love how elegant and clean it is.
Meg says
I love the trio but have to admit that I dislike it when companies mold the colors together instead of each getting their own individual pot. There is always one color that you use more than the others and hitting pan on that one causes the others to start to break. Plus, it’s hard to use the whole area of any one color without blending into it’s neighbor on your brush. So I will skip it, but I won’t be happy about it 🙁
Karen says
Maybe the duos will be more your style then?
I know it’s not part of this release, but if you like neutrals the NARS Kalahari is awesome.
Meg says
Oh sure Karen. ENABLE ME. 😛 Don’t worry, I heart NARS even if I don’t agree with this particular trio.
Allegra says
That eyeshadow trio looks BAWM!
Karen says
LOL! 🙂
Jen W says
Nana lipgloss looks crazy! Is it blueish violet?
Karen says
It’s supposed to be a dark, sheer purple. I can’t wait to see it in person!
BlovetBeauty says
love the eye colors!
Karen says
Me too!
Advah says
Oh Nars, why are you doing this to me again.. Forget MAC and other Lancomes, Nars is the brand I find most difficult to resist. Those eyeshadows look irresistibly velvety and I must try the pencils and lipglosses!
Will have to stop by the Nars counter on my way home tomorrow, just to refresh my memory about what’s already available. 🙂
Karen says
Hey Advah,
Have fun at the counter! Be sure to peep the Kalahari Duo while you are there (if you don’t have it already). 🙂
Advah says
I don’t and I’ll def check it out. Thanks!
gio says
The green pencil looks gorgeous! I will have to check that out 🙂
Karen says
I’m pretty excited about it too! I bet it would look fab smudged along the upper lash line.
Karen B says
Tzigane and both the duos look awesome 🙂 Also: what a multitasker that trio could be. Would be perfect for any work-look I’d like to do.
Karen says
It would look super pretty on you. You could easily rock that darker brown as a liner (either wet or dry).
*jen says
That trio! Oooh la la.
Karen says
I know! WANT!
Antonia says
I don’t anything from Nars yet, but I really like the pencil eyeshadows and the nail polish!
Karen says
Hey Antonia!
You should try a few of their products — they’re really great. Some ideas: Pro Prime eye primer, Orgasm/Laguna Duo, Lipstick in Dolce Vita, Eyeshadow Duo in Kalahari, Blush in Amour…
Nina says
i am wanting those soft touch eyeshadow pencils … im a sucker for eyeshadow pencils and those colors are so spring-y!
Karen says
They’re a lot of fun. I have Palladium and it wears well beneath Pro Prime.
Nina says
i think im getting them. and another of those pencils that are lipsticks. i < those a lot too!
Makeup fan says
OOOH love the name Hollywoodland! Can’t wait to see swatches of this collection. 🙂 I’m so glad I picked up the super orgasm lip gloss when I was in the States.
Amber says
I’m so surprised to see the neutral trio. It’s gorgeous! This looks like a nice collection, something for everyone.
Karen says
Me too. I was expecting something edgier along the lines of the Okinawa trio from holiday, and this one is super wearable. I love it already. 🙂
Ariel says
The trio looks totally wearable. I like Hollywoodland, but I’m not a fan of the way the shadow pencils perform (creasing!). Wasn’t NARS coming out with a tinted moisturizer this spring?
Marie says
I thought so too. I think they’ll be released shortly after the spring collection. Nars usually presents new products a few weeks after the seasonal collections.
But I can be wrong; I’m not really sure.
Karen says
Yeah — NARS Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturizer. There’s been talk of it coming out in February!
Marie says
Thanks for the info. 🙂
Do you know, by any chance, if there are gonna be a few shades or as many as the foundations?
Lindsay a.k.a. RVAfashionista says
I’m normally not a nail polish gal except for wearing it on my toes but wow, Desperado seems like such a pretty color! I’m curious to see what the texture is for the shadow pencils. I’m already envisioning the green one paired with M.A.C.’s Lucky Green Eyeshadow. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lindsay,
I have Palladium from Fall 2010 and it has a really nice texture — really creamy, moveable and blendable.
Lindsay a.k.a. RVAfashionista says
Good deal! Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
Kim says
I’m really interested to see what Celebrate will look like when swatched. It’s an interesting color choice. Love the name Bateau Ivre, btw. 🙂
Karen says
Me too. If I had a makeup line it would inspire me to name one of my eyeshadow duos “Booze Cruise.” Haha!
Kim says
I would buy that in a second! We live on a lake and when I was in my early 20s they used to run booze cruises every Tuesday night that were mostly attended by the college crowd/local waitstaff. I loved those! Except for the bathroom lines. There was literally one women’s bathroom for about 100 gals. Drinking heavily. On a 2-hour cruise.
Gaelle says
Love the Calanque! Even if I don’t understand why they call it that way…
Here is a calanque in south of France : http://www.pneuboat.com/fond_ecran/boulas/calanque_sormiou.jpg
Karen says
Oh my gosh, that’s beautiful. I wish we were all there right now! It’s foggy and cold here today. 🙁
Chanel says
I really like this collection but I am with you Karen. I am a little disappointed that there will not be a new blush in the Spring collection 🙁 I want to get both of the soft touch shadow pencil. I love the colors.
Timeisha says
I want Calanque trio, both eye duos, all three lip glosses because I’ve been eyeing Super Orgasm and Angelika anyway and I’m a sucker for bright pinks and purples, and then the Celebrate soft touch pencil, looks like a fun green! I will be using my Sephora gift card soon that I received for X-Mas. 🙂
Glosslizard says
Whoah (channeling Keanu Reeves)! I love the idea of neutral eyes and bold lips with Calanque and Nana! I can’t wait to see swatches!
Trisha says
NO blushes? Hmm, that’s pretty surprising. I think NARS is known best for their blushes.
Saffron says
Auugh I’m dying to see these now! This collection looks like it’ll be epic for us redheads (lavender, olive, chartruese – my best colors!). Doesn’t NARS make the best collections ever? No blandass analogous color schemes but wild and creative stuff!
Amelia says
As a NARS afficiendo, I’m a little disappointed about this collection…I had my hopes up after fall/holiday was so amazing. Will probably be getting that dark blueberry gloss and the Nouveau Monde eye duo at least though!
Ru says
Wow, where does NARS go by putting a $45 pricetag on a eyeshadow trio. Sorry, I know how buttery and beautiful their e/s are, but for $45 I bought myself the Naked Palette.
I’m curious how Hollywoodland fares with UD MCRA Shadowstick… looks similar.
Alex says
Those lipsticks are absolutely gorgeous!
Leah says
OMG @ Calanque. MUST have it.
M. says
karen,
will you be doing a look with this spring collection, I like the trio and eye pencils.
Nikki says
I am so excited!!!
Chris25 says
The eyeshadows are reeling me in, and I like the look of that Nana lipgloss!
Aida says
And I thought the Holidays collection was great, this has the potential to be just as good. I am loving Nars more and more, I am on a budget recently so I will be saving for Nars Calanque, Nana and the lipstick but I am missing a blush….the eyeshadow duos are nice and all but I want a new blush
Inez says
I think im in love with those lipglosses!
Maggie says
I want that trio!!
Nikolas says
Heyyyy Karen 🙂 I really like the Calanque Trio and the Madere lipstick… You can never really have too many neutrals in these shades 🙂
