MY BEST:
Monday’s unusually great hair day! 🙂 Oh, and my skin finally cleared up after a two-week-long breakout.
MY WORST:
The moment of dead silence after I accidentally dropped my pan of MAC Blue Sorcery eyeshadow on the kitchen floor. It was like watching the Matrix, seeing the pan fall in slow motion, except that I was powerless to stop it… Poor thing didn’t stand a chance.
What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

My worst: Some breakouts appeared on my face on Monday but fortunately they start to clear out now.
My best: Buying the Make Up For Ever HD foundation that managed to hide my breakouts and I temporary changed my hairstyle from straight with bangs to curly waves 🙂

I honestly don’t think I’ve had a good beauty experience this week, which is pretty pathetic.
My worst was just spending ten minutes recording my first tutorial for You Tube and figuring out (too late) that the lighting in this room makes it pointless and that the video is 38 seconds long and there isn’t anything I can easily edit out. DELETE. *sigh*

Worst: it seems I’m on board with some of you ladies… the weather or stress or *something* is being unkind to my skin, because there are a few blemishes I would’ve rather avoided.
Best: rediscovering a Clinique lipstick I forgot I had. Yay!
Karen, I saw the photo of the broken pan… you have my sympathy. 🙁

Worst: My face is breaking out too. Normally I get one breakout every two or three weeks, but I’m getting loads of small ones this week. I think its the quick change in climate- it got really dry and cold out very quickly!
Best: I got Sally Hansen by Carmindy’s Holiday Boxes. They have three or so items in each and are much cheaper. My favorite was the Moisture Plump Lip Balm ones- worth almost $30, and I got them together for $7. Plus, they are pigmented and really do work!
Gracie says
Best: Discovering Rubenesque paint pot by Mac. OMG LOVE!!
Worst: Ugh….acne. I always have acne but it’s always my beauty worst. It’s sort of starting to get better, but my face is still reddish and has pimples all over it. ugh…

Best – two bests actually. Discovered the relatively new Chanel cleanser/exfoliator combo – $45!!!for HUGE tube & takes a tiny bit it may last for a year! No kidding – in 5 days- blemishes AND whiteheads GONE!! Miracle stuff!
The new Chanel eyeliner wet/dry powder duo in Celadon. Prettiest greens ever!
Worst – broke a nail down to the quick on the way to a manicure. Ouch!

Best: I would have to say trying out the MAC MSF in Medium – I bought this last night at Nordstrom. We’ll see how it does on my very senstivie skin this week. Although I have a lighter complexion, the darker color helped take away some of the redness from my rosacea.
Worst: Trying to use the Stila Smudge Pot in Kitten. Just didn’t work for me as a shadow, liner, or highlighter. Returned it last night to Sephora and got an eye liner by Urban Decay and a small bottle of Frederic Fekkai glaze (small bottles were $5 each).

best:fiding almay’s bronze eyeliner!!! i loveee it!!!
worst: figuring out that my new mascara flakes A LOT. any suggestions for a new one?
and that mac pan on the floor–bummer! but you can still use it! what did tabs do?

My best beauty moment of the week was finally getting my eyebrows shaped since July! (Shhhh, even the technician cringed. lol.) Even better, I took my 2.5 year old with me and she just sat there singing her ABCs over and over until it was done. Totally cooperative babe she was.
My worst beauty moment came when I tried one of Bobbi Brown’s latest eyeshadow palettes. I never tried any of her make up before, so I was super stoked. It looked so vibrant in the package and it went on so softly that I was hoping for something super awesome! Well, it was just kind of dull. I don’t like NATURAL beauty. If I’m going to wear make-up, damnit I want you to see me wearing make up. lol. (In lieu of that, my local Duane Reade drugstore started carrying these awesome brightly colored liquid liners with matching mascara. I was moved to inaction because I didn’t know which one to buy! Teal? Aqua? Copper? Eggplant?)

Best: discovering the wonders of Benefit’s creaseless cream eyeshadow/liner. I’m really loving it for those mornings where I’m in a hurry and these come handy for a lovely wash of colour on the lids. And really – creaseless even without UDPP!
Worst: I recently just finished a bout of nasty breakouts that I’m pretty sure it was because of the weather.
Sorry to hear about the MAC tragedy. I recently dropped my Urban Decay blush and it exploded too. Hate it when that happens!

For me… worst would probably have to be the continued residence of this horrible cystic acne on my face. Sounds like a lot of ladies are struggling with acne right now, probably because of the changes in weather, but I think mine is compounded by the lack of sleep and stress I’ve been dealing with in the last month or so. I haven’t had acne nearly this bad since I was in 7th grade so it’s really rather upsetting to me. =/
And ooooh, I can’t choose the best LOL.
First, at the Sephora VIB event one of my fav SAs greeted me with “Oh you made it! It wouldn’t have been the same if you hadn’t come in tonight!” (which I think means that I come in too often LOL) but it was a really fun night. I didn’t buy anything, but commented that I had’t gotten the clutch w/ samples while my BFF was checking out (I spent $74 ish the last day of F&F in-store and then went home to find the brochure with promo offer) and the SA at the counter asked me what happened and then just rung one up for me for nothing! So nice of her!
And then, I got complimented on my nails a few times while shopping yesterday and got to tell everyone it was a $3.05 including tax L.A. Girls polish I’d dug out of a bin at F21. It is positively gorgeous though! 😀

yesterday’s entire morning was a best beauty moment, bcs i joined my girls at the honolulu nordstrom makeup trend show & we got makeovers at mac. i also scored the nars multiple coffret, which has minis of orgasm, copacabana and south beach for $40. the big surprise was coming across a benefit set of two full sized creaseless cream eyeshadows in recess & honeybunny–for the teensy tiny price of $10 total!
worst beauty moment last week was pretty much every other part of the week. i’ve been sick w/walking pneumonia and until the meds kicked in and cleared up both the fluid and inflammation in my lungs, i was a wheezy hacking hag with sullen eyes and lackluster skin. ew!
nai says
oops! i should mention i scored the nars & benefit products at sephora, not nordies. i think the multiple coffret & the ten dollar benefit eyeshadow special might be exclusives to sephora. i didn’t want to lead anyone astray!

Best: I discovered the wonder that is MAC. I had never tried any MAC products now, but the Studio Tech foundation and the mascara have completely won me over.
Worst: My hair has look awful lately, but a haircut yesterday has helped things immensely.

I can’t think of anything that qualifies as “worst,” except for spending money at Sephora when I was on a self imposed makeup brand. I was going to challenge myself not to buy cosmetics until January, with the exception of skin care items. However, Sephora decided to send me a VIB 20% coupon. So a spent! Which also brings me to my best…
Best is that I saved $13.00 on the Tarte Treasure Chest at Sephora with my 20% off VIB coupon. I always wanted to try something from Tarte and I thought here is my chance to try multiple items in a bulk price. It worked out to be a little over $1 for 58 pieces of makeup. I haven’t played around with the Treasure Chest yet, but from playing around in Sephora, I really like the quality of the powder products.

Best: getting complimented on my eyeshadow blend (UD’s Sellout, Jinx, and Sphynx from the BoSII) from a STRAIGHT GUY friend. I was like wow, you noticed? Thanks!
Worst: Aunt Flo’s coming in for her monthly visit soon, so I’ve been feeling bloated. I even wore yoga pants in place of jeans so I’d feel more comfortable. Sigh.

Worst: painting my nails bright red without a basecoat! What. Was. I. Thinking?!
Best: drugstore find CG liquid to powder compact for my purse

Emma–I’ve had very good luck with Lancome Hypnose Waterproof. That stuff stays put. The only downside is that it stays put when you want it to come off.

The best was creating an eye look in bright teal and turquoise for going to a rock show for the Most Beautiful Losers, if you like rock, check them out. I definitely stood out among the other rock girls. I think we got photographic evidence of it for the magazine my boyfriend works for of me with the band.
The worst was after the show and my boyfriend and I got into a huge, huge fight and I wound up looking very a la Alice Cooper. Not a good one.

Best: Finally ordering a full size of Aromaleigh “Verve” blush (a dupe for Nars “Orgasm”)
Worst: I had a breast reduction (H cup to D cup) last July and finally went back on my birth control a few weeks ago. I realized this week that it was causing my breasts to grow 2 cup sizes and a lot of my hair to fall out! I stopped it this week and they already shank. So it’s turning into a good beauty experience after all!

Best: Rediscovering my Clinique “Peacock” eyeshadow. It’s a gorgeous deep green that got lost in the mix. Thankfully, I brought it out into the light again.
Worst: My acne stinks. I just exchanged my Ole Henrikson cleanser for a DDF one so hopefully life will get better from here.
Sorry about your MAC e/s 🙁
DonnaN says
whew, so glad this week is O-VA!! I had more lows than highs, so here’s hoping for the reverse next week.
Worst:
two-way tie
1)my complete mop-mess of a head of hair…I MUST get a new look…
2)the strange hives I broke into after a random combination of face products (Ole Henricksen’s Truth Serum, Ole Henricksen’s Skin Insulator; MUFE’s HD Primer and Hard Candy’s Tinted Moisturizer)…took all day for my skin to calm down after the panicked face washing
Best:
1)Finding out that I’ve finally gained VIB status at Sephora (SCORE!)
2)Discovering the WONDER of MAC….I think the custom-PRO palettes are my new FAVORITE thing!!!

This week was all about the lips…
Worst: My tube of Blood Red (DSquared2 for MAC) broke and I I had to melt it down into a sample jar. I added a drop of mineral oil, so now it works as a mock-Tinted Lip Conditioner now
Best: Buying Utter Fun lipstick from MAC’s holiday collection. It’s the perfect shade of hot pink that I’ve been searching for!

Hmmm.
Best: Meeting the MOST FUN MAC artist at the counter at one of my local Macy’s. She was totally down to earth and cool and re-did my eyes in a look I’d never have come up with on my own. I really felt like I learned something about how to use a crease brush!
Worst: I think they should’ve called Retin-A Micro “Retin-A Turbo.” I started it last Friday and thought, well, I’ve been using regular Retin-A, I can put this on every night like I’ve done with the old stuff. That is distinctly NOT true and my chin was peeling off for a couple days. Not a good look for work!

Best: Just placing my YSL order.
Worst: Not receiving my YSL order on Friday and having to wait until tomorrow.
A monster hormonal zit on my forehead is quite a burden for me also !

Best: Sephora VIB sale! Loads of goodies I’ve been eyeing for awhile made their way to the checkout with me.
Worst: Getting my China Glaze haul, yet realizing a lot of the colors are a lot like the ones I picked up from Forever 21. As well, my nails do not seem to like Flying Dragon. I did skittle nails (one side LA Girls Flare from F21 and the other side China Glaze) and out of all the colors, Flying Dragon is chipping even though I’ve used Seche Vite base and top coat 🙁
