Traveling Light

My good friend Jen gets hitched in Florida next month, and I can’t wait! I’m looking forward to the wedding, but I’m not looking forward to packing.

Why? Because I overpack (hey, I like options) — always have — but not this time. This time, come hell or high water, I’m going to streamline. :)

To manage my makeup better than I usually do, I thought I’d bring along some palettes — just two (or three or four!). Today, I interviewed the first applicant for the job: Stila Front Cover Look No. 4.

I’m Jen’s matron of honor (I’m still not sure what matrons do). Both my bridesmaid dress and shoes are gold, so I’d like my makeup to complement them. As far as how bold a look I can get away with, it’s an afternoon church ceremony, which means nothing too disco or drag queen (oh, well).

There Are 4 Stila Front Cover Look Palettes

Look No. 4 is one of four limited edition Front Cover Look palettes by Stila. They’ve been out for a while (not exactly sure when they came out), and I had to get a little creative to find this one. Each includes three eyeshadows, a blush and one lipgloss, all packaged in a slim case with magazine motif.

Gotta Love Beautycrunch.com

Looks No. 2 and 3 are still available on the Stila website for $40 each. I decided to check beautycrunch.com for the No. 4 and BINGO! There it was, for $14!

The Front Cover Look No. 3 palette makes an appearance in this Face of the Day.

I love No. 4’s neutral peachy pink and brown…

Stila Front Cover Look No. 4

  • Nude eyeshadow: a matte peach-beige with large flecks of silver glitter
  • Icon eyeshadow: a shimmery pink peach
  • Twig eyeshadow: a shimmery rich chocolate
  • Heat blush: a peachy tan matte
  • Inviting lipgloss: a shimmery peach gloss with gold and silver glitter

I did this look while watching Ben Affleck pretend to cry 8 times in Jersey Girl this afternoon. Pretty good movie except for Ben’s crying. Dude just does not know how to fake cry.

So, I like the softness and colors of this look, but I dunno if it’s right for a special occasion… Can I get your input? What would you wear with a pale gold dress and shoes?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I like how soft and pretty this looks. Maybe this for the ceremony in the afternoon and then bring a brush and darker color to smoke it out a little for the evening/reception?

I’d probably bring 2-3 palettes and wait until I see how the bride’s makeup is before doing my blush and shadow and keep mine on par or scaled down from hers so that it’s not going to detract from her in any way.

Ooh, maybe a gold/bronze as one of the palettes that go with you. I forgot about the gold dress. Curious as to how “gold” that baby’s going to be. I keep picturing Tina Turner. Haha.

I love how pretty this is! If only beautycrunch shipped to Canada, XD; I agree with waiting to see how the bride is doing her make-up before doing yours. When my friend got married, all her bridesmaids had the exact same makeup (in that case, a blue smoky eye). So maybe she has colours in mind?

Karen, you look great in these colors. I think they would compliment gold very well. Do you have a gold highlighter? I would sweep a swipe or two across your cheekbones, just to give this some more dimension.

I really like the look (so pretty), but I think with a pale gold dress, maybe gold/bronze eyes and dark pink lips would look nice too.

Have you seen this look on the MAC site? http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/looks/look.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY31155

I think you could rock it with that outfit.

I completely love this look. It’s so pretty looking. I think it’s perfect for an afternoon wedding. If you wanted to make it a little more made up, I think I’d opt for a slightly darker lip color, like a berry shade that seems to be really popular lately.

I love that palette, twig and icon are such pretty colors. I may have to go buy one, I mean, for $14 I’m sort of saving money, right? :P I bought a pop beauty wallet on that site whenever you first mentioned it on your blog. I was like literally less than half price. Gotta love it!

It’s pretty. If your dress and shoes are the focal points, I think the makeup should be light. Yeah, I always overpack and it’s a bad habit to get rid of. I think a darker lip color is better since lips tend to disappear in pictures.

Hey Karen! I think the eye look is good. I agree with a lot of people here…if you can get the lips a little bolder, it would look great. Maybe brown with some red undertones and shimmer? Can’t think of a color right now, I just woke up, LOL.

hey there. I love stila eyeshadows! this is a great palette, and great look on you. But, yeah, my 2 cents….for a wedding I’d “do it up” a little more.

What I would do: sheer gold wash, gel liner in dark brown or an off black, something like the almost black bobbi brown liners, glowy cheeks, and lipstick and gloss in a darker color. When I’ve been a bridesmaid I like to coordinate my lippie to the colors of the wedding party/flowers/etc. You just want to remember to be classic and that you will be in lots of photos!

I just got some new palettes for travel too…the tarte day to night eye coutoure and bobbi brown moon rock long wear. I think between just these 2 I can do many, many eye looks for the cruise.

Love this look on you. Of course I highly approve of the Icon shadow (my baby!! hehe)
I think this would be a great look for the afternoon ceremony. Nothing too sassy or drag-like. And as said, you could smoke it out a bit more for the evening party?

    Hey Ms K!
I would do a statement lip – like in red or wine with the soft neutral eye in your example pic.

I agree with the person who recommended a gold highlighter to jazz it up a little! I know it’s going to be in a church in the afternoon, but if you’re going to be wearing gold, why not be a bit ostentatious with your makeup, too?

  15. 15. Susan said, on October 20th, 2008:

Very pretty! I might step up the lip color a bit, maybe a bit deeper color, but it looks very good on you and will be great for an afternoon church wedding.
