If I can’t come back in my next life as Wonder Woman, I’m sure as hell coming back as a Vegas showgirl. ‘Cause it ain’t happening in this lifetime, that’s for damned sure. I’ve got the flexibility of a concrete pretzel and a high kick that barely clears the height of a footstool.
But you know what? Even though I will (probably) never don a big feathered headdress and dance around in a sparkly outfit on a Vegas stage, at least I can say that in this life, in the summer of 2014, I will have glittered and sparkled, and for that, I gotta give big ups to Urban Decay.
The Heavy Metal Loose Glitters in their new summer collection are so bling, so BAM! — that you sparkle all day and night LIKE YOU FRICKIN’ MEAN IT, MAN, when you wear them on your eyes.
They’re coming soon to UD counters but glittering now online with the rest of the summer collection.
Lots of fun things to play with here. Along with the six loose glitters, there’s also a weightless liquid glitter glue (to keep your glitter in place), a crop of several new liners for smokey eye looks and two new polishes (there’s also a small polish kit not shown here).
Are you ready for a quick tour? Here, take my hand… 🙂
Heavy Metal Loose Glitters ($12 each)
These are my favorite things in the launch! Even if you don’t fancy yourself as a glitter gal/guy, you still may want to boogie down with these.
They’re just so fun and sparkly! — and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. 🙂
The flecks of glitter are bigger than the flecks in Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners, so I’m warning you — brace yourself for major glitz.
Here’s the idea: you’re supposed to apply a small amount of Urban Decay’s clear Bondage makeup adhesive ($14) to your lids (or wherever else you’d like to wear loose glitter) first, and then pack your choice of glitters on top.
Once the glue dries, that glitter isn’t going anywhere.
I appreciate the sifter caps, too, which make it easy to regulate how much glitter I’m using. Don’t forget to remove the tape that covers the holes the first time you open it, though, because I didn’t see it at first and kept wondering, “Hmm… Why isn’t the glitter coming out?” I was just about to bite the sifter when I noticed the tape, haha! #schoolforthegifted
Also, if you plan to line your eyes with one of the new liners in the launch, you may want to do your liner before applying your glitter.
Why? Oh, because I think it’s just a really, REALLY big pain to apply liner on top of glitter. I’m just sayin’… Save yourself the drama by lining first.
Nail Colors in Chaos and Bang ($15 each)
Is it just me, or do these two colors scream “sports team?”
I dunno… Don’t they look like sports team colors?
Both of these new summer polishes look like creams from far away, but secret shimmer shines through when you see them up close.
Super-Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner in Perversion ($22)
A girl can never have too many potted black eyeliners, am I right? 🙂
This one’s a little unusual in that it’s actually a cream, as opposed to a gel, and it feels lighter and fluffier than most gels do to me. I think it’s also a little easier to manipulate, especially if you want smudged, soft edges.
The formula stays “wet” for a good 10-15 minutes, too, so you have a lot time to play if you want to blend and buff.
I bet it would make a brilliant base for smokey eyes…
Perversion Angled Brush ($16)
And to apply your liner (whether cream or gel), how about a synthetic angled brush?
Perversion’s bristles seem a little stubbier and denser than the bristles on the average angled brush, and that allows me to get razor sharp edges with it.
Cool.
24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet ($20)
I’ve been a fan of UD’s regular Glide-On Eye Pencils, and I like this version, Velvet, just as much. Soft and buttery like the other pencils in the fam, the Velvets are designed to smudge and smoke out. Black Velvet’s finish is matte, but it’s not a stark matte.
“Black velvet and that little boy’s smile. Black velvet with that slow southern style…”
Sorry! “Black velvet…if you please.” LOL!
All Nighter Eyeliner in Perversion ($20)
This matte black twist-up pencil has serious wherewithal. It doesn’t move once it’s on, and the skinny tip really gets down there in the roots between my lashes. Great for smokey eyes.
Bondage Weightless Makeup Adhesive ($14)
When this clear glitter glue gets hold of sparkly stuff, it does not let go.
Ink for Eyes in Waterproof Precision Eye Pen ($20)
Nice and dark and black and shiny. But this jet-black liquid liner’s felt tip is a little on the stiffer side…
Swatches on my NC42 skin…
One word: glittery. And I know that glitter’s not for everyone, but I am looking forward to doing some looks with this collection (and wearing glitter to Trader Joe’s).
What do you think? Are you gonna go for the glitter this year?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Agata says
I love those glitters although I’m not sure where I’d wear them…The nail polishes are totally Detroit Tigers colors! And I love that eyeliner brush. I cannot wait to see what looks you’re going to create with these glitters.
Karen says
OH GOSH…so I knew those colors looked familiar, LOL!
Happy Friday, my friend. 🙂 What’s the plan for the weekend?
Alison M says
The glitters make me want to scrapbook 😀 The nail polishes do catch my attention though.
Karen says
I didn’t know you were a scrapbooker, Alison! How long have you been doing it?
Mishell (Shelley) says
I neeeeeed that loose glitter in my life!
Karen says
Yes you do! Have you ever worn UD’s glitter liners? They’re great, too.
Mishell (Shelley) says
Yes, they’re pretty freaking amazing 🙂 I’m having palpitations just thinking about it. Which reminds me, I gotta break those out again soon.
Lexie says
The glitters are gorgeous! I am gonna have to get them all!
Karen says
Yay, Lexie! Glad you are liking the sparkly stuff.
hanna says
I want all that glitter
Karen says
Ha!
madeline Richmond says
That Bang nail color is calling my name! and so is that Loaded glitter…
Karen says
Hi Madeline,
I’m feeling that nail color too. The shade is very in right now!
Molly says
Yeah those nail colors do look sporty. Interesting you swatches them on your skin, that’s different. I see the shimmer in them though.
I really like your description of the pot eyeliner. I find gel to be a bit too stiff, so this sounds good as well as the brush!
I am a sucker for glitter but realize I need to lay off the purchasing of it because I don’t really have any excuse to wear it :/
Karen says
Hi Molly,
Right?! The nail colors make me want to wear a jersey and start cheering, haha.
So, I think you will really like the cream liner. It’s very soft and easy to manipulate. Do you wear liner often? You could easily use it for both regular liner and as a base for smokey looks.
Happy Friday!
Sadie says
I want to love the glitter but it just reminds me of the glitter I used to put on the outside of my eyes when I was a freshman in college. I’m not sure I need to revisit that time! Looking forward to see how they can be used so I can shake my bad associations with glitter as makeup.
Karen says
Hi Sadie,
I think that there’s a totally wearable way to rock the glitter…no really! I’ll probably just pop it on my lids for some extra sparkle. 🙂
Happy Friday!
Rhea says
The polishes look great for summer but seem easily dupable:/ But.. The glitter is intense and great!

Karen says
So happy that I’m not the only one captivated by the glitter, Rhea! 🙂
Casey says
Can you PLEASE do a look with that glitter? 😀
Karen says
Heck yeah, Casey! 😀
What else from the collection catches your eye?
Ankita@corallista says
The cream liner packs some serious pigment! I’m on the fence about these glitters. I normally like it but these seem really chunky and a tad difficult to use. Would love to see how you use that glitter.
Karen says
Hi Ankita,
I think the chunkiness makes it kinda fun…I mean, I probably wouldn’t wear it to a job interview or anything, but Vegas? HECK YEAH!
Nancy says
I love the Urban Decay 24/7 pencils, these are the best. The only ones that last all day long, on my oily skin. I’m not feeling the glitter at all.
Karen says
Hi Nancy,
I love their pencils, too, especially the neutrals with a twist. Do you have the shade called Bourbon? It is one of my faves.
Hope you’re having a nice day so far!
glittergirley says
Alright Karen, you GOTTA do a look with that glitter! Is there a subtle way for a 30something girl to wear glitter and not look like she’s trying to relive her youth? Literally the last time I wore glitter was as a freshman at UCD (go Aggies!) Back in ’99 and maybe once in Vegas in my early 20s (back when that brand tony & tina was still around, and they were the few companies that made glitter makeup)
Karen says
OMG…you went to UC Davis? I did too!
thatiane gomes says
karen love glitter cream over this perversion is what I most desire in life along with the applicator brush: is it good like the mac 266 angled nars laura mercier?
Karen says
Hi Thatiane,
I think they’re all great brushes. You can’t really go wrong with any of them!
Kate & Zena says
Gliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitter. <-Glitter lover
Grace says
Oh my gosh I need that cream liner & that brush!! Those glitters are stunning, I don’t know how much I would use them though :/ #studentproblems
Sarah says
I love the glitter! That is perfect on the eyes for a night out!
Katlyn says
The glitters look like a lot of fun! I’m definitely picking up the bondage adhesive, I have a bunch of MAC loose glitters I haven’t used in awhile i’d love to try with them. Have you tried the adhesive and glitter over a shadow or pigment yet? Would be interested to see how they layer over the shades in the new electric palette! ♥
Cindy says
oh boy! I don’t like those huge glitters. Looks like they would irritate my eyes.. maybe only for Halloween.
