A couple weeks ago Urban Decay started a revolution. They unleashed a new line of lipsticks unto the world and their permanent collection — the Revolution Lipsticks — and I kid you not, I’ve been wearing them almost every day since.
Renowned for their iconic palettes (hello, Naked!) and eyeshadow singles, UD decided to show some love to lips, and mine certainly love what they’ve done here. This new line of 22 lipsticks keeps the brand firmly near the front of the pack.
Costing $22 each but looking and feeling more extravagant than that, they seem like a bargain next to lippies from Tom Ford and Dolce & Gabbana.
With their concentrated pigments and creamy, smooth formula, even colors that can normally be tricky and uneven, like beiges and pale neutral pinks, apply without a hitch. A single swipe is all it takes.
I find myself having to reapply them after meals, but they easily handle tea. Between meals, I get at least 4-5 hours from them.
Thicker and creamier than Urban Decay’s old lipsticks — the ones with the swirls on the packaging and the silver dagger — they feel more significant (and better) on my lips, but aren’t what I’d call heavy. Not like a ton of product plastered on my pout. I think of them as lipsticks for lipsticks lovers, but if you gravitate toward featherweight glosses and lip colors that look barely there, these are probably not what you need.
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick ($22 each)
Oh, and do you remember the gnarly (I thought so) brown sugar flavor and scent of UD’s old lipsticks? Gone. They swapped it for a pleasantly faint vanilla that fades fast.
As far as downsides, they don’t quench my lips if they’re extra thirsty, but at least they apply so smoothly that they don’t emphasize dry spots or flakes.
I was kind of surprised not to see any cray-cray lip colors, goth black shades, or anything really hard edged or filled with big chunks of glitter. Not that I’m complaining. I think there’s a nice, wide range of wearable, flattering brights and neutrals here.
It just seems…unusual to see so many conservative colors from UD at the same time. Maybe they’re trying to hook gals/guys who fell hard for Naked and Naked2.
Being cuckoo for coral, I would’ve liked to see more warm shades, as many of these lean cool and neutral, but hey, there’s always next time. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a future limited edition release.
I think UD’s got a winner here with creamy, comfortable, super saturated colors and downright elegant packaging for just $22. Good job, guys.

Yup, not enough coral!?
Also, many of these shades look quite similar in lip swatches :(. Not to say that they are not pretty-the berry, red and darker pink shades actually look quite lush!
Is there any shade that you can’t carry off, girlie? Even the

Hi Musical,
I know, right? Needs more CORAL!
Do you think you might check any of these out?
Your nephew sends his love, btw. He’s sitting on my desk right now, threatening me with claws if I don’t feed him gravy soon.

VENOM!!! LOVE that shade!! And Anarchy! They all look great on you! I’m ok with all the cool shades, as that’s what I need lately since going grey. 🙂

Um, can we get a WOW! over here? You make these look (and sound) so good, Karen — I thought I was going to pass on the entire range, but now I’m having second thoughts! Creamy, pigmented, and neutral-cool… these sound like they’ll be right up my alley 😀

I was sad that there was no straight up purple, and I would have liked to see a new Oilslick and Midnight Cowboy, but Anarchy stole my heart! Such a great color. I had someone ask me ‘what lip tar are you wearing?’ and they were shocked when I said it was Urban Decay!

Love the lush berry pinks and reds but I agree with you about the lack of warmer colors!

You missed your calling as a lipstick model. Everything always looks good on you! 🙂 I think Manic is my fave (for me) but I can’t even consider lipstick in this weather. I’ll need to wait for fall!
Btw, I know you’ve been getting nice weather but it’s in the 90s here with like 99% humidity(at least that’s what it feels like) and it’s sucking the life out of everyone! At least we can’t complain about a cool or rainy summer. 🙂

These all look amazing on you, especially the bolder colors! Obsessed looks like the type of color I am typically, um, obsessed with. Might have to give these a try.

I’ve been Mia on this blog forever! Been playing catch up! In loving these new colors, I agree though they are pretty tame for UD. They’re all pretty wearable, although I’m not sold on Naked2. Kinda would love to see a purple or a neon something vibrant that’s a little out there though. Loving you Karen, I’ve missed it here
