And then there were three…
Thrice as naked.
More naked than you’ve ever been before! (Well…)
Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! No, not really. But it is the third coming of Urban Decay’s famous Naked palette, appropriately named Naked3 ($54).
First impressions: WOW! I have been literally champing at the bit to see this palette in person, and so far I have not been disappointed by it.
The 12 all-new neutrals, all of which have rose tones, come in UD’s typically soft, easy-to-blend formula (and matte, pearl and glimmering metallic finishes). Sure, that means there’s some fallout, but on the flip-side, the shadows are ridiculously easy to blend, and if you do your eyes first, clean up, and continue with your face makeup, it’s all good.
I think the colors are definitely different enough from the shades in the O.G. Naked palettes (one and two) to make this one worth considering.
Many of the shades have a purplish taupe tint to them, at least on my skin, which I like. I think they’ll go well with purple smokey eyes and other purple looks. I have a strong suspicion they’ll also complement bronze and gold shadows nicely.
For the most part, I think these are neutral enough to work well on cool and warm skin tones, but if you’re on the far warm end of that spectrum, you may want to work in your own mattes for transition colors, because some of these shades, like Nooner and Limit — those might be a tad too cool-toned.
I’m really jazzed about the colors on the far right, the darker colors. Those are gonna be a blast to play with in smokey eyes.
Of course, I still love black, brown and purple smokey looks, but I really like the idea of becoming a part-time rose gold smokey eye aficionado.
Rose gold smokey eyes? I just never thought of doing that before.
Cool. 🙂

Oh, K-Dawg. You’ve sold me on this one. I was worried it would be too weird for my skintone (which is basically your skintone!) so I’m happy to see how awesome it looks. My wallet, sadly, is not as enthused…
Karen says
Hey E-boogie,
I was a little worried too at first but was happily thrilled by the swatches…You’ll definitely be able to pull this off. 🙂 I bet if you work some Cork or Soba into there it would be amazing (gonna try that tomorrow).
So many eyeshadows, so little time!
Elle says
Ooooh…Soba and those pinky shades! And I bet Mulch, Ricepaper and maybe even Woodwinked would be great. I am also dying to try my NARS Surabaya duo with these. SIGH. Can’t wait to see more of your stunning looks!
Karen says
Oh, totally. Woodwinked on the lid, Darkside on the outer half, with Soba or Cork swept in the crease. Yummy! Or Soba with a little bit of Buzz, and then Blackheart smudged along the lash lines.
No really…I NEED MORE EYES!!!
Elle says
I laughed out loud at the I NEED MORE EYES comment. Sometimes I look at my eyeshadow collection and wonder how I’ve managed to buy so many items that just go on my eyelids. At least I wear it almost every day, so I feel (somewhat) justified. Whatevs. I love it 🙂
Emma says
Those rose gold shades look SO beautiful on you!! I am a little nervous about pink colors near my eyes, but I’m very much looking forward to this palette anyway :p Otherwise my other two Nakeds would be so lonely!
Karen says
Hi Emma,
Thank you! Ya know, I think I felt the same way when I first started wearing pink eyeshadow, but I think the trick is to finding the right pink. These are really flattering, so you should be okay.
Your Naked and Naked2 palettes will be so happy to have a playmate!
meredith says
Yowza, those dark colors. This might be the naked palette that gets me to buy a naked palette.
Karen says
Hi Meredith,
Yeah, those are the ones that got my heart beating. I seriously can’t wait to do some layering with those colors, especially Blackheart. Smokey eyes, here I come!
Chelsea says
I’ve never bought a Naked palette, but this might be the one for me. Rose golds and plums seem to work on freckly, redhead, me.
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
The lighter shades should look amazing on you! 😀 Perhaps the universe was waiting to send you the perfect Naked palette for your hair color.
Chelsea says
Exactly! Rose gold is my favorite metal (although my wedding/engagement rings are yellow gold), so this is right up my alley.
Karen says
I think it’s wise that you went with gold for your wedding/engagement rings. It’s classic and never goes out of style, you know? Rose gold’s super pretty but I’ve noticed that it does tend to trend up and down. I’m just glad it’s having an up moment, since it’s so flattering on so many people.
If/when you get this you’ll have to send me a pic of you wearing it. And maybe of Jiji and Quincy admiring your eye makeup!
Chelsea says
I’ve been into rose gold since before it was really trendy, mostly because it looks good with the red hair, but yellow really is classic. I have a Rose Gold Michael Kors watch I love though.
I can’t wait to get my wedding photos back, I have a picture of me with Quincy on my chest in my dress and makeup/hair. Jiji was not immortalized in photo because he was hiding from all of the people in our house, LOL.
Karrie says
I Luz it!!! Can’t wait to get it!!
Karen says
Hi Karrie,
Yay! I hope you love it. 🙂 Do you have the Naked and Naked2 palettes? They need a friend…
mara says
I can’t wait to see this palette in real life! I just got the Laura Mercier Artist and I think the colors look horrible on me LOL! I hope to have better luck with this one 😉
Karen says
Hi Mara,
I hope you do too!
Sorry to hear you didn’t like the Laura’s Artist’s Palette. What was it about the colors that you didn’t like? You can always tweak the shades by adding in different shades to warm ’em up, or you could experiment by layering different bases.
Mara says
Hi Karen! I don’t know the shades made my dark circles even darker… I looked tired and older! The horror LOL! I exchange it today for the UD Naked and I’m loving it. I can’t wait to get the Naked 3 now 🙂
Nicole says
I looove these shadows on you!!! Gorgeous!!!
Karen says
Hi Nicole,
Thank you! Do you think you might pick up Naked3?
Chaitra says
Lets hope i get this before they gets sold out 🙂 😀 you never know how fast they will be gone. Like you said karen, love the right half of the palette. <3
Taylor says
Oh wowee! This looks like a must for me! I love taupes and purples! I have #1 and skipped #2 .. This one looks like a stunner though! In love.
Karen says
Girl, you will love those darker shades, then, especially Darkside.
Kim says
This looks so amazing on you!! My fave look I’ve seen w/ this palette so far. I LOVE the 4 deepest shades too. I’ll definitely have to get this.
Karen says
Thanks, Kim. Aren’t those dark shades killer? I can’t wait to do more experimenting and layering with them.
Do you have both Naked and Naked2?
buckycatt says
You lucky lucky lady! Thanks for the preview.
Karen says
You’re welcome, Buckycatt. Let me know if you have any questions about the palette.
hanna says
Those shimmer colors look so good in the swatches.
Karen says
Yup, yup!
Alison M says
Hell. Yes. ‘Nuf said.
Karen says
Hi Alison,
WOOT! Thank you for letting me know about link in the previous post, by the way! I appreciate it.
Alison M says
When it comes to the release date of this palette we all wanna know! So I had a good chuckle at the irony of not being able to find out when it launches 🙂
Agata says
I am in love with this palette. Rose gold look? So perfect! Your looks are absolutely amazing!
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I just knew you’d fall in love with this one! 😀 I want to see you in something really edgy; I bet those darker colors would contrast beautifully with your skin. Add in a nude lip and ooh-la-la! I’d put Buzz or Burnout on your lids, Limit in the crease and then do smoked out liner with Darkside or Blackheart. See, these are the times that I really wish we lived closer. You could be my makeup model and your hubs could be the photographer…
Agata says
You’re so cute. I’d be so thrilled to be your model 😉 when I get this palette I will definitely try the look with shades you suggested.
fancie says
Love the look you created! Naked 3 wasn’t on my radar at all until I saw your swatches. I’ll have to check this out in store though. I hope the colors aren’t too light for my skin
Karen says
Thanks, Fancie. You should be able to pull this palette off. The shades on the far right would look great on you!
Christine says
This is SO going on my Christmas list! I love rosy/pink shadows (fair skin, dark eyes/hair…I think it suits me!). I was never super attracted to the other Naked palettes but this one has me hooked!
natalie says
Karen, you can make anything looks amazing. I never thought rose gold smokey eyes would work, but man, you did it again. Lovely!
Kat says
Whoa Karen these swatches and the looks you created are just amazing. I am so getting the Naked3! I’m an NC42 too and I cannot wait to get my hands on this beautiful palette!
Natasha P. says
SO happy you did this review. My skin tone is almost identical to yours too and I NEEDED to see how these swatched! Looks like I may be able to pull these colors off after all! 😀 Yay!
Denise S says
Gotta say you did a very nice look with this palette! Love the purple, I thought this might be too pink for me but looking at the look you created makes me want to get this. I own Naked 1 and love it deeply, guess I’ll be picking this up asap!
BonnieBeautyxo says
I was waiting to see your swatches so bad Karen! I’m definitely getting it just cause I have the other two naked palettes and the naked basics. Now I feel like I have to get all the naked eyeshadow palettes coming out in the future. Evil!!! haha
Betsy Clark says
Karen, those colors look incredible on you! I can see how they’d work well pretty much with all skin tones and shades. These will also pair up gorgeously with the other Naked palettes. I personally think Tabs would look smashing with a layer of Liar on, you know?
Babsi says
oh wow, Naked 3 🙂 i love it 🙂 xoxo Babsi
Nik says
Lovely! I too was worried about this palette with my skin tone (NC 50 or 55) – but I had the same concern about the second palette. The lighter colors in the second palette actually work well as a eyebrow and inner eye highlight. I am happy with the first two Naked palettes and use them all the time, so I think I’m going to get this one. I think I’ll get some warm matte transition shadows to help with this however.
kristen @ glambunctious says
I love the looks you created, Karen! This palette is definitely on my wish list! The darker purple shades are really appealing. I almost never wear black so the inclusion of dark purples instead of blacks makes my heat flutter. 🙂 Thank you for the review and loverly swatches!
Kim says
I definitely prefer my neutrals on the pinker side, so this palette would be a winner for me (if I could ever be bothered to wear shadow!). 🙂
Jill says
When is it in the stores?? I’m not seeing it online. thanks!
Kristy says
Eeek! I am so skeptical!! It looks soooo good on you but on my fair skin with rosacea covered cheeks, I am terrified I will look like one big pink lollipop. I don’t even usually wear blush because even with foundation, my redness shows through. Then to add it to my eyes? Sigh. I just don’t know. But the palette looks dreamy!!!
breyerchic04 says
Liar and Darkside are taking over my brain, wow pretty shades!
Mya says
These swatches look amazing, and I love the look you created with the palette! I saw some people mentioning on forums that the colors in Naked 3 look similar to those from Lorac’s Unzipped palette. As someone who has worked with and looked at both in person, would you say this is true? I’m curious because I just recently purchased the Unzipped palette and am really drawn to this one too, but am wondering if it’s too similar.
kristen @ glambunctious says
Naked 3 is up for sale on the US Urban Decay site now! 😀
Jasmine says
Hey Karen!
Do you prefer Laura Mericer Artist Palette or Naked 3?
GlamKitty says
Here I am, catching up on a week’s worth of blog posts (I know, I know, but I’ve been busy, grrrrl!), and you hit me with this palette perfection… the one I’ve been dying for!! (Naturally, it’s OoS at the moment, so I’m back on the waiting list for it to come in again, grrrr. )
Anyhoo, it looks GORGEOUS on you… and I’ve got my fingers crossed it’ll perform some similar magic on my porcelain-skinned, green-eyed mug! 🙂
Erin says
So in theory I love the palette. I absolutely love rose golds but am a novice when it comes to utilizing pink tones with my eye shadow. I am pale, with freckles and red hair. Do you have any advice/tips/tricks on the best way to make this palette work for my completion and hair color?
