What’s on the agenda for tonight? Right now I’m just playing around on Facebook and Twitter. Tabs and I are going to watch the latest episode of Glee.

Benefit’s Miss Popularity in the inner corners and a sweep of Stila’s Kitten keep me looking awake on those mornings that seem to come way too early 🙂

I use a LOT of concealer, and a lot of creamy e/s colors, usually taupes or beige– then full mascara (top and bottom) because it makes me look wide eyed (and bushy tailed!)

I find that lighter, more natural eyeshadows with a nice sheen for the lid, white eyeliner for my waterline, and MAC’s Select Moisturecover for my undereye circles are really awesome for hiding the fact that I may be running on only a couple hours of sleep.

i tend to wear more natural eyeshadow shades when i look like a zombie, it brightens up my eyes tons

I’m following @vantalee
katie says
YSL Touche Eclat and Laura Mercier Secret Brighting powder.
Diana Kim says
For my dark circles that give my lack of sleep away, I use a salmon colored concealer to first neutralize the blue. Then I use a concealer a shade or two lighter than my normal skin color to really brighten my eyes. I usually curl my eyelashes to the max and swipe on some lengthening mascara. I usually line my waterline with a white eyeliner to make my eyes appear brighter and open them up a bit. With the same eyeliner, I smudge a little bit into the inner corner. By that point, I dont look too bad…I hope! 🙂
cutie_pie says
i definitely curl my eyelashes and use a lot of mascara. a thin line of eyeliner on the top opens up my eyes, and a more natural eyeshadow like mac all that glitters helps <3
angie says
i line my waterline w/ a white kohl pencil, add plenty of concealer, and add a light shimmery shadow to the inner corners of my eyes
Amanda says
Karen, you have the best giveaways! However, don’t enter me on this one (I already own that eyeshadow and want to give another lady a chance at it!) I just want to comment 🙂
When I don’t get enough sleep (more often than not lately!) I stick to brighter golden shadows, highlighter on my cheek bones to distract from my dark shadows, and lip gloss. Whenever I wear a lot of makeup without sleep I tend to just look worse!
Amanda says
P.S. Cute hair!!
Julia Z. says
pinky-peachy cream shadow all over the lids and concealer..TONS of concealer 😉
Lorraine says
When I haven’t gotten enough sleep I put concealer all over my eyelid to make a good base. Then I use a light eyeshadow shade in the center of my lid to make me seem brighter, contour with dark eyeshadow at the corners and into the crease. I do a double layer of mascara on eyelashes after curling of course 😉 got to open and brighten. Then I put a bit of shine by the tear duct, usually gold eyeshadow or pale yellow, it really does make you look more perky.
Cindy says
I like to wear a champagne color on my lids and mascara to keep the attention away from the dark circles. I’ll use a concealer and highlighter under the eye to brighten the area. And white eyeliner on the waterline.
I wear a peachy blush to draw attention to my cheeks instead of my eyes haha
Tori says
I definitely put on some concealer, usually something with a peachy tint in it to cancel out the purples/blues. Then i would do a very natural eye look including stila’s eye kajal in topaz on the waterline and some golden/white eyeshadow on the inner corner of my eye. For lashes i put to coats of mascara on the top and one coat on the bottom. 🙂
Fabienne says
I go crazy with MAC Cream Colour Base in Fawntastic: I use it as an eyeshadow base (I love the sheen it gives under matte shadows!), a dab on my inner corner, apply it on my cheekbones and along the bridge of my nose, and on my cupid’s bow. I top my lips off with my C.O. Bigelow tinted lip balm in Berry, coat the lashes in L’Oreal Double Extend mascara, tie my hair into a neat bun, and I’m good to go! I love looking dewy while detracting attention from my eyes toward my lips, hehe
Paula Rose says
When I didn’t get enough sleep I definitely use a Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer topped with her Candlelight illuminating powder strategically placed! I use a little concealer brought in around the inner corner of my eyes and a pearly light shadow over my lids and corner of eyes. Hit the eyelash curler and one swipe of mascara and do a bright lip!
Jenna says
concealer definitely, white eyeliner on the waterline and inner corner are a must
anina says
when i don’t get enough sleep, which is often, i usually go more neutral. and a lot of concealer. like half of my whole regimen becomes about the concealer. though on some days, i do a don’t and just pile on the smokey eye, like war paint.

Moisturize (2 layers of it) really well so I can make my skin as plump as possible to prevent dull skin. Apply concealer, especially to the undereye area. Add BLUSH!
eunice =] says
concealer is a must! specially when i dont get enough sleep, the bags under my eyes are dark and i look like someone just punched me to get up from my bed lol. after that i add a tad bit of urban decay’s primer potion [sin] & 24/7 eyeliner .
Babybubblz says
Oh and I ordered the Origins GinZing based on your review! Can’t wait to get it =) Thanks for the recommendation, you always give great ones!!
Synaesthesia says
I don’t think I have enough sleep everyday… haha… so this will be my routine, using I Nuovi Undercover Undereye Concealer in 2Y to cover up my nasty dark circles. 2nd, brighten up my inner eye corner with pastel color such as light pink, white or champagne. 3rd, a thin eyelining at the inner but bold at the outer area. Nevertheless, bright but not striking blushes..
Morgan says
When I don’t get enough sleep (like last night…) I really take time with my concealer. Correcting shades and normal shades. A Little mascara, bronzer and a bright blush and gloss… This takes the focus off my tired eyes. After a REALLY bad night I’ll go for a flesh toned eyeliner on my waterline.
.-= Morgan’s last blog post… Deprived =-.

I use loose shimmery white powder on my inner lids and browbone. A sweep of UD’s midnight cowboy is always fun, I love the silver glitter and shimmery sandy color. Concealer is of course a must, and a white pencil on the waterline usually helps too 🙂
stickles says
Piling on the concealer, but keeping it light otherwise.

Love your new hair cut!
I always look tired without makeup, apparently 🙁 That’s what everyone says, even when I get 10 hours of sleep. SIGH. Anyway, I use Smashbox’s Photo Op under eye brightener, then their camera ready full coverage concealer. Actually, that’s what I use all the time, because of the aforementioned permanent dark circles. I’ve just discovered the power of UD’s eye liner in Yeyo for the inner corners of my eyes.
Ooor… I just embrace it, and go out looking like a zombie.
Hyzenthlay says
Definitely hit my waterline with white liner (UD Yeyo, though it leans white/silver on me). Then I use UDPP in Sin, and a small-as-I-can-get-it line of Bourbon. I’m working on using an TINY TINY line of UD liquid liner in Oil Slick right in the base of my lashes. Definitely no tightlining on those days for me!
I use concealer on my under eyes.
It turns out not great, but it makes me look less dead, so that’s good!
And I LOOOOOOVE your haircut!
S says
I don’t wear a ton of makeup, but on tough mornings I use blush (currently loving Nars Dolce Vita), a quick swipe of Laura Mercier’s Topaz eyeshadow, and a sheer, shimmery lip gloss.

Some extra mascara, careful eye contouring, nice undereye concealing, and Bare Escentuals Warmth all do a good job camouflaging my ridiculous lack of rest! (In fact, I’m planning on using that very trick tomorrow a.m.!)
Smiley says
I use Benefit Recess Cream Shadow, Stila Kitten over that and finish by curling my lashes followed by mascara. NARS Desire blush also helps me look fresh. I never do nude lips when I’m tired, I use like a tinted lip balm or something. 🙂 Love the new hair btw!!

i would wear this awesome eye shadow duo!
but for reals, I use my eye primer/brightener and conceal my dark circles. and i use your tip abotu the light cream shadow and curling lashes + mascara. saves time and makes me look somewhat together!
woot!
adinda says
If I dont have enough time to sleep in next day i used to apply a frosty gold/yellow based eyeshadow under your eyes before concealer. Because it can cover my dark circle under my eyes and brighten my eyes also.
Theresa says
I use some extra mascara and some neutral eyeshadow to help me fake a well-rested look. I got a pack with Recess and Honey Bunny cream shadows from Benefit on sale at Sephora (they were $10.00 total) that are great for helping me look more rested than I really am.
Molly says
The ol’ spoons in the freezer trick for my honkin’ no-sleep eye puffiness, a bit of Clean & Clear eye brightening cream (that stuff is da bomb. 😉 ) as well as white eyeliner. For some reason, my eyes look lopsided when I’m tired, and the white liner helps hide that a bit.
Does it seem weird to anyone else that this means I spend MORE time on my makeup when I’m exhausted? I can’t really get over the irritating hypocrisy of my puffers.
triciac says
I just use a little mascara, and make sure my eyebrows and lips look great. Anything to take away attention from my eyes period.
Ashley says
Same thing as you, I mix my eye gel with a powerful concealer. Curl my lashes, put on some mascara & my eyes just POP. I always line my water line with a shimmery white eyeshadow stick too. There’s not much else I can do. Definitely no blue eyeshadow or anything smokey 😛
By the way, I love what you’ve done to your hair! It’s like a breath of fresh air!

I skip the eyeliner on the bottom lids, and instead just use a thin line of black liquid liner on the top. 🙂 And lighter colors for sure.
(Agree with Ashley, you hair looks great!)
Jenn says
MAC’s Studio Fix concealer under and on the inner corners of my eyes, follow up with Stila’s Kajal liner in Topaz for the waterline. Then curl lashes, mascara, heated eyelash curler, and mascara again! And if I want, I’ll use a white shimmery eyeshadow on the inner corners to make my eyes pop. This does not only make my eyes look bigger, but brighter and more awake as well.
Juanita says
Love the haircut! More pics of that please.
Luckily I don’t get dark circles just lovely blemishes or acne scars to cover up. My makeup routine is the same tired or coherent. Perhaps the Kalahari duo would do the trick! Mentally “tired”, well I just down a ton of coffee and stare thoughtfully at my computer for the first hour of my workday.
Cheska says
When I don’t get enough sleep, I moisturize with my Olay moisturizer (I forgot the name, but it’s the pink one), curl my lashes, and pack on the mascara! ^_^
Kate & Zena says
Concealer, concealer, concealer. I usually wear a white shimmery shadow too.
ezzie says
i use a light flesh-toned eyeliner on my water line (since i have a medium-ish skin tone white eyeliner is a bit too harsh looking) and choose a creamier concealer than i would normally use to realllly hide those dark circles. then i coat my lids with a thin layer of shimmery base (like revlon’s color illuminance cream shadow in skinlights- one of my favorite drugstore buys!) and apply a neutral shade on top of it. then i highlight the inner corners of my eyes with an off-white pearly shadow, curl my lashes, add some mascara and KAZAMM- i look like i got 8 hours of sleep 🙂
Liz says
After reading your blog, I got myself MAC MES in Love Connection. I always reach for it whenever I need to fake “good night’s rest.” And, of course, concealer!

When I don’t get enough sleep, I like using pale pink cream eyeshadow since it opens my eyes up so I look for alert. Then I make sure I use concealer for any bags under my eyes and from one of your older posts, I fell in love with benefit’s high beam, which I use to make my face look brighter.

um…i play up the whole sleepless college bum beauty look…nah, when i have to step it up- i conceal the undereyes and THEN prime the lids (so all my hard work doesn’t go to waste) and then use a pale pink cream eyeshadow (from the shu uemura rose palette, i think i bought it cause i saw it in the blog, best purchase ever) and line the upper lids with either bourbon ud or that eggplant color from ud and then line then line the waterline with honey ud liner and smudge it to the bottom lashline. ooh, and i also hit the inner eye corners with the honey and the pink, so it creates a halo like finish! this is getting long, so i’m going to stop…but the kalahari eyeshadows are gorgeous and i adore ur blog =)

i definitely have to use concealer. Love my Clinique concealer. Also using a light color (champagne) to line my entire bottom line really brightens up my face.

After I have had my morning jolt of caffeine :-). I use Benefit erase paste to cover my dark circles and a loose powder to set. Once I have finished my eye with Urban Decay sin eyeshadow and Cargo saucelito in the crease, I use Tarte rest assured brightening wand. I use the liner on my water line and then use the highlighter in the corner of my eyes. Works every time!!

Happy Wednesday! The hair looks fab!
When I’m tired, i use a concealer a shade lighter than my skin under my eyes, use mineralize skinfinish all over, a luminizing blush, mascara, and i dab a satin white right in the inner corners of my eyes 🙂
Ciambella says
I prime, use a bit of concealer in the inner half of the undereye area to cover darkness, sweep some sort of nude-colored, shimmery shadow on the lid, and then add the lightest touch of Stila’s “Kitten” eyeshadow in the tear duct to widen & perk up everything!
And I like your bangs, Karen!
Jennifer A. says
I don’t get undereye circles, so I just go with the got-less-sleep look and make it “pretty”. I use L’Oréal Paris HiP Cream Shadow Paint in Commanding and smudge it on my lid up to my crease and a little on the outer corners under my eye, going for that Emily Deschanel pretty red-eye look, haha. Then I just put on some mascara – I don’t care if it’s a little messy – it’s part of the look, and I’m done! It sounds a little sloppy, but it actually comes out looking really nice, like I’m so busy I don’t manage to get any sleep, but I’m so pretty I still look great anyway.
Kypris says
Karen, I love your new haircut! You look gorgeous!
When I’m tired… I like to use a little white or a light colour wash on my eyelids, a bit of liner and some eye-opening mascara (i.e. looking for length and curl, not so much thickness). I don’t really have an under-eye concealer… so for now I just deal with the bags, since I used to not get them (those were the days…) and I haven’t really had a chance to think about it recently!
Rae says
Aww man, I NEVER get enough sleep. TimeBalm concealer topped with Boots No. 7 illuminating concealer, then crimped lashes and mascara (if I have time.) I know I should do a lot more to wake up my face, but I figure the extra ten minutes of sleep are worth it!
OH! And blush. Definitely blush — I’m pretty sure the last time Ieft home without it was over two years ago :/ I’m a major blush addict, I know!!
Loving the hair, btw. That cut looks super cute on you. Does your head feel… lighter? (I always feel like my head is lighter for a few days after I chop off more than two inches. It’s such a difference!)

Hi Karen! I LOVE NARS!!
Umm what I do to make me look refreshed is…
I use a light shimmery champagne color on my lid and around my inner corner then I use a bronzy color on my crease and for the outer corner or V I love using NARS Mekong shadow. Then I use NARS Albatross to highlight under my eyes bridge of my nose and above my jaw line. I would love to own this NARS duo =)

Wow, Karen, your hair looks super cute!! Love it!
I use lots of concealer when I look tired, and then eyeliner. No matter what, I look more awake with eyeliner, especially along the lower lash line. Blush helps too, since I get even more pale (if that’s possible) when I’m sleep deprived.
Step says
I use yellow toned powder to cover up my circles, normal foundation with highlighters, shimmery lighter eyeshadows to bring lots of glow to my eyes and make them look bigger and more awake. I feel all bright like the sun, but I probably still need the coffee.

dire says
cheap-o neutrogena mineral concealer (actually, i got the wrong shade, but it blends pretty well), purminerals foundation, bronzer, brown eyeliner & a white-peach eyeshadow to brighten my eyelids. i need a better concealer though!

Hey karen! what i usually do when i look so tired and have to put make up on to make me look more alive is, i first put on my make up forever hd powder all over my face to give me a clearer and smooth surface on my face, then i conceal all of my inperfections and dark circles under my eyes using e.l.f. conceal pencil and brush , after that i put on a natural looking eyeshadow and apply 2 coats of black mascara and then rim my water line with stila kajal eyeliner in topaz. sweep on some blush and thats basically it! makes me look like i got all my beauty sleep the night before when i really didnt haha!
Heidi says
MAC Femme-Fi in the inner corner of my eyes,

Btw, I absolutely love Finn from Glee! Puck isn’t to bad to look at either 🙂
MajinMitsukai says
When it looks like I haven’t gotten enough sleep (which is almost always) I double up on my concealers for under eye. I use an NW shade of liquid concealer, then I use my usual NC 15 studio sculpt. Then set the whole mess with Mineralize skinfinish natural because it reflects light put on with a small brush. I have -really- bad dark circles especially on low sleep so this really helps. For eyeshadows I try to keep it simple with a shimmery light shade (like mac shroom) all over the lid and a little soft brown in the crease, white eyeliner in the waterline and lots and lots of mascara that’ll hold an eyelash curl 🙂
Janelle says
When I look like I didn’t get enough sleep the previous night, I wear my glasses (instead of my contacts). I find that my glasses mask my eyes/face more, so I tend to wear them on my lazy-makeup days. I also put a pink, rosy color on the apples of my cheeks!
Jessica Lynn says
honestly, i don’t get enough sleep regularly! i just do my makeup as usual, but if i look particularly haggard, i’ll put on some extra concealer in a lighter color under my eyes and make sure i do my eyeshadow perfectly do distract from underneath. and if all else fails, at least i look like a cullen vampire with bruises under my eyes 🙂
Carolyn says

i conceal my dark circles with clinique’s airbrush concealer and even out my lids with mac prep+prime. Also, brighten up the face with a hint of pink blush on the cheeks.

I have to count on the cold tea bag trick for puffy eye treatment, and lots of concealer, I guess. It’s hard to hide
Karen4 says
Hey Karen! Your new ‘do is fabulous! Looks great! When I’m not so well rested, I use tinted moisturizer for a dewy look, a pop of creamy pink blush on the apples, a golden beige shadow on the lids with a little shimmer (MAC’s summer neutral or BB shimmer taupe are faves), chocolate liner really close to the upper lashes only, and masacara on top lashes with just a sweep on the bottom. Concealer (Nars Custard or Benefit Erase Paste) goes on last along with a light sweep of Smashbox Halo powder or Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil.
Allie says
I keep it simple. A light sweep of a couple neutral colors (I like the Nars Madrague duo), a ton of mascara, and my dark circles cocktail–peach corrector, MAC select coverup, and foundation.
Katy says
Cold spoons, loads of concealer, and extra mascara on the top lashes
Sarah says
I almost always look tired, a by product of always being tired, and so I’ve started putting a bit of lancome concealer under my eyes (its subtle enough that I just have to rub it in and be done) and Kat Von D liquid eyeliner, a bit of Urban Decay eyeliner in Zero on the waterline, and lots of black mascara. If I have more time I’ll put a MAC smudge thing in Painterly (I’m horrible with names) on my lids just to brighten them a bit. And MAC blush, in a peach tone.
Also, I love the new hair! I can’t wait to see it in more detail in a FOTD! And Glee is pretty much amazing. Weird, but amazing!
Kelly says
I start my chugging a whole load of water. Then I extra moisturize and line my eyes with sonia k’s indigo liner curl the eyelashes mascara’ize and pop a little shimmer gold on the corners of the eyes. Finally, a swipe of red lips to brighten. Head out and pray for a nap @lunch!!!

First, I do my normal face steps (cleanse, tonify, moisturize) and then I apply my “mac fast response eye cream”, with this, I look way more awake. Then I go for concealer, highlighter starting from below my eyebrows to my cheeks and then a flushy blush that gives a more naturally beautiful look. hahaha all about makeup! 😀

what you do with your makeup when you look like you didn’t get enough sleep:
I hydrate my skin and under my eye area… I conceal everything. Use light colors on my eyes, eyeliner on my upper lashline if I am in the mood and if I have time. I avoid shimmer eyeshadows and pencil on my lower lashline and put on my lips a very bright lipstick !
Oh and I curl my lashes to open my eyes…

When I look like I didn’t get enough sleep, I use an iluminating concealer and pink blush high on the cheekbones – looks like I’m ready for anything that might come my way, even when all I want to do is crawl back into bed!
Chelsea says
I use Nars blush in Deep Throat, and shimmery beiges on my lids.
kirsty says
I don’t do anything with my makeup, I just go back to bed 😉
Sarah says
Your hair looks fantastic! It looks like it has lots of swing and verve! And your bangs are fabulous!
When I don’t get enough sleep, I pile on MAC’s Nanogold for some brightening, then line my upperwaterline and put on extra mascara. And then go extra dark with my lipstick so that maybe my droopy red eyes are a little less noticeable.
Amber says
Honestly, I don’t really do anything. Just make sure I have on lots of concealer!
Cute do by the way!
Michelle Mattingly says
When I look tired (um, like everyday!) I like to line my eyes with a very light eyeliner- usually in a nude or beige color. I use a shimmery pink-purple on the lid and a nice highlight on the brow…I also put concealer on the circles and I only use mascara on the top lashes. This brings attention to the top of my eye…not the gross blackholes under them!
You the best, love the hair!

When I look like I dont get enough sleep, I will wash my face with very cold water then I put moisturizer & Mac select moisture cover concealer in NW20 under my eyes. For my lids, I usually put shimmery eye shadows like MAC honey lust and satin taupe in the crease and outer corner.

I love the new hair cut & I am too am in love w/ Glee!!!!
Usually when I look tired it means I don’t have a lot of time! So my go to’s are always MAC’s Milk pigment from the Hello kitty collection. I work for Lush cosmetics so I always turn to my Enchanted Eye Cream (helps w/ bags!!!) then I apply Boing from benefit (miracle worker.) & I can’t walk outside the house w/o mascara so I put on some lash blash from covergirl 🙂
Hope you have a good weekend!!
LauraJ says
I use a little blush for eyeshadow & put on tons of mascara. I try to skip the eyeliner if I look super tired because it just seems to accentuate the sleepy look
tousledkitten says
I cleanse and moisturise my skin well and allow the moisturiser to soak in before applying any make-up. I then apply a skin primer all over my face. I then blend a concealer slightly lighter than my skin-tone very well under my eyes, not using very much product to avoid it looking caked or obvious. I then apply powder all over my face to set the concealer and even out my skin-tone, blending well to avoid looking powdery. I then prime my eye-lids and put a light, peachy shade all over the lids to hide any discolouration and brighten up my eyes. I then apply a white eye-liner to my waterline to make my eyes look more awake. I then apply black mascara, usually waterproof if I’m all sleepy! I prime my lips with a moisturising treatment or lip balm and then put a pretty pink colour on them, gloss is quick and easy. I then apply a pretty pink blusher to my cheekbones, blending it up through my temples. This seems to make my face look much more awake and cheerful. If I have time I then blend a neutral colour into the crease of my eye, such as a soft matte brown, to make my eyes stand out a bit more.

Hey Karen!
First off, LOVE the bangs! They look soo cute on you! As far as my no-sleep make up wear, today would be a prime example. I was up all night (literally) working on a huge paper for one of my classes. Finished at around 6:30 am this morning so I was definitely frazzled! I usually try to wash my face with a scrubbing facial wash so it’ll clear up my skin and make me look more alert (at least that’s what I like to think :D) , I’ll then put on concealer underneath my eyes, especially in the corners… I curl my lashes with my Sonia Kashuk curler (super inexpensive and AWESOME curl!) and then I’ll just put on a few coats of any mascara. Maybe a little pinkish blush, if I have the time .. If not some lipgloss and I am out the door!
tar.gzip says
When I look like I haven’t got enough sleep it is usually true, so I end up going the easier route: grab a neutral, *slightly* pearly beige eyeshadow (around one or 2 shades lighter than my complexion), pat it on my eyelids, my tearducts and a bit (light hand is important) under the lower eyelashes. Then I grab my most natural-looking mascara and give a bit of a boost to my lashes.
If I’m awake enough, I go a longer route: concealer, beige eyeshadow like described above and a dab pearly white just near the tearducts to give more light.
What I always do is grab a pair of pretty earrings, pretty hairpins and a colourful scarf. Distraction is the name of the game 🙂
ann marie says
I def. look like I didn’t get enough sleep last night….because i DIDN’T. Ugh. So I use my 24/7 FREEZE and GO cream.

I figure why mask it and just go ahead and do a heavy lidded smudgy look and pretend I am a silent movie star : )
alice says
No amount of eye shadow can make me look rested. It just highlights my puffy lids. Highlighter above cheekbone, and under the brow bone, followed by a neutral blush helps. If I use bright blush I just look colored and tired. Afterwards, it’s just gallons of water, followed by gallons of coffee.
Kristin says
I always count on MAC Untitled Paint, BB Tinted Eye Brightener, MAC Beguile Brow Set, Mally Eye Light Setting Powder, and CG Lash Exact. Sounds like a lot, but always works to make me look bright-eyed!

im still trying to figure that out, i try concealer but i have puffiness that doesnt go away…can it be the ramen i eat for lunch every day? maybe too much salt… either way i put on concealer and the crepiness under my eyes looks worse than before! help!

OMG karen! you cut your beautiful hair! it looks great now, but I loved your old look (I use the term “old” loosely!)
When I’m exhausted & running short on my beauty routine (well, as a busy student this is every other day), I make sure to clean my face very well & just spot concealer on my face (heavy face makeup tends to grease up when I’m stressed/tired), add a bit of brown eyeliner to the bottom of my eye lids, add a good amount of rosy blush and spend an extra 45 seconds on curling my eyelashes & putting on mascara to make me look awake!! i finish this quick beauty look with a pink gloss! I’m not calling it a ‘flawless’ look by any means, but it makes me look semi-decent in 5 minutes 🙂
GeriBerry says
Highlighting my brow bone and inner eye with Benefit’s Eye Bright or the lightest color eyeshadow I can reach really opens up the eyes, and applying under eye concealer for my dark circles, of course. I’m at the last few drops of my Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting concealer, which works pretty well on me. I’m not sure if I want to buy another one or search for a new brand. If I am awake enough I’ll add a wash of shimmery peach eyeshadow to the mix. Curled lashes and a couple coats of mascara too… but I’m usually too sleepy to bother hehe 🙂

Hi Karen, I love the new haircut – very cute! When I feel I haven’t gotten enough sleep I use white eyeliner on my bottom waterline, then I skip any dark eyeliner on top and use Stila’s kitten for shadow, followed by mascara. I also make sure my skin is flawless and then use pink blush to really give me a flushed look. I do have very pale skin though so it works for me.

I use MAC’s fast response eye cream, then swipe their eyeliner in Buttery along the bottom waterline. Since I’m a woman of color, the off-white, creamy color of buttery works better than a stark white liner.

Hi Karen,
I like to pat Benefit’s Birthday suit on my lids – pat UD’s Chopper on top of that – MAC’s Soba in my crease. High light with UD’s Polyester Bride. Line my upper lash line with black fluid line oh and line my lower waterline with UD’s Underground – curl lashes and load up with MAC’s Plushlash in Black. If I’m really tired looking then I bust out the Studiofix concealer in NC42.
Face:
I brighten up with a pink like BB’s Peony or Nars Lolokoum (like a hybrid of a rose with gold shimmer)
Lips:
I reach for a bold color to distract from any under eye circles with Nars Flair (like a metallic strawberry) and NARS Greek Holiday gloss on top.
If all else fails: COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE!!!

The key for me to looking alive, and awake is a swirl of dolly-pink blush, like Dior Rose Dragee, and some black gel liner on top lids, and I’m ready to go.

Then, I like to use a lengthening mascara to really make my lashes pop and make me look awake!

I’ve been using my trick a lot as my life is very hectic! Full time job and fiance who has a chronic illness make me get maybe 5 hours of sleep a night! ugh! I actually use white eyeliner and eye shadow. It really makes your eyes look wider and brighter. I also make sure to use some around my tear ducts. Even my fiance who knows nothing about makeup was like, ‘wow, you look so bright eyed and awake!” I also make sure to use Covergirl exact eyelights mascara because it brings out my brown eyes. This trick works every single time!

When I don’t get enough sleep, I brighten my eyes by drinking a lot of water and then use Smashbox’s under eye brightener and Visine…if it’s really bad, I will steep some tea with caffeine, then pop it in the freezer a bit and place on my eyes for 10mins (or if I don’t have tea, I use two stainless steel spoons and freeze them, then place them on eye area for 10mins (eyes closed for both procedures of course). Then when applying makeup, I don’t use bright light colors because they bring out the redness in my eyes, I use smokey colors from my lash line just up to the crease, and white eyeliner in water line. Does wonders!

I dab a bright highlighter in the inside corners of my eyes and put some Benefit Powderphlage under my eyes ot brighten that up too!
Kerry says
So I pretty much look like this every day 🙁
1. I use a cheap brightening cream (pretty much like MACs strobe cream) under my mineral foundation.
2. Concealer mixed with eye cream on my dark circles.
3. Bright coloured blush.
4. Light coloured shimmery eye shadow in the inner corners of the eyes and on the brow bone.

I normally use Bare Study PP all over my lid to brighten up my eyes. I use a beigy pink eyeshadow over it and darken the crease with a mid-tone brown. I try to keep it very neutral! Then I use an illuminating concealer, black or brown mascara for my lashes and there I go. Of course I brush my brows but I don’t fill them in.
To complete the look I use a pinky blush, then Benefit’s High Beam as a highlighter and a pink lipstick! Oh yeah!
xtina says
I pat on my concealer! It’s in my winter shade, so it’s a few shades lighter. Does wonders for me 🙂 Then I pat on some powder and I’m good to go!

Water and shimmery white cream e/s in the inner corners of my eyes 🙂
Shefali says
Hey Karen!! To combat looking like I haven’t slept, I use Bobbi Brown’s concealer (my HG concealer) under eyes, then Benefit’s Creaseless Cream shadow in Birthday Suit all over lids. I use MAC’s Orpheus liner under my eyes and black mascara. Works like a charm!
T says
No makeup used. I just put a bag over my head or hibernate in my house until I get my much needed beauty sleep. 🙂
Elizabeth says
After a rough night, I will either use a light blue (almost white) eyeliner on the inner eyelash below my eyes or put on some bronzer to get some life in me! I had to do the bronzer today, as I did not sleep much last night, boo.
Monica says
I definitely use more eye cream and concealer on mornings when I feel wiped out, and then I typically choose a gentle beige type of shadow and lots and lots of black mascara.
Danielle says
When I don’t get enough sleep, I make sure to apply Benefit’s Moon Beam on the inside corners of my eye and on the brow bone so I look alert and awake!
Shiny says
I use Revlon Skinlights under my eyes along with concealer (right now using a sample of Mac Studio Fix) for double duty. Also I always use blush since it wakes up my whole face!

Great giveaway! I make sure to use plenty of shimmery white/cream shadow on the inside corners of my eyes (my fave? the white part of Bobbi Brown’s shimmer brick in Bronze) and under the brows, and brown eyeliner that extends out and up a bit from the corners. And, of course, plenty of concealer! 🙂

If I have puffiness, I wrap two ice cubes in a damp dishtowel and hold it on my undereyes for about a minute to get the swelling down. Also, peach eyeliner on my waterline (white is too harsh for me!) and champagne eyeshadow!
Jenny says
I would conceal any imperfections, under eye bags, etc. Then I would use a brighter, vibrant off white frosty color to brighten the inner corners of my tear ducts & 2/3 of the lids. Then would contrast the depths of the outer V with a darker shade of my liking that day depending on mood. Follow by eyeliner, mascara, maybe simple falsies would wake up the eye a bit 🙂 Bronze up the face a bit, highlight here and there, shape the brows, and all the other face routine you may desire. All done! 😉
Basak says
Hi Karen! Thank you for the “good luck” in Turkish 🙂 I start with Laura Mercier’s Secret camouflage under my eyes. I then use Rubenesque paint pot on my lids and top it with with Stila Kitten on the inside corners, a darker brown at the outer corners and blend the crease by Soft Brown. Smudged brown kohl pencil as eyeliner. Then a peach blush and bronzer. I also try not being grumpy 🙂
Shannon says
I rarely have bad dark circles, but when I do, I’ll use a little bit of foundation that’s just a *bit* too orange for normal use. The slight orangey color combats the purple under my eyes, and makes me look like I got a full night’s sleep, lol. 🙂
Lisa says
I use a light cream-colored eyeshadow (matte or shimmery) in the inner corner and browbone.
Jule says
I use Benefit Erase Paste under my eyes – then I put Bare Escentuals Well-rested around my tear-ducts and a little under the eyes – I also put a light brushing of NYX highlighter under the the middle of my eyes and a little down the cheeks
Olivia says
I layer on the concealer, skip any harsh liner (though sometimes I pop Urban Decay in Yeyo on my waterline), add a shimmer light neutral on my lid (I love All that Glitters), and mascara on the top lashes only. Ta Da!
Heather T. says
Peach eyeliner, and white eyeshadow on lid and perhaps a brownish color in the crease (if i didn’t get enough sleep i am assuming there isnt much time to prep)
janine says
Oh my gosh, all these lovely ladies have such great tips! I definitely curl my lashes and put on bronzer, I have an unused white liner from ELF (for maybe 1.5 years!) and I may open the seal and try it (hopefully it hasn’t dried out…)

After a late night out, my three step go to makeup fix is 1) detox my face with icy cold water and Clearasil Ultra Scrub, 2) banishing any sallowness with a bit of foundation and loads of Nars’ “Deep Throat” blush, and finally 3) curling my lashes and swiping on some Diorshow. Somehow simply applying mascara always perks me up!
Sally says
When I didn’t get enough sleep, I use Painterly PP all over my lid, like normal, but then I also sweep a thin line under my bottom lash line. Then, I use Benefit’s Eye Bright pencil. It works wonders!
Then, I drink two large coffees! :]
Diane says
When i don’t enough sleep, i use one of thebalm concealer to conceal the under eye so that i look more awake.

I put some white eyeliner near the duct area and smudge it in — then pat a shadow like MAC Vanilla over it — instantly gives tired eyes a brighter look!
Toni says
When I don’t get enough sleep, I use my highlighting shadow all over the lid with a medium shadow in the crease (using a very light touch). I put on one coat of mascara and skip the eye liner. I try to put a little more color on my lips and cheeks to de-emphasize my dark circles and bloodshot eyes!
Monika says
I wear any bright colored eyeshadow’s to make my eyes pop since i really want to just fall asleep all over the keyboard. Add concealer underneath my eyelids and a colored eyeliner instead of black. I may not feel awake but at least Ill look as though I am
Breanna says
i add a little foundation under my eyes
Lauren says
Hey Karen! I love your new hair do’! Thanks for the giveway!
When I dont get enough sleep (it happens a lot) I first wash my face with clinique 3 step skin care system (which i love!), then i let the moisturizer kick in. after that i prime my face with smashbox photo finish, and stipple in my mac studio fix fluid for a face that doesnt look all red. then i conceaal my dark circles with cover blend (which brightes my eyes up so much) then i use a white eyeliner on my waterline, usually nyx pencil in white (it is so smooth). after that i prime my eyes with urban decay primer potion. then put mac paint pot in rubenesque. then on the lid i put on mac honey lust, then put on a darker color toards the outer V, usually amber lights by mac, and in the crease, a dark bronze color, usually macs bronze. then i put a shimmery white/ champane color in my inner tear ducts and browbone to brighten my eyes up. then i put on mac fluid line in black track on my upper lashline, and mac kohl pwer eyeliner in feline on my tight line (sometimes). then use estee lauders eyebrow pencil to fill in my brows! Then finish it off with ysl golden gloss, and nars orgasm on my cheaks! it brightens my face up a whole lot! 🙂
Vickie says
When I look like I didn’t get enough sleep, I sweep MAC’s Fairylite (or Naked) pigment on my lid up to my brow bone, and sweep some Soft Brown in the crease. I follow with Rimmel’s Sexy Curves mascara for a nice, bright, awake-looking eye. I also try to put on a thin, even layer of foundation, just so my skin looks nice and fresh. Takes me about three minutes!!

Wendy says
I generally try to keep my eye makeup in lighter colors and I will skip eyeliner and just use mascara. Also, I will use an under eye concealer and eye brightener on any dark circles that developed overnight to help cover them. Usually, before all of this, I will use one of my face cleansers that has the tingle thing going on, just to help me wake up!

Concealer under my eyes, then Benefit’s Eye Bright in the corner of my eyes, and on my water line. I don’t use white eyeliner because stark white doesn’t work for me, I look alien 🙁 Then MAC Painterly on the entire eyelid up to brow bone, and a wash of light shimmery color. Curl my lashes two coat of mascara, a bright pink blush to warm up my face, and lip balm.
Natalia says
I touch it up a bit more with concealer and highlight my inner corners with a light colored shadow AND I also apply a nude eyeliner to my waterline to make my eyes pop up even more, instead of white so it looks a lot more natural.
Tay says
White eyeliner on the water line, white eyeshadow around the tear duct, and shimmery neutrals on the lid. Boots no. 7 concealer pen also does the trick for dark circles!

When I don’t get enough sleep, concealer is my best friend! To cover those nasty dark circles, I use MAC Studio Finish Concealer (melted a bit with a blow dryer to make application easier). Then set it with a brightening powder or a matte white-ish colored eyeshadow like MAC’s Blanc Type (actually that is a Matte²).
Sarah V says
I tend to go lighter on the makeup, especially since my eyes are irritated when I don’t get enough sleep. Mostly I do some champagne colored eyeshadow and a little mascara. It makes me look much more alive.
Thais says
If I don’t get enough sleep, I feel like the simpler and cleaner my eye make up is, the better. So I just put a bit of Stila Kitten smudge pot on the lid, and that is it. But what REALLY helps me look fresh and awake is to make my lashes all curly, long and flirty. I have super straight lashes (I mean, flat iron- straight eyelashes!!!!) so my magic potion is to curl them right at the base and then apply a coat of Shiseido Lasting Lift mascara. This is the one and only mascara that holds the curl on my lashes without a primer, and it also makes the lashes long and well defined. LOVE IT.
Susie Guttman says
Three words … Benefit Eye Bright!!!
Gracie says
I put some concealer on, then use MAC Rubenesque paint pot which will also cancel out some gross puffiness. Then I use a light shimmery champagne color on the lids, and i CURL MY EYELASHES! I can’t tell you how much that helps, it just makes me look so much more awake. Mascara finishes it off. Actually, this is basically what I do everyday….hmm I’m always tired, so that explains it! 😀
kelly says
I use a good undereye concealer and also use stila eye kajal liner in topaz to line the waterline and inner cornors. Thanks for the contest!

I use a lots of de-puffing hydrating concealer, a double coat of concealer (a salmon and a natural one), a lemony-coloured concealer on my lids (not only my undereye araea, but my whole lid is darker when I don’t sleep enough) and use a ligh-coloured shadow on my lids, a little contour and mascara. And I also use a light, popping blusher, my mother always sais that my face tend to turn’greenish and pale and I look a little like a zombie. 🙂

I always look like I didn’t get enough sleep even if I slept for 10 hours because I have permanent dark circles.. so I dont do anything special other than using concealer under my eyes and using a good blush for a healthy glow. That draws the attention away from my eyes, i hope!
pinksoysauce says
Your new hair is awesome! I want to do something dramatic, maybe like getting bangs. I’ve never had bangs. 🙂
When I don’t get enough sleep (which is often; oh, the joy of being an IB student!), I use a skin-toned eyeshadow with shimmer, which brightens up my eyes considerably. If I have puffy eyes, usually I wear glasses to hide them, since I don’t want to sacrifice sleep to look like I didn’t sleep lol. 🙂 The rest of my face is usually okay to go natural with, but if I look particularly icky, I use a bit of Benefit’s BadGal brightening face primer in problem areas with some Bareminerals on top.
J says
I pile on a tonne of salmon/peach coloured concealer under the eye, and on the inner corner/sides of the bridge of my nose, and then apply a wash of a light shimmery eyeshadow all over the lid, and a little on the tearduct/inner corner. Then I apply white liner to the waterline. And of course curl lashes and add mascara! :O
For cheeks I make sure to apply a nice peachy pink blush that makes me look healthy, and a similarly coloured gloss 😀

I use my concealer and cream foundation to cover any circles or blemishes then use a pasty white cream shadow to highlight the ball of my eyes and my browbone. I also hilight the area right about the eyebrows. It helps give depth because my face is sort of flat (ahaha…) and putting on too much concealer and foundation makes my face looks 2-D because you can’t see any shadows. :]
Apple says
I wear Benefit’s Bright Eyes to make my eyes look all sparkly even without sleep. 🙂

Concealer is a definite must! When I am  super dead tired, my undereye circles become even more pronounced than ever so I spackle on that concealer! I use an all over wash of the eyeshadow Sahara from the Sephora natural palette, curl my eyelashes, and give it a good lashing of Cover Girl LashBlast. Lastly, a pop of Urban Decay Quickie blush to give me that pop of ‘oh! I am SO TOTALLY AWAKE’ colour and voilà ! I am awake, or so you may think.

I never get enough sleep! 🙂 I swear by Benefit’s Eye Bright. I use it on my waterline and on the brow bone, make sure to do my brows with Smashbox brow tech, wear mascara, and use Benefit creaseless cream shadow in Recess. Definitely great ways to fake a good night’s sleep!

I like using an NW shade to conceal undereye circles on a bad day because I’m probably not in the mood to touch up on it every couple of hours. An NW shade manages to conceal until it fades unlike an NC which can start looking cakey if you don’t maintain it. I also like using a lengthening mascara instead of a voluminizing one.

I curl my lashes and apply mascara to open up my eyes and give the appearance of bigger and brighter eyes.

When I’m tired (which is all the time, as I have 2 jobs right now), I use Patricia Wexler’s eye de-puff gel – it really gets rid of the puffy eyes fast. Wow, this post sure did rack up a lot of comments! Lol. Unfortunately, I *ALWAYS* look like I didn’t get enough sleep. Whether I get 2 hours or 12 hours of sleep, I have some mean looking dark circles under my eyes. I use the MAC eye cream & the little tube of concealer from MAC under my eyes. Then I use a pretty shimmer on my lids with a light, neutral brown in the crease. I still look a little sleepy, but it’s better than my Zombie eyes I was naturally cursed with..
I am going to have to try that Origins GinZing eyecream soon to see if it helps me out any.

I don’t use eye cream because my lids are oily 🙁
What I do is brush my brows, curl my lashes, highlight under brow bone, inner corners, and top of cheeks (even though it makes me look oily then I already am :P), put a coat of mascara on, sometimes I’ll put eyeliner, put a little blush on, then use a tinted lip balm 🙂

This way I avoid any potential flakes or over the day smudgy-ness that might settle into under eye circles, plus the line is so clean and dramatic that one focuses more on the top part of my eyes than my tell-tale puffy under eye. Finally, I use LashBlast in sparkly navy blue mostly on upper lashes to keep the focus on the top part of my eye, and the blue helps keeps my eyes looking bright ! To finish the look I put on peachy blush and either go with naked lips or just chapstick to go for an over all fresh, easy going look.

When I am lacking on sleep I usually use a light gold eyeshadow with a bronze eyeliner. I avoid dark colored eyeshadow or eyeliner to keep my eyes from looking too heavy.

Usually I do something with a little glimmer to put the focus on my skin., and keep the eye makeup rather minimal so I don’t draw attention to the bags.Chugging endless cups of coffee also helps.

Anything light and shimmery like kitten eyeshadow or golds! Really brightens the eyes. But first, I start out with the Garnier caffeine roll on for the eyes, it eliminates excess puffiness.

I brighten my dark circles with MAC select cover up (not amazing tho), and also throw some concealor all over my eyelids, which makes a HUGE difference. Then, I place a pinky shimmery color all over the lid, highlight my browbone, and pile on the mascara. A pretty gloss and baby pink cheek color also takes attention away from my dark circles.
