Dear Insomnia,
I think we need a break… Our relationship isn’t working. I’m just not that into you.
Love,
MBB
My mom always says to look on the bright side, so looking at things that way, the fact that I couldn’t fall asleep last night was a good thing, because it allowed me to finally watch the new episode of Southland (one of the best shows on TV!!).
While watching it I realized that 1) if I ever meet Ben Mckenzie in real life, there better be a fainting couch nearby because I’d probably swoon, and 2) he’s on twitter, which gives me another place to follow him.
Another silver lining to last night’s insomnia? It gave me extra motivation to do a bright, glowing makeup look today with golds, tans and corals — some of my favorite colors these days. 🙂
Two new products play starring roles in this look — the brown, coral and gold eye shadows from the “Classic” row in the new Summer Eyes Palette from Too Faced and the coral NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Lodhi. And on my cheeks, that’s good ol’ Chanel Frivole.
By the way, if you were thinking that the Summer Eye Palette looked familiar, then good eye! The same palette was released last year but on a very small scale. Too Faced decided to re-release it this year with a new shade (Seashell, instead of last year’s Sugar Sand) to let fans who missed it get their paws on it now.
What did you do for your makeup today? Did you take it easy or go all out?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Hope you had a great day today. What’s been the highlight so far? 🙂
Paris B says
Your latest photos are stunning, Karen! You’re looking absolutely lovely and I thought the palette looks nice. Do you reckon its worth getting? I’ve never really tried anything from Too Faced 🙂
Karen says
Hi Paris,
I have been really enjoying their stuff lately. Some of the palettes can be just okay, but I’ve run into a few in the past couple of seasons that I really like. I just started wearing this one and so far I like it. The browns keep it grounded and not too crazy. I do notice that if I’m having a very long day (like 14+ hours), that the shadows tend to settle in after about 8-9 hours, which might be something to think about if you want really, REALLY long wear.
Agata says
You look so pretty Karen. I love this palette, I have had it since last year and it’s one of my favorites. And the lip color is super pretty too.
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I have the rest of NARS lip swatches coming soon. 🙂 I finally had the chance to do them, yay!
What makeup did you wear today?
Agata says
Yay for the Nars lip review, gorgeous colors. Today was a no make up day 🙂 Yesterday (or Wed now) I was only going to Zumba class so I wore light make up- a BB cream with some matifying powder, for eyes I wore Bare Minerals The Next Big Thing quad from the spring collection and some bronzer to contour my cheeks with a dab of Tarte Glisten on the apples of my cheeks.
Katherine G says
You look amazing! I haven’t done anything with makeup in a little while besides just BB or CC cream and bronzer/illuminating powder. The highlight of my day was a successful 3 mile tempo run in preparation for the Half Marathon I signed up for in May, a successful power lifting session after and a successful kickboxing class tonight.
Karen says
GURL, you go! I ran a half marathon once and afterward decided that it was never gonna happen again unless I was chased by zombies. Don’t forget the body glide, and mentally prepare yourself for mile 10 now (that’s when I had my nervous breakdown!).
What areas did you do lifts for today? I miss doing bench, le sigh…
Kprice says
Wow that is pretty on you. I wasn’t that interested in the palette but now it looks more wearable than I thought. I just got the new Benefit shadow in Rain Check and am trying it out today.
Karen says
Thanks, Kprice. There’s three brown shades in there that really help to keep it very wearable. Even the coral’s not too crazy!
Ooh, you have to let me know what you think about Rain Check. 🙂
Jennifer L says
perfect summer look!
Windie says
Your photos as of late are inspiring me!
Minsooky says
This looks lovely on you. 🙂
Chelsea says
Love this whole look! I did some contouring on my face today (using a cream foundation in a dark shade and a taupe blush) and highlighting (with my Missha blusher that’s kind of a Meteorites-esque product). I couldn’t do anything to my eyes really, one of them is swollen up from allergies. Sucks, but that means spring is coming! :p
Brandee says
Love your whole makeup look Karen. Are you l wearing the new nars concealer in these pics? Today was a nars tinted moisturizer day topped off with hourglass dim light powder. And of course concealer, lip balm, blush, mascara, etc,etc…..minimal 😉
KhaliaNicole@GlamourandLove says
Well the insomnia is no fun BUT at least you can’t see any signs of it in your face! You look maaaahvelous dahling!
Vanessa says
Your lashes look so cute. Are you doing something different? Is it possible you are wearing some super natural falsies? 🙂
Chris says
This look is gorgeous!!
Lulle says
I had a tough start this morning so I went to work without any makeup on today :/
Just one of these days!
I love the eye look you did with this palette, natural yet sultry. Very pretty!
Alexa says
Am I the only one who’s sad that sugar sand is gone? Didn’t get it last year and that shade looked Absolutey lovey!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I wore a very similar look today with Frivole and some neutral shadows–no bright pop of coral on the lips though (though I did use Benefit’s Coralista gloss). I think that’s what my look was missing bc your look is absolute PERFECTION! This is the only convincing I needed that start wearing more pigmented lippies (and to get my hands on that Satin Lip Pencil in Lodhi STAT!)
Sunny says
Dang, I need Lodhi in my life! That and Frivole if I can still lay my hands on it!
So sorry to hear about your insomnia, Karen 🙁
Dollie says
Love the coral Nars lip pencil on you. I’ve never tried bright coral lipsticks before coz I felt they would look garish on me. But you look so gorgeous with this colour!!! Now I’m going to hunt for a similar shade coz Nars isn’t available in India 🙁
Marina(Makeup4all) says
Have to investigate about Southland 😉 And I have just discovered a show about Vikings, being a HUGE fan ( I even wrote my final work for uni about them), I will watch for sure. Hope it will not disappoint.
Vineetha says
You look gorgeouuuus Karen!
Paula says

varsha says

Ankita@corallista says
You look lovely! I love how you’ve been doing your hair lately! So casual yet glamorous!
Angela @ The Unprofessional Beauty Blog says
Love this look on you. It gives this beautiful glow to your face.
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
I can’t decide between this Too Faced palette and the eye shadow palette from the Estee Lauder Golden Goddess collection. These are So my colors! I’m really, really liking your hair these days Karen!
Jennifer says
That’s it. I need you to teach me how to do eye makeup. Stellar looks there Karen! You’re stunning! You also make me want to buy things that I don’t normally like – like anything Too Faced.
Chelsea says
I really enjoy your posts. This look is great. I hope you don’t mind but I’m going to show my hairdresser your hair color. That’s exactly what I am looking for. My hair is curly though. Lol. My question is, what primer do you use if any? I’m on the hunt. Oily t zone, sensitive and prone to hormonal breakouts. And your skin looks great here. Cheers from Vancouver!!
Chelsea says
Oh. And what I did today…CoverFX matte primer, Stila10-in-One BB, MAC Mineralize Concealer (a dark one ) to contour, Benefit Highbeam, MAC blot in medium to set, MAC Warm Soul on Cheeks, Clinique Eyebrow powder, UD Naked palette the first two colors, Maybelline black gel liner for a winged eye, NYX lip liner Vanilla Sky and NYX frosted beige lip gloss. A natural look with a bit of an Egyptian flair. Black curly hair in a high pony.
Julie says
Where are your earrings from, Karen?
Savannah says
I had to be at work early (bleh) so it was just bare study on the lid, wedge in the crease, blacktrack on upper lash line and mascara for eyes. My usual quick concealing and foundation. Nothing special. You, however look amazing! Simply glowing !
Lisa says
Love this look- gorgeous! Can you please let me know where you got your earrings- they are beautiful!
