I have been cursed with an annoying curse — oily eyelids. This basically makes it impossible for my eye shadows to look the same at the end of the day as they look when I put them on, and who wants to spend precious time blending away till your arm falls off when you know it’s just going to look like you sprayed Pam all over your eyelids a couple of hours later!
Eye shadow primers to the rescue! Too Faced Shadow Insurance is what’s on trial today.
I am so happy with this primer! It pretty much does just what it’s supposed to do, and I want to show you up close and personal.
For this test, I only applied the primer to one eye, and then I left my makeup on as long as I could stand it, which ended up being about 8 hours.
I don’t really notice a difference in how my eye shadows apply with this primer. They go on exactly the same as they do when I’m not using primer at all. Sometimes, with some primers, your shadows can go on a little smoother, or even sometimes a little chunkier, but that’s not the case with Shadow Insurance for me.
(In the Spongebob Squarepants narrator voice) 8 hours later..
On the eye with the primer, you can see that there is the teeny, tiniest amount of creasing. But overall, things have stayed where they’re supposed to be.
As you can see, when I don’t use the primer, things get nasty. My eyeshadow is all bunched up in my creases, and in some places it’s even worn away completely. Even my eyeliner and my false lashes are slipping around all over the place. It’s a hot mess.
My overall thoughts on Too Faced Shadow Insurance are that it’s great! It makes a big and obvious difference in the way my eye shadow looks after a long day, which is much appreciated. My shadows don’t look exactly the same as they do right after I apply them, but it makes a world of difference.
Do any of you have the same issue with oily eyelids that I do? What eye primer do you love?

I’m with you, Jen! I have the oiliest eyelids known to man! I’m with you on the Too Faced primer. The only other one I’ve found that works (and I’ve tried many!) is the NARS pro prime smudge-proof eyeshadow base, it’s a bit of an unsung hero in my kit!

I’ve heard a lot about the Nars one, that one is next on my list!

Ha! I was so confused with this post! Those aren´t Karen´s eyes lol. Now I get it- a guest post. I love the Too Faced Shadow Insurance and the revamp of the packaging is adorable. It´s one of my favorite eye primers for sure.

Thanks so much for this review! My eyelids are semi oily too and I find my eyeshadow creases with other primers as well. Also one of my eyes waters ‘upward’ therefore removing all shadow on the inside of my eye… I’mma try this primer now! thx again

Oily lids here, too. I do enjoy this primer as well. But my OG primer is the one by Milani. I think it performs just as well as the TF primer but the price tag is much kinder to my wallet so I stick with that one. I also always apply MAC paint in Bamboo on my mobile lid. It’s my extra layer of protection & increases the intensity of my shadows. Another HG product for me. It’s this oily girl’s BFF 🙂

I too have oily lids and without primer my shadows slide around like crazy. The Wet ‘n Wild primer works great for me. I also sometimes use a Stila primer pot which works really well too.

I’m so cursed with oily eyelids. It’s one of the main reasons I dont try very many eyeshadow options and often stick with an eyeliner. I’m actually switching from UD’s primer to the Nars eyelid primer (which I had previously) which does wonders. If this works, I’m willing to give this a try! Thanks for the review!

I have super-oily lids, too. Too Faced Shadow Insurance is my Holy Grail eyeshadow primer. Urban Decay Primer Potion works almost as well. My favorite UDPP is Enigma.

My issue with this primer is it separates in the tube. I had several tubes and it happened every time.

I’m in the oily lid club as well. Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and The Balm’s Put a Lid On It have worked well for me. I recently tried Milani’s primer and it did a good job too.

Two Faced Eye Shadow Insurance is my “go-to” product for keeping my eyeshadow AND eyebrows fixed until I am ready to remove them. I have oily skin, and if I didn’t use it for both, I would not have any makeup on my eyes or browse in a couple of hours. It’s a great product and it lasts!

This was the first eyeshadow primer that truly wowed me! But then I discovered the UD Primer Potion and found that that one worked just as well, so I started alternating the two. And in the meantime more primers have entered the rotation. I don’t think Shadow Insurance is my number one favorite anymore, but I still think it’s a pretty damn good primer, for sure.

I’m right there with you! This primer is my RIDE OR DIE!

This was my first eyeshadow primer and the only one for years. After that i wanted to try other primers but this is still my favorite. I want to try the NARS one but, unless it’ll be amazing I’ll return to the TF one.

I have very oily lids and my favorite is the UD eyeshadow primer potion, it lasts as long as I want it to (I’ve travelled for over 12 hs with it) with no creasing or any oil creeping back. When I used shadow insurance, my eye makeup lasted less time. After like 7 or 8 hours I had a lot of oil again 🙁
