These Neutrals Are Flexible: Meditations on Makeup With the $36 Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette

March 25th, 2014 by Karen 40 Comments

Too Faced Natural Eyes Neutral Eyeshadow Collection
Wearing the new Too Faced Natural Eyes Neutral Eyeshadow Collection ($36), available now at Too Faced counters and toofaced.com

Welcome! Come on in, everyone! I’m so happy to see your lovely faces this evening. Don’t be shy; we’re all friends here. Just go ahead and grab a spot on the floor — you know, stake your claim — and roll out your yoga mat. We’ll get going in a minute.

Tabs the cat: kitty supermodel, entrepreneur, yoga practitioner

For those of you new to the Makeup Meditation series here at Tabs the Cat Yoga Center (tagline: “You won’t find any downward dogs here”), don’t be nervous. This class is for all skill levels. I promise, you’ll do fine.

OK, let’s get started…

First, I want you to quiet your mind…

Good.

Now let’s get into a cross-legged position, and place today’s Makeup Meditation totem, the new Too Faced Natural Eyes Neutral Eye Shadow Collection Palette, in front of you on the floor.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Neutral Eye Shadow Collection
Focus…

Take a deeeeeeeep breath in, now exhale slowly. OMMMMMMMM…

Perfect.

Extend your arms out to your sides — hold it, hold it, hold it. Now slowly reach forward, taking your Natural Eyes Palette up in your hands, and open it. Fix your gaze upon the nine pans of powder eyeshadow inside.

Let a sense of calm wash over you, and focus your every thought on its mix of matte and shimmery finishes.

Ahhhhh…

Notice the beige, brown, taupe, gold and peach shades. See how they’re laid out horizontally for day, classic and fashion looks?

Take another deep breath, and as you exhale slowly, open your makeup-loving third eye, and visualize the limitless number of neutral looks you’ll be able to do. Allow your mind to transcend to a higher makeup mental plane. Consider that all nine of these shadows pack potent pigments while exhibiting an infinitesimal amount of fallout.

Picture yourself contouring and lining your eyes with the matte shades (beige Heaven, grayish brown Cashmere Bunny, dark brown Sexpresso and golden brown Nudie).

Now, see the shimmery shades (peachy beige Silk Teddy, golden tan Push-Up, dark brown Erotica, golden Honey Pot and reddish brown Chocolate Martini) glimmering on your lids…

Can you see the glitter?

That’s good. There’s just enough to make a statement, but not so much that you couldn’t wear the palette to the office.

Let’s pause here for a moment. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale…

Ahhhhh…

Further meditations on the new Too Faced Natural Eye Palette

  • An update on the original Natural Eye Collection Palette, this one trades the cardboard packaging for a sturdier travel-friendly tin.

Too Faced also swapped out three of the old shades (matte light grayish brown Velvet Revolver, shimmery peach Nude Beach and shimmery golden brown Cocoa Puff) for three new ones (dark matte gray brown Cashmere Bunny, matte golden brown Nude and shimmery golden reddish brown Chocolate Martini), which I feel are more practical for daily wear.

  • Although the O.G. kit was already wearable, I think this new one’s even more so. The shadows cling to lids like Cat Woman’s costume clings to her curves, meow! Plus, the addition of Nude, the extra matte shade, opens up the palette to a wider audience of neutral lovers, ’cause let’s face it — not everyone’s gonna want to wear shimmers 24/7.
  • If you find Urban Decay’s Naked Palette intriguing, yet intimidating, this could be a great alternative. Having the shadows pre-arranged by look takes the guesswork (and thought) out of choosing complementary shades that work well together.

Alright! That just about does it for today’s class. Thank you so much for attending. You did a great job. I hope you were able to relax for a while and unwind.

Totally digging this new Too Faced pallete, perfect ratio of matte to shimmers. Much better than the previous one you posted about although those colors are really fun but it’d be hard to create a full look with only shimmers.;)

I was wondering if it was just a repromote of the previous Natural eye palette, thanks for the details. It’s a nice selection of warm neutrals and I like the packaging upgrade!

Hmm, I’m intrigued. The original palette seems to surprisingly have become my most used palette of all time, and I’m glad they swapped out Nude Beach, but I wish they hadn’t swapped out Velvet Revolver, my most used and most useful eyeshadow of all time. That color was perfect for both my crease and eyebrows. I would have liked them to swap out Silk Teddy instead, bc IMO that color is just too frosty, there’s no way you ever need that much of it.

That being said, love the new mirror here and love that this looks thinner than the original, which is bulky.

      Hi Marissa,

I end up using it in the inner corner. I tried it all over my lids once and was like WHOA. If you like Velvet Revolver check out MAC Copperplate. πŸ™‚

I love the look you did with this Karen. It’s been calling my name ever since I swatched this palette at my local Ulta and saw how the shadows are so beautiful and silky-smooth. It’s calling out to me even more insistently since you say there’s no fallout. I wish I actually *needed* more neutral eyeshadows, lol…

I’m so glad there is such minimal fall-out! The reason I’ve shied away from TF eyeshadows in the past is because I’d wind up with glitter all over my cheeks within an hour. I’ve officially got my eye on this palette. Neutrals. Ommmmm.

i ordered this as soon as i saw it on sephora.com. The original natural eyes palette was my favorite, and this one replaced the on 2 shades i never used (velvet revolver and nude beach) with great new shades. i also like the new packaging as it is much slimmer. i much prefer it to the Naked palette. The pre-made looks are perfect to start with.

I am loving all of the new palettes Too Faced has released! I purchased the Chocolate Bar palette shortly after reading your review a couple of months ago, and I was so impressed with it! It is probably my second favorite neutral palette (my current favorite being the Stila In the Light palette).

Since I have several neutral palettes already, I’ll probably pass on this one for now, but it really looks lovely!

Also, your hair is super cute in these photos! Did you use a sea salt spray to achieve those beachy waves?
