New from the Tom Ford Summer 2014 collection: Lip Shimmers in Solar Gold (left) and Moonlight (right), $49 each

To wear whilst yacht/mansion shopping, and/or counting your gold bars, two new lipsticks from Tom Ford.

These new Lip Shimmers might be best suited for the die-hard Tom Ford Beauty fans among us, and other lovers of super sheer, glimmering $49 lipsticks.

Both sultry shades are new for summer 2014 and limited edition (including the gorgeous packaging).

Warm, glimmering Solar Gold and cool-toned frosty white Moonlight are packed with Vitamins C and E, as well as shea butter, to nourish and moisturize yo’ dry pout.

In terms of texture, fragrance and wear time, I do detect the faintest hint of vanilla when I wear these lightweight, slick, non-sticky lipsticks, but the formula only lasts about an hour on my lips.

At $49 apiece — typical prices for TF — it could be difficult to justify these.

If we were talking about an everyday staple like Sable Smoke, aka “nude lipstick perfection in a tube,” I could maybe rationalize a price like that, but for barely-there lippies like these, $49 seems like a lot.

You kind of expect something truly epic for that, ya know? — like, so epic and awesome that they knock the cat-printed Vans right off your feet.

I mean, these definitely deliver sheer, shiny, barely-there color and moisture, and they’re oozing gloriously golden style, but in terms of color and formula, I think you can find similar lippies for less.

Moonlight and Solar Gold are available now at Tom Ford counters and online.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Always love Tom Ford’s packaging, but can’t justify spending the $$$ on this product. Maybe if I could use it as a highlighter on my cheeks too? But I don’t like shimmer on my lips.

  2. Nik says:

They both look beautiful on you! Like something a gorgeous alien esque model would wear, super cool. Bummers they only last an hour, that makes them even more indulgent! Maybe if they’re layered over a long lasting matte lipstick they might perform better :D

  3. Sylirael says:

Hehe, this product is a true luxury item – beautiful, very expensive, and kind of pointless :-) I’m glad these products exist, though, because they make my other makeup purchases seem so modest!

Having said that, MAC lipsticks are $56 each here, so…

You should try a silver to gold ombre on your lips with these! I think it would look really pretty.

They’re quite pretty on the lips but hella pricey. Especially considering they don’t even last long. Boo!

I love the look of Moonlight. But I would never fork out that much money for something that lasts only an hour on the lips.
